ABOUT FOOD & SPIRIT™ Food & Spirit™ was founded in 2000 by nutritionist, Dr. Deanna Minich, as a way to cultivate eating as a path to personal growth. Since we encounter food and the act of eating multiple times daily, she realized that this constant interface could become a conduit of understanding one’s inner self in relationship to their environment. Dr. Minich’s approach is to bring together the spectrum of potential in the eating experience as a means to fully experience its benefits, including focusing on:
• Science and Spirituality • Information and Inspiration
• Logic and Creativity • Practicality and Poetry
• Body and Soul You will find in the Food & Spirit™ teachings a wealth of current, scientific-based nutrition information with a complement of the deeper, psychosocial aspects of eating and the symbolic meaning of foods that often goes unrecognized.
The East Indian yogic tradition has categorized the seven dynamic parts (“chakras”) of the self as: Food & Spirit™ takes these seven themes into one’s relationship with food for greater insight into deeper personal issues.
• Spirit
• Insight
• Truth
• Love
• Power
• Flow
• Root

WHY BECOME A FOOD & SPIRIT™ PRACTITIONER?
Rather than focusing on a particular diet, the Food & Spirit™ approach encompasses a system of personalization of food choices and eating behaviors to seven unique areas. Diets have long been successful, but only for the short-term. Recent studies indicate that long-term weight maintenance and prevention of chronic disease is facilitated through group settings where there is an exchange of information within the broad context of one’s life. The idea of interconnection, or the spread of social behaviors and health, is a well-studied scientific phenomenon. When we apply the interconnection framework to that of food and eating, we potentially maximize the individual’s recognition of how food choices and eating behaviors are anchored into how one lives their life. As a result, they experience the benefit in their eating in addition to growing in aspects of their personal development.

THE GRANDER VISION & DEEPER PURPOSE OF A FOOD & SPIRIT™ PRACTITIONER
The vision for Food & Spirit™ Practitioners is to be the lifestyle educators of the 21st century - to provide solutions to people who are looking for health and wellness in body, mind, and spirit. There is no other approach that connects food and eating to aspects of life in this way. The goal for the Food & Spirit™ Practitioners is to be embedded into larger matrices of healers and health professionals to serve the need of going deeper with clients on their relationship with food. This aspect is not currently addressed to an adequate extent in healthcare settings. If we can help clients to understand their relationship with food, we help them to understand and discover aspects of their inner self and outer behaviors.
We need this type of practitioner to emerge, especially in the everyday climate of overeating, rampant emotional eating, undereating, stressful eating, and mindless eating. People are bombarded by information on how to eat, yet, they haven’t been taught that what and how they eat
CONNECTS TO EVERYTHING ELSE IN THEIR LIVES.
That is why diet books fail - they give the isolated “what and how” of eating without connection to one’s body, their emotions, sense of self, ability to love and speak their truth, be intuitive, and feel united with nature.

TESTIMONIALS FROM GRADUATES OF THE CERTIFIED FOOD & SPIRIT™ PROGRAM
“As a nutri+on educator, I am on many email lists and get inundated with offers of special training. I have been very judicious about the trainings I actually take part in, looking for courses that offer solid nutri+on science. When I read about this training, I liked the rigor if it -‐-‐ it felt like a substan+ve course of study. I also knew immediately that it could help many of my clients, who are struggling with their rela+onship to food. The Food & Spirit Cer+fica+on Program was everything I had hoped it would be – enlightening, challenging, transforma+ve. It was fun, too, with so many visually stunning images – I hadn’t expected that, and loved geLng a bonus! Most important, the program has changed the way I think about my private nutri+on prac+ce by broadening and deepening my understanding of “nutri+on” – I now think in terms of “nourishment.” On a personal note, I made some lifestyle changes of my own during the program, like doing a brief seated medita+on daily. I have already recommended this wonderful program to numerous colleagues, and plan to con+nue being part of the F&S community!" -‐ Paula Mar*nac, MA, MS, Board Cer*fied in Holis*c Nutri*on (cand.)
"Dr. Deanna Minich is a wealth of knowledge and even if you have read every single one of her books, each week you will learn at least one new bit of informa+on that will educate you to higher levels. This is an emo+onally safe community in which to bare your soul, explore your personal modus operandi, challenge your comfort levels, and grow. Sign up already!" -‐ Jen Bruno, Cer*fied Personal Trainer ACE, Cer*fied Health Coach INN
“I highly recommend every die++an out there to take this course. It helped me to really see the full picture of what nutri+on is all about. It is impossible to prac+ce integra+ve nutri+on without incorpora+ng this great valuable informa+on to your consul+ng sessions. On a personal level, this course really strengthened me. I feel much more in balance in my personal and my professional life. The speaker is definitely not to be missed…what a great source of knowledge, endless support, and highly compassionate person. This course is truly a blessing. Already integrated some of the material with pa+ents, and I can see great result. A must to every health prac++oner.” – Vered Kantor, M.S., R.D., L.D., IC
"I feel that this course will be essen+al to move and evolve my prac+ce. I believe it’s important to provide the tools to clients that resonate with oneself. The teachings of Food & Spirit have helped make me whole and it is important for me to bring it to my prac+ce." -‐ Sabine Weber, MS, RD, CDN
“Being a scien+st as well as a yoga and medita+on teacher with a strong sense of myself and others as spirit, I’ve encountered difficulty marrying the two realms of science and spirituality in a way that is acceptable to my peers in diete+cs. This training is a wonderful blend of the two. I’ve found other courses to be heavily weighted in one or the other, but not well blended. I want to deepened my understanding of nutri+on in the way I love most – a mul+-‐faceted, integra+ve and leV brain/right brain “balanced” way! I think this marriage is the future of health care!” -‐ Casey Conroy, MNutrDiet, BVSc(Hons), MACNEM

TESTIMONIALS FROM OTHER PROGRAMS USING THE FOOD & SPIRIT™ APPROACH
"Food & Spirit offers something unique: a framework to work with clients in a way that lets prac++oners embrace complexity rather than having to reduce it; it gives us a mul+-‐dimensional “window” through which to address clients in a holis+c, yet manageable, way. I have found Food & Spirit to be, at the same +me, intellectually rigorous, inspira+onally crea+ve and down-‐to-‐earth prac+cal. Not least, it is flexible enough to be integrated into any exis+ng prac+ce; just select from the “buffet” of tools and therapeu+c interven+ons which best fit each client’s needs.” -‐ Romilly Hodges, Cer*fied Food & Spirit Prac**oner "What a joy it has been to be a part of this program. The Food & Spirit system has really put it all together for me. We are such beau+ful & complex beings! This program has been invaluable. Since taking this program I have felt a subtle guidance to focus my prac+ce on women's empowerment, disordered ea+ng, body image issues and mental, emo+onal, spiritual health. Thank you to the Food & Spirit team from the bo_om of my heart for aligning me with my true path." -‐-‐Caitlyn Robson, RHN Holis*c Nutri*onist & Wellness Coach
