DEPARTMENT OF ARCHITECTURE AND SPATIAL PLANNING
Siaya Institute of Technology (SIT) is a Public Institution managed by the National Government through the Ministry of Education.
It is located situated in Siaya town, along the Siaya-Ugunja Road on a 40-acre piece of land, just after the Siaya County Referral
Hospital. It was established in 1987 by the District Development Committee (DDC) Siaya, as a community initiative, to train
students in technical skills in areas of Masonry, Plumbing, Agriculture and Business courses.
Over the years, the Institute has had to invest in infrastructural development to meet the demands of an ever-increasing student
population, rapid technological advancement and changes in TVET subsector reforms and market trends. Some of the recent
developments include construction of more workshops/ laboratories, a library/administration block complex and equipping the
Information Communication Technology (ICT) Centre, Building and Civil Engineering Department and Applied Science
Laboratories with state of the art equipment.
The Institute offers a diverse array of courses examined by Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), Kenya Accountants and
Secretaries National Examination Board (KASNEB) and Curriculum Development Accreditation and Certification Council
( Technical Vocational Education and Training AuthorityCDACC). It also enjoys partnership with regulatory bodies like (TVETA),
Kenya National Audit Unit (KENAU), (ICPAK) and Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya Kenya Nutritionists and
Dieticians Institute (KNDI).
Plans are underway for the Introduction of Diplomas in Pharmaceutical Technology and Medical Laboratory Technology in the FY
2019/2020
As premier Institute of Technology in State Department of Vocational and Technical Training the programs offered have
significant impact contributing to the Global Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and Kenya's Vision 2030 with clear focus on
the Presidential Big four Agenda of Food Security, Affordable Housing, Manufacturing, and Universal Healthcare. The ultimate
goal of SIT is to admit and train graduates who meet global industrial standards.
Other non-academic departments such as Guidance and Counselling, Games and Sports support delivery of academic
programmes. School-based, evening and weekend programmes are available in some courses.
