An introduction to Yangzhou city

•Yangzhou lies in the south of Jiangsu Province, about 4 hours by car from Shanghai and 2 hours from Nanjing, near the junction of the Grand Canal and the Yangtze river

•The Grand Canal once ran for 1800 meters between Hangzhou and Beijing and due to its position on the canal, Yangzhou was an important economic and cultural center during the Sui and Tang dynasties (589-907 CE)

•Today Yangzhou still maintains many scenic spots and historic sites, the most famous of which are the Shouxi Lake scenic area, the Ge Garden, the Daming Monastery, the Guanyinshan Monastery, the Xianque Monastery, the Tianning Monastery, and the Tomb of Puhaddin
