An Introduction to Yangzhou International High School
•The Yangzhou International High School is housed on the campus of the Beijing New Oriental Foreign Language School at Yangzhou.
•The Beijing New Oriental Foreign Language School at Yangzhou was founded in 2002 with the goal of providing elite private school education that would prepare students for acceptance to top universities in China and around the world.
•Students are immersed in a combined curriculum that includes the rigor of the full Chinese curriculum complemented by a strong emphasis on English. Students also have the opportunity to take courses preparing them specifically for studying abroad for university.
•Currently, the school also has more than 60 specialty courses including oration, martial arts, gymnastics, swimming, dance, musical instruments, calligraphy, painting and pottery.
A Unique Opportunity to Teach and to Lead
•New Oriental is seeking uniquely qualified applicants for the position of “Principal-in-Training” (in Chinese 班主任 ) at the Yangzhou International High School for the 2007-2008 academic year
•In this role you will have the unique opportunity to teach top high school students from across China. You will also be a key member of the school’s leadership team, and be an influential role model to a talented and ambitious group of Chinese students
•You will also gain a new and valuable perspective on China through your daily interaction with students and fellow teachers. For those with a keen interest in an even more immersive experience, we will also facilitate optional weekend homestays with a Chinese family as well as community service activities
Job Qualifications
•Native English speaker
•Bachelor’s degree or above
•Strong organizational skills, exceptional leadership experience, and community service background. Prior teaching experience a plus
•Enthusiastic, dedicated, loving, team-oriented, flexible, and service-minded. Our teachers also pride themselves in being lots of fun and having a good sense of humor!
•No Mandarin Chinese language ability required, but a plus if you have it
•Most important of all, we are looking for committed young men and women who are looking to learn and share
Main Responsibilities
1) To deliver high quality, passionate, and professional teaching of oral English to the students of Yangzhou International High School
2) To organize extracurricular activities that will build positive character traits and leadership experience for students
3) To observe and team-teach other subject areas (Math, Sciences, Literature) as appropriate and offer formal feedback and suggestions for improvement to teaching colleagues
4) To act in a counselor capacity to students seeking to make application to universities in North America and Europe
5) To deliver lectures at other New Oriental schools introducing key aspects of the American university experience to New Oriental students

An introduction to Yangzhou city
•Yangzhou lies in the south of Jiangsu Province, about 4 hours by car from Shanghai and 2 hours from Nanjing, near the junction of the Grand Canal and the Yangtze river
•The Grand Canal once ran for 1800 meters between Hangzhou and Beijing and due to its position on the canal, Yangzhou was an important economic and cultural center during the Sui and Tang dynasties (589-907 CE)
•Today Yangzhou still maintains many scenic spots and historic sites, the most famous of which are the Shouxi Lake scenic area, the Ge Garden, the Daming Monastery, the Guanyinshan Monastery, the Xianque Monastery, the Tianning Monastery, and the Tomb of Puhaddin
•Local crafts include lacquer-ware, jade-ware, shell sculptures, embroidery, and toys

1) Salary: RMB 7,000/ mo
