Case Study 1:

The operation of Generator (380kVA) used by our customer was outsourced to a third

party.

The vendor for the particular site claimed that they were always filling 200 litres for each

fill. FuelSafe was reporting around 180 litres.

A surprise check was carried out and verified that FuelSafe data was correct.

The institution started paying the vendor based on the data reported by FuelSafe thus

accruing annualized Savings of INR 300,000!

125 kVA Diesel Generator used by our customer was fuelled by its own operator.

The process set in was that the generator would be fueled at the rate of 50 litres per fill.

FuelSafe was reporting around 46-47 litres.

It was further verified by the management that the data reported by FuelSafe was correct.

The customer saved 3-4 litres per fill. Annualized Savings of INR 126,000!

The customer, a retail store, used to buy diesel based on the number of hours its 140kVA

generator ran.

The operator at the site claimed the consumption per hour(CPH) to be 27 litres per hours.

This was taken as the benchmark.

The CPH determined by FuelSafe was 14.6 litres per hour as against the 27 lph claimed by

the operator.

The saving was 44.3%! Annualized Savings of INR 427,180!

The customer, a tech park, was switching on the generator (1010kVA) much before power

cut and switching off much after power returned.

The average extra running was 15 minutes per run.

There were two power cuts per day of 30 minutes each totaling one hour. Extra running

per month was 15 hours.

With CPH of 120 litres per hour , the annualized savings is around INR 1,080,000!

At a Construction site , with the use of FuelSafe it was calculated that the diesel cost per

unit was INR 40!

The reason was low capacity utilization. The load on the generator was under 10% of

optimum load.

The diesel cost for this customer was over Rs 150,000 per month and even doubling the

load or rightsizing the generator would result in huge savings.

FuelSafe helped in the identification of the problem and helped in bringing down the per

unit cost to INR 13.23, thus saving around 67%!

Armed with FuelSafe data the construction company compared the performance of four

of its sites. The most efficient site had 132 starts in one month and the average run was

1:20 hours. Against this, current site that had 34 starts and average run of 11:45 Hours.

Conclusion : The first site switched off when not needed. The second site switched on in

the morning and ran he generator till work finished in the evening.

The first site’s total running was 175 hours for the month while the second site was 399

hours.
