FROM THE PRINCIPAL Welcome back!

World Teachers’ Day You may be aware that today is World Teachers’ Day. This is a time when we can acknowledge the wonderful work of our teachers. We sometimes take for granted the positive influence they have on the children in their care and fabulous classroom learning environments they have established. I am delighted to be associated with such a fine group of educators for without their dedication and commitment Rostrata

would not be the school it is.

And while on this subject I’m really pleased to mention the fact that Mrs Thompson (A4) has been recognized by the National Excellence and Teaching Awards as an inspirational teacher. This is a prestigious

nomination and one which is richly deserved.

School Board Nominations You will notice within the newsletter information regarding our School Board for 2013. This will be an integral part of our being an Independent Public School . If interested I would urge you to consider nominating for

this important role.

School Council Meeting Our final School Council meeting will be held on November 22nd. This will be an open meeting where school community members are welcome to attend. If you would like to take part please ring the office to let us know

you will be attending.

Earn and Learn Thank you for your participation in the Earn and Learn voucher collection. We have 73 000 vouchers to redeem for classroom

resources.

Athletics Carnival Despite the fact our carnival was threatened with unpredictable weather we made it through the day with barely a drop. Miss Vedel organised and facilitated the day in exemplary fashion. The children clearly enjoyed the variety and were very keen to do the best they could for their faction. We had a number of stars on the day who I’m sure will be great representatives at the interschool carnival in a couple of weeks. As important as our champions are all the other children who take part on

the day. Without them we wouldn’t have such a great carnival.

Bandana Day This week the children have been selling bandanas in support of the fight against children’s cancer. It has been so successful that Mrs Giles had to make a dash for more supplies. I must say the bandanas look

pretty cool.

In recent weeks our staff have been focusing on encouraging the children to always use their best manners and continue to be caring and show respect for others. We are also endeavouring to help them become more resilient. At times, with so much happening in their world, we have some children who become despondent or give up when the going gets a bit tough. We want to convince them that it is better to bounce back and have another go and not be upset when things don’t go their way.

Essentially these functions include the following: * Please see included attachment for Roles and Responsibilities of School Board Our School Board will comprise the following members: • 5 staff including the Principal • 6 parents • 1 community representative (someone other than a parent from the school) If you are interested in taking up a position as a parent representative on the board please complete the nomination form within the newsletter.

From the President…

Our next General Meeting will be on Tuesday 13 November at 7pm in the staffroom. Everyone is welcome

to attend and we always love to see new faces.

From the Graduation Committee…

Ticket orders for the Graduation Celebration on December 14 are now due in. If you haven't placed your order, please make sure you put it in the graduation box in the school office on Monday so you don't miss out. If you have chosen to pay online, we still require the completed

order form so please return to office also.

From the Canteen…

Please ensure you are using the Term 4 2012 menu as we use a Summer menu for this Term and Term 1. We have a couple of lovely new items on the menu—a yummy chicken mayo and lettuce sub for $4 and a crunchy tuna salad which has lettuce, cucumber, corn, celery and tuna all combined with a creamy mayonnaise. Delicious, fresh and made by our wonderful staff and

volunteers! A steal at $3.50.

Keep an eye out for Classroom Hero order forms coming

to all families in the next couple of weeks!

We are in need of more volunteers just one morning a term. We are losing a few of our stalwart volunteers who have assisted us for many years as their children move through to high school. Please consider helping us out just a few hours once a term. Call Mel at the canteen on 9354 3332 or just pop in and see her on any Monday,

Wednesday or Friday morning.

From the Uniform Shop…

School Bags— If you would like to purchase a Rostrata school bag, please fil l in the order form which is a available at the front office and place it along with correct money into the box. The bag will be delivered to your

child’s classroom.

Leavers’ Jackets— Fittings for Leavers’ Jackets for class of 2013 will be held near the end of term. Please look out for the note which will be sent out soon. Cost of jacket is

$35 and must be paid on day of fitting.

Willetton SHS Uniform Fittings— If your child is attending WSHS next year, he or she can be fitted for a uniform at the Rostrata uniform shop. From November 2 (Friday) you can pop into the uniform shop on Wednesday

or Friday and Anna will help you with fitting and sizing.

This will be an ‘order only’ system and you will be notified when your order is available for pick up. If you would prefer to take the uniform home with you, please attend the WSHS Uniform Shop on either Tuesday (1-3.30pm),

Wednesday (8 -11.30am) or Thursday (1-3.30pm).

From the Fundraising Committee…

Last week flyers were sent home to all families giving you the opportunity to purchase a personalised engraved paving brick as part of our school’s 30th birthday celebrations. These pavers are a beautiful way to have a permanent reminder of all of the students, teachers and volunteers who have created our school so we encourage every family to become involved. This is also open to all past students and families so please feel free to pass this information on to anyone you may know. Extra order forms are available from the school office. 30th November 2012! Mark this date on your calendar for our last school disco for the year........

IGA and The West Australian are giving all West Australian schools the chance to WIN a share in $20,000 to turn our school’s wishes into reality. Earlier this year our school won $1,000 from IGA so we are very excited to have the chance to win even more much needed funds to improve our school!

To be in the running to win, all we need to do is cut out as many coupons as possible which will appear in The West Australian on Saturday November 3rd, 10th and 17th and place them in the collection box in our school office, each

coupon collected represents one entry into the prize draw.

From the Birthday Committee... Rostrata’s 30th Birthday Celebration and Movie Night is just around the corner. If you haven’t yet purchased your tickets, please be sure to put them in the P&C box in the front office. If you are able to assist on the night with set up or pack down, we would love to hear from you. Also don’t forget to order your Dominoes Pizza and have it delivered directly

to the oval.

There are stil l places available for sponsors to advertise their businesses on the big screen. Please email [email protected] for more information.

OSHC NEWS

Hi and welcome back to school everyone; we cannot

believe we are in our last term for the year.

We have had a great Holiday Club and are really amazed

how word is spreading about our service; we are very proud

about this. A big thank you to the fantastic parents who filled

in our feedback forms and gave us great testimonials.

This Holiday Club we had lots of fun with Connie the Clown,

enjoyed munching on popcorn at the movies watching Hotel

Transylvania, and a beautiful day at Kings Park, just to

name a few fun things, not to mention Camp Australia’s 25th

Birthday celebration.

This term we will be starting our Christmas

preparations, and of course we have

Halloween next week, so watch out for the

black bats flying around our room as well

as spooky Witches.

This week we have started recycling all our

food scraps and have been feeding the

chickens. This is a great project for the

children.

We would like to thank all the parents who donated to our

Puppies and Kitties Fundraiser for Shenton Park animal

shelter. Please log on to their website to see some great

photos of our donations.

Bookings are now open for Christmas Holiday club so

please get in early. Our last day of Camp Australia will be

the 21 December and we will be closed for 2 weeks before

our Holiday Club commences.

The Uniform Shop are in the process of planning the Back to School program for 2013 and as always, our aim is to alleviate some of the long queues and congestion often experienced in January prior to commencement of the new school year. We would like to encourage new, and existing students progressing to higher year groups, to purchase their uniform requirements in Te rm 4 and as an incentive to do this, are offering a the following promotion:

• The promotion will run throughout Term 4, from Monday 15 October to Tuesday 18 December 2012

• All purchases of school uniform over $100 will gain entry into the prize draw

• The draw will take place on Thursday 20th December and winners will be notified by telephone

• All entries from participating schools will be pooled and 3 prizes will be awarded

• ·1st prize $3000, 2nd prize $2000, 3rd prize $1000 • There will also be 1 prize from each individual school, the

winner receiving back the cost of their purchase.

THE GLOBAL EXPERIENCE – LIVE AT HOME

In January 2013 students from over 20 countries around

the world will be arriving in Australia to study at local

high schools for 5 or 10 months.

Opportunities exist for families to act as a host family, in

a volunteer capacity. Hosting can be on a temporary,

short or long term basis. Host families help provide

international students with the chance to study and

experience life in Australia. This is a great way to learn

about another country and culture, establish a lifelong

link to a family in another country and contribute to

international goodwill. If your family can offer a friendly, supportive and caring

home environment, contact us today.
