Cosmo’s Recycling Education Centre is open to groups for tours. It was to be a 45 th anniversary project but the flood turned it into a Canada 150 project instead. It consists of a Sorting Room where Participants sort containers for delivery to SARCAN and the Heritage Room. Historical pho- tos are featured from the Saskatoon Library Local History Room and the Provincial Archives of Sas- katchewan. Archival news clips, graphics, games, and video presentations in the Education Centre’s Heritage Room take visitors through the chal- lenges of growing recycling in our city. It takes you from Cosmo’s pioneering efforts in 1971 through to the present day operation. The Centre encourages visitors to view recycling in context of the community. Saskatoon’s recycling story is about more than the environment, it’s a compel- ling story of inclusion for persons with intellec- tual disabilities woven through the fabric of our city. The displays are larger-than-life which makes it engaging for school students. One of these displays features art work created by Quinn Gryschuk and Adam Nahachewky made from 1,111 aluminum cans and 3 blue glass bottles. A SHARED VISION was given by Emterra Environ- mental as an anniversary gift. As part of Cosmo’s Grand Re-Opening, the owner of Emterra, Emmie Leung, was present for the unveiling as well as students from City Park School’s Eco-Quest program and other invited guests. The “A SHARED VISON” video is available at www.cosmoindustries.com or our Youtube channel. We continued with the Golden Age group, which includes students in grades 1-4 that volunteer with our senior participants. This year, we continued our ongoing partnership with St. Mi-chael’s Community School. We had a late start this year due to the flood however, we welcomed back the students and staff from St. Michael's in February. On May 24th, a group from Arlington ventured out to the mystical Crooked Bush. Candace, Carla, Courtney and Joseph toured “The Bush” on the winding board-walk built amidst the trees. After several photo shoots the group had a nice picnic lunch before heading to the vehicle to escape the rain. On the way back to Saska-toon we made several stops to find Geocaches and to admire some of the wildlife which included cows, bulls, horses, bison, elk, goats, deer, ducks and geese! If any-one has the opportunity, go check out this Saskatche-wan Wonder!

On the evening of Friday, May 12, 2017 Tyrell Sandfly-

Westfield was invited to be the ‘Guest of Honour’ at an

Adult Piano Recital held at the Yamaha Piano Store on

Broadway Avenue. Tyrell performed two songs;

‘Hallelujah’ as a solo and ‘Amazing Grace’ as a duet with

his friend and piano teacher, Marie Jolly. He performed in

front of approximately 50 guests. They thoroughly en-

joyed listening to and meeting Tyrell for the first time.

Judging by Tyrell’s smile that was on his face all evening,

he really enjoyed his experience! He worked hard to pre-

pare for this recital. He is looking forward to spending

time with his piano instructor again in the fall and perhaps

being given an opportunity to perform again in the spring.

Well done, Tyrell!

The weather was rather questionable on the morning of Wednesday May 24th, 2017. The skies were all shades of grey and although we are no experts, we experienced what felt like gale force winds. Upon arriving at Cosmo that morning, it was of great concern that the events of the day would be... postponed. Filled with optimism, 13 athletes and 3 self-proclaimed coaches boarded the chartered bus en route to E.D. Feehan High School to commence opening ceremonies of the 2017 Special Olympic Games. Athletic representation from Cosmopolitan Industries Ltd. included: Evgeny Miroschnichenko, Kevin Czarnota, Dustin Westfield, Justin Tharp, Kelly Desjarlais, Marlene Davitko, Roberta Miller, Ashley Adair, Rebecca Lewis, Joel Lewis, Mike Snell, Brooke Hawman, and Richard Sayers. Opening ceremonies included a number of guest speakers such as Jillian Gallays, Canadian Olympic Wrestling athlete from Saskatoon, SK. After some inspiring speakers and the patriotic singing of our national anthem, the games began. Athletes participated in long jump, stationary jump, 50 and 100 meter races, ball throw, soccer kick, and shot put. The event was very well organized by the staff and students of E.D. Feehan High School as they accommodated athletes of all different ages and abilities. All of the athletes displayed sportsmanlike attitudes, a willingness to participate, and a wonderful amount of support for their fellow competitors. Rain began to come down in the final minutes of the event, ending things a bit early. This allowed for more opportu-nity to socialize with some of the other athletes and coaches at the event. Red, blue, and white ribbons were won, but the true take-away of the event were the memo-ries that we made.

On June 23rd , the raffle was drawn for two tickets anywhere Westjet flies (valued up

to $2900). The lucky winner was:

Elsie Siemens

Congrats!

Evelyn Pritchard was born on April 13th, 1942 in Spy Hill, Saskatchewan. She left to be with the Lord on May 9th, 2017 at 75 years of age. She was employed at Cosmopolitan Industries for 21 years where she received a certificate for her services. Evelyn was a kind, caring, lovable person with a childlike personality. She loved to read her favorite book, “The Three Little Pigs”. Psalm 23 was her favorite quote, “The Lord is my Shepherd”. Evelyn’s favorite things were horses, shoes, she loved the win-ter, ER the show, cats, dogs, and coloring crafts. Her bedroom was taken over by all of her teddy bears. Played horse shoes, her favor-

ite colour was red, her favorite month was April because it was her birthday. She loved her hair and being clean. She also loved to listen to Johnny Cash. She was sociable, was beautiful inside and out and she was always happy to have her fam-ily visit her. She brought joy and comfort to all of us. She was good with her money, good with animals, she loved swimming, she loved hugs and kisses and she had a great smile which touched your heart. She wouldn’t let you go once she had a hold of you. God took another Rose from our garden. She touched our lives in so many ways. She will never be forgotten, her spirit will always be alive. This isn’t a good-bye Evelyn, until we meet again. She will be greatly missed by all of her fam-ily and friends.

As we move into the summer months, it is important that we

minimize the chances of heat-induced illnesses.

High temperature and humidity, physical exertion and lack

of sufficient water intake can lead to heat related stress.

Symptoms of heat exhaustion or heat stroke include confu-

sion, irrational-behavior, loss of consciousness, abnormally

high body temperature and hot, dry skin.

Stay safe while enjoying the sun!
