THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT DECEMBER 11, 2016
Articles need to be submitted, in writing, to the Rectory by 11:00 am Friday the week before the Bulletin is printed.
Sainte Anne Parish is a faith community in the Roman Catholic tradition. We strive to live up to the mot-
to: "We Are Family". We see ourselves as a local expression of the universal Church, the People of God,
the Body of Christ. Through God's grace we seek to be welcoming and loving. Our life centers on the
weekend celebration of the Eucharist. We meet Jesus Christ in the Eucharist and are then challenged to
bring His love to others.

PARISH STAFF:
Good St. Anne, you were especially favored by God to be the mother of the most holy Vir-gin Mary, the Mother of our Savior. By your power with your most pure daughter and with her divine Son, kindly obtain for us the grace and the favor we now seek. Please secure for us also forgiveness of our past sins, the strength to perform faithfully our daily duties and the help we need to perse-
vere in the love of Jesus and Mary. Amen.
To have the bulletin delivered to your email each week, go to http://www.pilotbulletins.net/sign-up/ and scroll down the Church Directory to find Ste Anne and register.
THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT DECEMBER 11, 2016
Third Sunday of Advent The letter of Saint James – four little verses packed with mean-ing. Patient or patience appears four times. Do you think he's trying to tell us something? We live in an instant world. The average YouTube video is four minutes, 20 seconds – and that's too long for some viewers. Advent is a time to put the brakes on – slow down, breathe. The world will tell us that time is running out – buy, buy, buy. Now! The Church tells us that Jesus will come whether the stockings are filled or not. Patience. This week, try to build in some quiet time – really. You can do it. Just five minutes – a bit longer than a TV commercial or YouTube video. Take the time to remember a loved one in pray-er. Now that's a gift – for the giver and recipient.
Advent Evening Prayer: On this Wednesday evening join us for Advent Evening prayer led by the Carmelite Sisters. It will begin at 7:00 p.m.
Guadalupe: December 12 is the Feast of Our Lady of Guada-lupe. Under this title Mary is the Patroness of all the Americas and the Patroness of the unborn. Check out the movie Guada-lupe on the Formed Website. (cf. the bulletin info on Formed) Become more familiar with this apparition of the Mother of God during Advent.
Sacrament of Reconciliation/Confession: In addition to Sat-urday afternoons from 3:15p.m. – 3:45p.m. there will be addi-tional confession times in preparation for Christmas: Wednes-day, December 21, from 6:30p.m. – 8:00p.m. and Saturday, De-cember 24, from 10:00a.m. – 12:Noon. (There are no confes-sions on Saturday afternoon, December 24.) Masses for Christmas: Vigil Masses on Saturday, December 24, will be at 4:00p.m. and 6:00p.m. There will be a Midnight Mass. Mass on Christmas morning will be at 10:00a.m.

Christmas Collection: This Christmas, the collection will once again benefit the Clergy Health and Retirement Trust which cares for the needs of our priests. Our priests are always there for us; they share Christ's good news, perform good works, and build communities of good faith. All are welcome to learn more and make a gift online at clergytrust.org. And don't forget to find the Trust on Facebook by searching "@ClergyTrust." Thank you in advance for your prayers and support. Heritage Missal: At the beginning of Advent we began using the Heritage Missal as our worship aid. You will have noticed that the weekend and holyday scripture readings are included. Un-less you have difficulty hearing the readings at Mass, continue to focus your attention on the lector and the priest. Also try to review the readings before Mass begins. The page number for the readings will be indicated at the top of the hymn boards. Ste. Anne Parish Choir: Our choir which sings on Sundays at the 11:00a.m. Mass always welcomes new singers. Rehearsals are held in the church on Thursday evenings beginning at 7:00p.m. We would like to augment the choir for the Christmas Midnight Mass. If you wish to sing at the Midnight Mass but are unable to commit to regular participation in the choir, please come to the Thursday evening rehearsals on December 15, and 22.
Ste. Anne Chapel: Now that we are back on standard time the Chapel will close earlier. It will be open for prayer each day from 8:00a.m. until 5:00p.m. On Tuesdays it will close at 7:00p.m. following the Tuesday evening Eucharistic Adoration and rosary.
Experience the Joy of Cursillo: The Cursillo weekend is an
invitation to experience the love of Jesus Christ on a more per-
sonal level and to bring this love and joy into our daily lives.
The Cursillo is "a short course in Christianity". Weekends are
held for men and women every other month at the Salvatorian
Center in Methuen, MA. Cursillo has brought the faith alive in
countless men and women over the years. Contact Father John
for more information. (978-744-1930)
Bequests to Ste. Anne Parish: Bequests to Ste. Anne Parish
are strongly encouraged and gratefully accepted. When a loved
one dies, advise relatives and friends to consider a donation to
our parish in memory of the deceased, and include this request
in the obituary notice. Also please include your parish in your
own will.

Food Drive-2016, the food collected by the scouts which is donated to St Anne's.
From Father John: I would like to share with you two prayers that
appear frequently in the Masses of Advent: "Father, may our commun-ion teach us to love heaven. May its promise and hope guide our way on earth." and "Father, you give us food from heaven. By our sharing in this mystery, teach us to judge wisely the things of earth and to love the things of heaven." In these prayers we ask that we may love heav-
en and the things of heaven. We pray that we may judge wisely the
things of earth and allow our hope for heaven to guide our life on this
earth. A prayer offered at graveside asks the Lord to "stir up in our
hearts a longing for heaven" These are very important prayers. All
too often we may find ourselves loving the things of earth and tending
to neglect or forget about the things of heaven. It can lead us during
Advent to center ourselves on the material aspects of our Christmas
celebration and to neglect or forget the spiritual. We may be tempted
to put a lot of energy into Christmas gifts, parties, pageants and con-
certs and perhaps find ourselves neglecting prayer, scripture, getting
ourselves to confession, and planning carefully when we will attend
Christmas Mass. We now have two weeks to prepare spiritually for
Christmas. Please check our parish schedule of Christmas Masses
and Confessions in this bulletin. May the Lord bless and enrich spir-
itually these final two weeks of Advent preparation. May your hearts
be ready to receive Christ with joy.
Father John
Once again this year, we have been blessed with
an anonymous donor who will match all dona-
tions made to the Salem St. Vincent de Paul So-
ciety during the month of December. This is an
opportunity for members of the Salem catholic
community to double the value of a gift to help Christ and his
poor. Think of it as your Christmas birthday present to Jesus.
What better way to celebrate this Christmas season than to help
the needy? We will be collecting at the doors at all the masses
in Salem December 10 and 11. Though this weekend is very
important for our fundraising effort, all December donations will
qualify for the match. You may also mail checks made out to the
Society of St. Vincent de Paul and addressed to St. Vincent de
Paul, 28 St. Peter St. Salem, MA. 01970.
The Society will be meeting in the St. James conference room
on the 12th of December at 7 PM. Come and see what we do!
Grand Annual Collection: Our Grand Annual Weekend originally
schedule for December 3/4 ) has been postponed until the weekend of
January 21/22. Please plan to make a generous gift to Ste. Anne Par-
ish in January.
There will be a meeting of the Sainte Anne Holy Name Society (HNS) on Sunday, December 11, in the School Hall following the 8:30 AM Mass.
As always, we invite all the men of the Parish to join us for cof-fee, doughnuts and good fellowship.

Generosity: Ste. Anne Parish needs your continuing generosity. The new fiscal year began on July 1. On the first two weekends we exceeded our parish goal for the Offertory Collection. This was most encouraging. However, for the last several weekends we have fallen behind again. ($1,476) Please review prayerfully your contributions. If you are not using the Parish Envelopes, please consider beginning. Also the best and most regular way to support your parish financially is Online Giving. The website is www.parishpay.com
Bequests to Ste. Anne Parish: Bequests to Ste. Anne Parish are strongly encouraged and gratefully accepted. When a loved one dies, advise relatives and friends to make a donation to our parish in memory of the deceased, and include this request in the obituary no-tice. Also consider including your parish in your will.
Sacrament of the Sick: One of the gifts of the Second Vatican
Council was the renewal of the Sacrament of the Anointing of the
Sick. This beautiful sacrament is no longer reserved for a person
in danger of death, but should be celebrated by anyone with a
serious illness, a person facing serious surgery, or a person in a
weakened condition. Father John will offer this sacrament on the
third weekend of each month after one of the Masses. The next celebration of this sacrament will be following the 4:00p.m. Vigil Mass on Saturday, December 17. The sacrament is also
available for people in their homes by calling the rectory. Anyone
terminally ill or beginning Hospice Care should receive this sacra-
ment as soon as possible.
Formed: Since July your parish has been offering you free of charge the excellent Faith Formation Program entitled Formed. De-spite frequent encouragement from the pulpit and from the bulletin only 54 persons are taking advantage of this opportunity. Fr. John is asking every person/family that is online to register for Formed. (The simple instructions are below.) We hope to use this program to strengthen Faith Formation for all individuals and families in our parish.
