Welcome to Term 2! It’s great to see everyone back at school again. We hope you had a wonderful holiday. Congratulations to Riley who celebrated his birthday during the holiday break.Even though we’ve only been here for four days this week, it has been a busy time filled with lots of activities. We really enjoyed our Chapel program on Wednesday. Pastor Jack was our speaker and he told us a great story. We also had Mr Bill and Mr Ron come and present special medallions to us at the beginning of Chapel. The medallions are to commemorate a centenary of landings at Galipoli. We plan to take good care of these special reminders of what others have done for our country. We have begun to study a new book in English and we are having lots of fun finding out all about the adventures of a girl called Anne. We have been working really hard to learn how to write a persuasive text in Writing and we are looking forward to sharing our work with others. Well done everyone for a fantastic effort in our spelling test! We are trying really hard to fulfil our homework requirements for the new term. We need to remember to complete our new Reading Record each night. We are going to try really hard to read lots of books and record our efforts in our new Reading Record Booklets. A great start to the term, everyone!

ChapelWe wish to remind parents that they are very welcome to come along and attend our chapel programs on Wednesday mornings. We hope to see you there!

School MagazineBy now you will have received a letter about our new school magazine. This is very exciting because we have never had a yearbook entirely dedicated to our Toronto Campus students. We are asking for your input into helping to name our school magazine, and there is a form to fill out attached to the back of the letter. Alternatively, you can print the form out from the email you will have received. If you have any other suggestions or ideas, please see Mrs Thompson.

Whole School PhotoAdvanced Life have provided us with two options for our whole school photo. The two options will be available on Advanced Life web page within the next week should you wish to make a purchase. You will be able to purchase online using the code MLR386-1A or searching for Avondale School - Toronto Campus at www.advancedimage.com.au

What a BIG week we have had!! Much of the week was spent preparing for our School Concert and we are just so proud of the students for their efforts with learning all the songs and drama scripts. Congratulations to our students for a job very well done on the night. We are certainly very proud of them! A very big thank you to Pastor Grego and Toronto Church for their huge contribution to our School Concert. We really enjoyed Pastor Grego’s singing and it was such a privilege for the students to have the opportunity to sing with him, also. We wish to acknowledge and thank Mr Drury and his team who went to a lot of effort to mount our backdrop to a frame. It was a big job and we really appreciate what they did. Thank you, mums and dads, for all your support, too! We know there were lots of rehearsals at home and we really appreciate your efforts. We will include photos of the concert in our next newsletter.

As I mentioned in my welcome speech last night, our School Concert theme, ‘Grow’, brings to mind a number of things. When the students return to school after each of the holiday breaks, I always notice how much they have grown. It sometimes makes me feel like I want to start growing again just to keep up with them - either that or get some stilts! At this time of the year I love looking at how much academic growth the students have made since the beginning of the year. The other day one of the teachers shared some outstanding results with me. It was great to hear of the wonderful achievements that have been made. One cannot over-look the school garden when thinking about growth. It is always exciting to see what the students grow in that garden. Earlier in the week I was given some beetroot. They were amazing! When I think of what our school looked like a few years ago I am encouraged by the growth that has taken place since then. Do you know that just a few years ago the Pre-Kindy students weren’t a class of their own? Now their classroom is a busy and happening place. Now our KIndy students have begun to grow into a classroom of their own. Plans are in place to add a demountable to our school to assist with school growth. God is truly blessing!I’d like to take a moment to offer special thanks to Toronto Church for all their support of our school. Their support has hugely aided in the growth of this school. The school bus is just one example. So, as we move into the future, we will continue to work together as a community to support this school. Most of all, our commitment is that this school is in God’s hands. We are in absolute awe of what He has done here and we look forward to seeing what He will do in the future.

A big thank you to Mrs Thompson and all the other staff for organising and running a great ‘Fruit and Veg Day’ on Tuesday. Lots of fun was had by all and the most important thing was that the students were able to learn about the importance of healthy eating. Thank you also to the mums, dads and grandparents who came along and supported this event.

I want to take a moment to thank our Parents and Friends Administration team for the great work they are doing with establishing our very own P&F Association. They have already been actively involved in raising funds and plans are being made for their involvement in a number of school projects. The first P&F meeting is being organised for early next term and we want to encourage as many parents as possible to come along and attend this meeting. Watch this space!

Happy holidays and we look forward to seeing you in the new term.

This week has been all about practising for the school concert. We have been very busy learning the songs and the actions for the songs. On Tuesday, we had our Fruit and Veg day, and we took part in lots of sport activities and healthy food eating. We made fruit smoothies, vegetable juices, and fruit kebabs. We also got to work with our sport houses, and everyone did really well. It was red house, Hunter, who won the fruit and veg challenge this time. It was a fun day. There was even a big banana walking around. Even though we have been practising most of this week for the concert, we still had time on Wednesday for gymnastics and gardening time. We have really loved our gymnastics teacher, Will. He had lots of fun activities for us, and we learnt lots. In the garden, we planted our beetroot seedlings, and then we harvested some beetroot we had planted earlier in the term. Some of us even learnt how to pick the peas, without pulling the plants out. All in all, it has been a great term, that has flown by. Have a happy holiday everyone, and we will see you next term.

This week has been extremely busy with concert practice and our fruit and veg olympics. The fruit and veggie olympics and master chef activities were awesome! Everyone had so much fun playing games and then getting to eat the fruit and veggies that they were using in the games. The Master Chef activities were a highlight with everyone getting to make juices, kebabs, smoothies and snacking on raw veggies. All the students did really well trying something that was new or eating food even though they may not have liked it, just to get points for their team. The wacky fruits and veggies that were brought in were amazing! Many of them we have never seen before. Concert practice has been going really well and everyone has been working very hard! We couldn’t wait to show our items to our families on Thursday night. Thank you to all the parents who have helped their children to learn the songs! It is very exciting that we have made it to the end of another term and we can’t wait for the holidays. We are very sad that we have to say goodbye to Charlotte and we will all miss her! We wish her and her family well as they start a new adventure on the North Coast.

Years 1 & 2

Pre-Kindy C lass News

Years 3-6

We have had a jam-packed final week of Term 3. On Tuesday we had a perfect combination of fun, sun and eating lots of healthy and delicious fruit and vegetables for our fruit and vegetable Mini Olympics. We all had our face painted by our talented mums. We put our best efforts in the super fun novelty events that followed and then we munched on fruit kebabs, drank tasty freshly made juices and smoothies and gobbled up raw veggies until they were all gone. Congratulations to all our happy and healthy students for giving their best in all that they did. You are ALL winners!

On Wednesday we thoroughly enjoyed our gymnastics. We played a fun warm-up game of “Bombard” with Boys Vs Girls - tying with one game each. Then the students practiced a wide range of activities in the gymnastics circuit. It was a lovely day to be outside and be moving. Finally, the students have been sounding so amazing in our School Concert practices and we are so proud of what they can already do.

This week we spent a lot of time preparing for our School Concert. We were just so proud to present our items to you and we hope you enjoyed the program. Thank you to our mums and dads for supporting this special event in so many ways. We really appreciate all your help with learning all the words we needed to know, with making sure we had special costumes to wear, and for all the encouragement along the way. We also want to thank Pr Grego and Toronto Church for their enormous contribution to our School Concert. We really enjoyed Pr Grego’s singing and it was also great to be able to sing with him. We hope we can have many more of these opportunities in the future!

We made flower pots for our concert guests and we hope they enjoy finding out what the secret plant will be that will grow in each of the pots. We had a great time searching for Bible texts to write on the paper flowers and we hope they are a blessing to all who received them.

We had a great time on Tuesday when we participated in the Fruit and Veg Olympics. It was so much fun finding out all about some very exotic fruits and vegetables. We also enjoyed all of the relays and the master chef activities. Thank you teachers!

Pr Grego told us a story for chapel time this week. We enjoyed hearing about a time when he visited a lion park in Africa. Thank you, Pr Grego! We also want to thank Mrs Morris for organising our great chapel programs each week. We really appreciate this special time.

Congratulations, students, for your outstanding performances at our School Concert! Happy holidays!

Parents & Friends We value Enthusiasm

As we look around our school learning community it excites us to see the high levels of involvement and connection amongst our parents, carers and friends. Whether it be the chit chat at drop off or pick up times, the discussions and assistance of each other regarding concert costumes or parents turning up to support and assist with excursions and special events, this is what makes our learning community strong. Thank you parents, carers and friends for doing what you do!

At the end of this term we are sad to farewell one of our families, but wish the Duncan’s well as they head to Ballina to start a new phase of life. Your family has been a great asset to our school and you will all be greatly missed – but especially Charlotte.

We also have a number of families who have members graduating at the end of the year or work ending. Jobs are starting to come available for these families and we pray that God will guide them as they make decisions and plan for moves and changes next year.

From the P&F team, we hope you all have a safe and family focused time over the holidays and we look forward to seeing you back next term for our first meeting in week 2.
