Hi everyone, your friendly neighborhood Stud here. It has been a fun two years serving as the director for the alumni. I want to thank everyone for the opportunity. We have seen relations between the band and the alumni grow and improve during this time. Those of us on the board owe a lot of that growth to the alumni who come back to make sure these events remain fun and fulfilling for everyone involved. The last several years I have seen the population of the alumni band explode and I hope that more of you will come on out for my 11th straight picnic day. GO AGS!

their passions for marching band. Hannum proved to be the strongest of the three, citing that his familiarity and close ties with the group can mitigate the potential culture clash that can come with an external candidate.

Surely, Hannum’s experience with the group will serve as a strong asset as the CAMB moves forward. He has been serving as the CAMB's Assistant Director since August of 2011. He completed his Masters of Arts Degree specializing in Music Education at Oregon State, after completing his BA in Music Performance at UCD.

The CAMBAA Board is committed to serving as a strong supporter of Hannum in his new role. As the University navigates a critical turning point with both a new Director of Athletics and an incoming Director of Student Affairs (still TBD), the CAMB is in a prime position to create new allies throughout the community.

Be sure to give Olin a well-deserved pat on the back when you see him at Picnic Day! But don’t forget to remind him what things were like when you were a freshman...some traditions must stay alive! :)

Congratulations again, to Director Hannum!

That’s right, folks! A CAMB Alum has the honor...err...privilege...of leading the CAMB as the new Director. In March, the CAMB excitedly announced that fellow alumnus and former Student Director Olin Hannum had been selected from a strong pool of candidates. As the CAMB faces unlimited potential for growth and exposure, Hannum’s leadership will no doubt position the organization well for success.

In June of 2012, former CAMB Director Tom Slabaugh resigned his post to take a position as Director of Bands at Davis High School. Since then, Campus Recreation and the University have been working hard to fill his shoes with another qualified candidate. The position for CAMB Director/Assistant Director of Campus Recreation opened in December and quickly attracted a very qualified pool of candidates. In March, 3 candidates were selected to participate in the campus interview process. Through a panel interview, lunch with selected CAMB students, a formal rehearsal, an open question/answer forum and presentation, and interviews with student councils; the candidates impressed everyone with their musical expertise, their visions for growth, and

The CAMB Gal-uh! will be held on Saturday, May 18th in the ARC Ballroom!

The event will be from 6-9 pm, with drinks and hors d'oeuvres starting at 5:45. For $65 per person, come on out for a fun-filled night of live music, entertainment and a silent auction. Wonderful auction prizes this year will include a band-uh! basket, a spa basket, a cooking basket, a dog lovers basket, a BBQ basket, a rainy day/coffee lover's basket, a beer basket, an outdoor adventure basket, and more!

Our annual Upperbandsmen welcome will be held on Saturday, May 18th. The event will once again be on the same day as the CAMB Gal-uh! fundraiser. The Upperbandsmen welcome will be held in the afternoon and will end with enough time for everyone to get prepared for the Gal-uh! that evening.

As last year, the first 90 minutes or so of the Upperbandsmen welcome is intended mostly for current students and recent graduates. We’ll have a keynote speaker making a 30-minute presentation followed by a Q&A session. Then we’ll have two different Q&A panels populated with CAMBAA members. The topics for the panels aren’t yet set but in the past we’ve covered topics like networking for job searching, what to expect from grad school applications, and what to expect from your first professional job.

At the conclusion of the keynote speaker and alumni panel sessions we’ll be hosting a mixer for alumni and students to meet and network. We’ll initially separate people into groups by common major and career interest. After a while we’ll probably open it up for people to casually mingle with the whole group. The alumni mixer session will last about 60 minutes and will include appetizers and beer. We invite you to attend so that you can network with with some of the CAMB members who’ll be soon joining our alumni ranks.

Details of time and location for the Upperbandsmen welcome will be sent out over email and posted to Facebook in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!

There have been a lot of changes in the relationship between CAMBAA, CAMB, Campus Rec, and the University over the last decade or so. To name a few of the changes- the band moved to Campus Recreation, Tom Slabaugh was hired by Campus Rec, CAMBAA was required to take a larger degree of separation from CAMB, Tom Slabaugh left for a new position, Olin Hannum was hired as the new Faculty Director. All of those changes have resulted in new roles and responsibilities for CAMBAA. It has also required the CAMBAA Board of Directors to develop a strategic vision for both our organization and for our relationships with CAMB and Campus Rec.

The CAMBAA Board is hoping to schedule a teleconference this summer to relate our experiences with CAMB and Campus Rec over the last several years and to share our strategic vision with the general CAMBAA membership. The teleconference would be open to all CAMBAA members and would consist of a presentation from the Board followed by a Q&A session. We hope to get together a plan for this teleconference after Picnic Day has passed. We’ll then send out more details and scheduling info via email and Facebook. If you have specific requests for topics that you’d like us to cover please feel free to share them with us at Picnic Day.

It’s that time again- CAMBAA Board of Directors elections. They’ll be held on Picnic Day after the rally at the Pancake Breakfast. The elections will be held based on a voice vote of those present. Please come and join us for the vote.
