Positive Behaviour for LearningPositive Behaviour for LearningThis week our Year 6 students will be teaching all K-5 classes about the ‘High 5’ anti-bullying and

conict resolution strategies of ignore, talk friendly, walk away, talk rmly, report and be an

upstander.

The ‘High 5’ expectations are shown below.

The NSW Department of Education’s Anti-bullying site for parents and carers has a step by step guide

and resources for parents and carers for what to do when their child may have been bullied, may have

seen bullying or may have been involved in bullying.

Term 3 PBL Rewards Day MenuTerm 3 PBL Rewards Day MenuOur students are busy and excited in working towards their goals for rewards for Term 3. The PBL

Rewards Day Menu is based on feedback from our K-6 students to incorporate rewards they would like

to see available for the term. We thank our WPS P&C for their ongoing support of our positive behaviour

learning programs by their generous donation of prizes available in the ‘lucky draw’ at the end of each

Student Participation and Leadership NewsStudent Participation and Leadership NewsThis term we welcome our Semester 2 Student Representative Council (SRC) members, who were

inducted in their roles during our Week 1 and 2 assemblies.

The SRC is a group of students elected by their fellow students to represent all students in our school.

The SRC works democratically to represent the student body in school decision-making and organises

ways for all students to participate in school life.

Our SRC representatives for Semester 2 are listed below.

Congratulations to all our Semester 2 SRC representatives. We look forward to your leadership and

initiatives this semester.

Safe Respectful Leaders ProgramSafe Respectful Leaders ProgramOn Monday our Years 4 -6 SRC students participated in a full day student leadership training led by

Miss Alex Jones and Miss Ally Lemon. The students developed their knowledge and skills in leading

their peers in positive playground activities and conict resolution.

The Safe Respectful Leaders Program is a peer led playground leadership program that encourages all

students to participate in activities that support the development of their wellbeing. The program

supports our Positive Behaviour for Learning Framework, anti-bullying programs, student leadership

and participation policy, student physical activity curriculum and the school's student wellbeing and

engagement. Through the program all students are supported to build better peer relationships, social

skills, respect and understanding.

More details about this initiative are available in our Safe Respectful Leaders Community GuideCommunity Guide (pdf 82

Hello from the Library - Term 3 Week 3Hello from the Library - Term 3 Week 3Hello from the Library - Term 3 Week 3Hello from the Library - Term 3 Week 3

Book Week is coming soon!Book Week is coming soon!We are getting excited about our Book Week celebrations in Week 6 – information has been sent home

with details of our school activities (on yellow paper).

The Book Parade is fabulous fun every year and helps to create and celebrate a reading mindset in our

students. Costumes can be simple, home-made or purchased. Costume ideas for our Book Week theme

‘Reading is my Secret Power’ can be found herehere with reading ‘secret powers’ in dierent categories like

the power of knowledge, imagination, dreaming etc. (this page displays better in Google or Google

Chrome).

The visiting performance is always fun, engaging and a valuable learning experience. This year the

performance is called “Big Dreams” and will again focus on books from the Book Week shortlists. The

show’s themes include celebrating our dreams, overcoming our fears of failure and helping others to

achieve their dreams.

While students will enjoy watching this performance for fun, older students will nd it valuable to

think about the theatre skills and techniques involved in a small-scale, live performance. This show has

been highly recommended.

Please detach the back page of your yellow notes, complete the consent form and return it to your

child’s class teacher with a payment of $6.30. Cash, cheque or electronic payments can be accepted.

Wordless Picture BooksWordless Picture BooksOur library has a growing collection of quality wordless picture books which provide for engaging and

deep “reading” experiences as they enable students to “read like writers”.

Wordless picture books are great for early reading and for more sophisticated readers, as they can bring

their own perceptions and experiences to the picture texts. Mrs Taylor and 3 / 4 Aqua have been

exploring this collection and creating their own stories based on the wordless picture books..

Scholastic Book ClubScholastic Book ClubScholastic Book Club Issue 5 orders will be due by next Monday,12th August, 2019. Please note that
