No tears processTaken from tested theory by Penny Tassoni author of child development books and lecturer .

    1. Parent/Carer sits about 3 chairs away from your child and keyworker.

Parent is given a maga ine with these details! parent screens eyes and readsthe maga ine and does not have eye contact with their child and does notinterrupt but lets the key person play with the child. After a time key person asks if the child would like a sticker. If the child accepts the sticker, the child trusts the key person

". #ey person resumes play. $hen key person coughs! parent gets up and movesa couple more seats away and then after a short time gets up and moves back.

    %epeat this again.

    3. $hen key person coughs again parent gets up and says

Im going to get a sticker for you and Im coming back. Parent waits & minutes and then come back in.

'. $hen parent comes back into the room with a sticker the parent goes to thechild and say Ive got your sticker and I have come back ! comfort the

child if needed then parents sit down. (f your child is happy then we gothrough this process once more.

&. (f your child is still upset then we start from the beginning.

$e can repeat this as often as needed so that your child settles more )uickly with asless tears as possible. The aim of the process is to help your child to make a goodattachment with their key person.

Top Tips on how to protect the Personal Data you hold.

    For computer security:

Install a frewall and virus-checking on your computers. Make sure that your operating system is set up to receive automatic updates. Protect your computer by downloading the latest patches or security updates, which should cover vulnerabilities. Only allow your sta access to the in ormation they need to do their !ob and don"t let them share passwords. #ncrypt any personal in ormation held electronically that would cause damage or distress i it were lost or stolen. $ake regular back-ups o the in ormation on your computer system and keep them in a separate place so that i you lose

your computers, you don"t lose the in ormation. %ecurely remove all personal in ormation be ore disposing o old computers &by using technology or destroying the hard

disk'. (onsider installing an anti-spyware tool. %pyware is the generic name given to programs that are designed to secretly

monitor your activities on your computer. %pyware can be unwittingly installed within other fle and program downloads, andtheir use is o ten malicious. $hey can capture passwords, banking credentials and credit card details, and then relay themback to raudsters. )nti-spyware helps to monitor and protect your computer rom spyware threats, and it is o ten ree to useand update.

    For using emails securely:

(onsider whether the content o the email should be encrypted or password protected. *hen you start to type in the name o the recipient, some email so tware will suggest similar addresses you have used

be ore. I you have previously emailed several people whose name or address starts the same way - e.g. + ave - the auto-complete unction may bring up several + ave"s . Make sure you choose the right address be ore you click send.

    For using faxes securely:

(onsider whether sending the in ormation by a means other than a0 is more appropriate, such as using a courier service orsecure email. Make sure you only send the in ormation that is re1uired. 2or e0ample, i a solicitor asks you to orward astatement, send only the statement specifcally asked or, not all statements available on the fle.

Make sure you double check the a0 number you are using. It is best to dial rom a directory o previously verifed numbers. (heck that you are sending a a0 to a recipient with ade1uate security measures in place. 2or e0ample, your a0 should not

    and if not, why not.

It may be necessary for the setting to interview staff to ensure that their disclosure is fullyunderstood. $ny meeting can be arranged away from the workplace, if so wished, and arepresentative or a friend may accompany the involved member of staff for support.

If there are any difficulties e+perienced as a result of raising a concern, support will be offered.

    $ncollected child procedure

    Scenario #

If a parent/carer comes to collect a child in your care and they are obviously under theinfluence of drugs or alcohol, 8e.g. not ust smelling of alcohol, but also unsteady on feet,

  • 8/10/2019 Full Policies and procedures.doc

    28/43

slurred speech, not making sense etc.9 you should assess the risk of sending the child homewith them immediately.

Remember the welfare and safety of the child currently in your care is paramount. The risks would increase dramatically if parent was driving. )here possible, consult with a senior/colleague If you consider the child-s safety or welfare would be compromised by letting them go with this

person % advise the parent that you are going to contact the alternative carers provided on the

admissions form and do not release the child until you have secured a responsible adult tocollect them.

    Scenario !

If a child is not collected at home time and you have been unable to contact a responsibleadult to take them home despite several attempts.

:ou will need to contact both the Police and &uty ; $ssessment Team. The Police have thepower to remove the child to a safe place and a !ocial )orker needs to be informed so theycan follow up with the family why this happened.

!cenario 5 may be required if you are unable to secure a responsible adult in !cenario .

Actions to ta%e now& #nsure parents supply the contact details of at least T)* alternative carers that could collect

the child in their absence on the child-s admission form.

Review your !afeguarding "hildren Policy to ensure the actions you will take should thesecircumstances occur are clear and ensure e+isting and new parents sign to agree to them.
