Each summer, Catholic Charities’ Camp I Am Special serves meals to over 400 campers with special needs, buddies, and staff. With their days full of activity, homemade meals are gob-bled up and greatly appreciated by our camp-ers! We need your help in providing lunch, dinner or snacks for camp over the 7 week-long sessions. Camp runs from June 11 to Au-gust 5. The National Catholic Youth Conference Attention current 8th grade students and all high school students—there’s still time to reserve a spot for the National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC), November 16-19, 2017. The initial, non-refundable deposit of $100 is past due. If you’re not sure you can go talk to your parents and us. We must submit our registration to the diocese by Fri., April 28. SHOWERS WITH FLOWERS! San Jose High School Youth Ministry is offering a fun and exciting fundraiser. For a cost of $15.00 you can have someone’s yard showered with flowers. The flowers are the large plastic windmill yard orna-ments. During the night, the yard of the individual(s) that you select to be showered will be filled with flowers and a sign will be posted notifying them that they have been showered with flowers by the youth group. The flowers will remain for 24 hours and will be removed the next evening by the youth group. The individual showered will be given an ex-planation about the fundraiser and who showered them. All proceeds support San Jose’s Youth Minis-try in attending the National Catholic Youth Confer-ence. Reservations for Shower with Flowers will be sold at the youth table under the church vestibule after all Masses this weekend. Call Mike at 733-1630 ext. 103 for more information.

Congratulations State Science Fair Participants Seven San Jose middle school students participated on the Northeast Florida Regional Science and Engineering Fair’s State Team last week in Lakeland, Florida. There were 13 members on the junior division team and San Jose really dominated the competition which showcased over 800 projects between the junior and senior divisions. The students demonstrated excellence in science and their presentation skills really made the difference for the team. 1st place: A.J. ‘El Señor está vivo, queriendo resucitar a quienes han sepultado

la esperanza’ El Papa preside la Vigilia Pascual en la basílica de San Pedro, con la ceremonia del ‘lucernario’ La ceremonia litúrgica inició con el ‘lucernario’ en el atrio de la basílica, en donde el Santo Padre a partir del fuego nuevo encendió el cirio pascual, en el que incidió las letras alfa y omega. Llevando el cirio pascual que simboliza a Cris-to ‘luz del mundo’, a medida que el Sucesor de Pedro entraba en la basílica que se encon-traba en penumbra, la misma se fue iluminan-do con las velas, hasta que se encendieron las luces con gran intensidad, mientas el diácono cantaba por tres veces ‘Lumen Christi‘ y la asamblea respondía ‘Deo Gratias‘. El Santo Padre vestía paramentos blancos con unos dis-cretos bordados verdes y dorado. Le siguió la liturgia de la palabra, con tres lecturas que comprendieron el libro del Éxo-do, seguido por el ‘Gloria in Excelsis Deo’, cantado por el Coro pontificio de la Capilla Sixtina, mientras las campanas repicaban al viento y la basílica se iluminaba aún más. Después de la lectura del Evangelio, el santo-Papa en su homilía invitó a imaginar los pasos de María Magdalena y de las mujeres que no se convencen de que todo haya terminado de esa manera. Rostros, dijo, en los que se pue-

den encontrar el de “tantas madres y abuelas, el rostro de niños y jóvenes que resisten el pe-so y el dolor de tanta injusticia inhumana”. De quienes sienten “el dolor por la explotación y la trata”. El rostro “de aquellos que sufren el desprecio por ser inmigrantes, huérfanos de tierra, de casa, de familia; el rostro de aque-llos que su mirada revela soledad y abandono por tener las manos demasiado arrugadas”. “Con el riego –precisó el Pontífice– de conven-cernos de que esa es la ley de la vida, aneste-siándonos con desahogos que lo único que lo-gran es apagar la esperanza que Dios puso en nuestras manos. “De pronto, estas mujeres recibieron una sa-cudida”, recordó Francisco. “Con la Resurrec-ción, Cristo no ha movido solamente la piedra del sepulcro, sino que quiere también hacer saltar todas las barreras que nos encierran en nuestros estériles pesimismos”. “Vayamos con ellas a anunciar la noticia, va-yamos… donde parece que la muerte ha sido la única solución”, exhortó. Porque “el Señor está Vivo. Vivo y queriendo resucitar en tantos rostros que han sepultado la esperanza, que han sepultado los sueños, que han sepultado la dignidad”. Y si no somos capaces de dejar que el Espíritu nos conduzca por este camino, entonces no somos cristia-nos. Concluyó el santo Papa.

En la tradición de la Iglesia el matrimonio es considerado un sacramento del amor de Dios que es invisible y hecho visible a través de la unión del hombre y la mujer. Por eso se les pide a las parejas que hablen con el sacerdote ocho meses antes de la boda. Esto nos ayuda a prepararnos, como familia para preparar no solamente la ceremonia sino también nuestra men-te y corazone para recibir el regalo y la gracia del sacramento del matrimonio.

Presentar un niño para el Bautismo es una obligación seria y requiere de un compromiso de fe por parte de los padres y padrinos. Este compromiso se ejemplifica ser practi-cante, católicos activos por lo menos 6 meses, en la Parroquia de San José. Si usted se acaba de mudar a la parroquia, una carta de su párroco anterior verificando que usted era activo es aceptable.
