Look What The Lord Has Done

“I will praise You, O Lord. with my whole heart; I will tell of all Your marvelous works,” Psalm 9:1

This summer seemed to fly by, and the flurry of activity surrounding the start of school seemed even more intense than “normal”, but in the midst of all that busyness I sensed the Lord saying “look what I have done.” I began to list all the things that He accomplished, mostly throughout the summer break. I was overwhelmed; He had done a marvelous work. I also had to repent for seeing the school through the lens of what needed to be done, instead of praising Him with my whole heart for what He had done and trusting Him to complete what still needed to be accomplished.

The Lord has chosen to partner with us to complete His kingdom work on this earth. Each one of the items on the list below has a story of someone’s faithfulness to respond to the Lord’s prompting to give of their resources. Those resources came in a variety of ways, and many were completely unexpected. Space does not allow us to tell those stories here, but we are extremely thankful to each one of you who had a part in what the Lord did this summer. Praise the Lord with us as you read what the Lord has recently done.

HIGH SCHOOL RETREAT - August 23-24, 2018

SOUTHERN GOSPEL CONCERT - HUGE SUCCESS

Ernie Haase & Signature Sound

Liberty Quartet The 5 Guys

The evening of August 25th proved to be a very special time at Elyria Christian School. Liberty Quartet (Meridian, ID), and a Southern Gospel favorite, Ernie Haase & Signature Sound, joined together on stage to lead us in a wonderful evening of praise and worship during the 3rd annual Southern Gospel Saturday Night. The slightly different styles of each group satisfied everyone's tastes. The ECS gym was filled to capacity with guests from all over Kansas, as well as some from out of state! Even though the gym became very warm throughout the evening, everyone stayed until the end, not wanting to miss a single song. A delicious meal was available as well as Freddy's custard. Thank you to this year's Junior Class for preparing and serving the meal. The school was blessed by the generous donations received through the love offering. The funds will help with school improvements, primarily working towards a new roof for the West Wing. Thank you to all who helped support this special event through your prayers, attendance, planning, and finances.

Save the Date for next year, August 24, 2019, as we just confirmed Ernie Haase & Signature Sound will be back, and we anticipate Liberty Quartet will be joining them again. We hope to see you all next year!

AND DO NOT BE CONFORMED TO THIS WORLD, BUT

BE T R A N S F O R M E D BY THE RENEWING OF YOUR MIND, THAT YOU MAY PROVE WHAT

IS THAT GOOD AND ACCEPTABLE AND PERFECT WILL OF GOD.

ROMANS 12:2 (NKJV)

Kansas Bible Camp saw another group of ECS students take it by storm at the end of August as our high school retreat invaded their campus again this year. Retreat was a whirlwind experience for all; from the classic Gemmer games (including Alphabet soup boggle, peanut butter and skittles feet, and human tabletop) to StuCo sponsored athletics (stickers courtesy of KBC) to the return of class skits, our students showed their “talents” off at a high level.

For me, the chapel time was the highlight of the weekend. Kicking off the worship time was our student-led worship band who brought the house down with their sets and sound. More than anything else from retreat, I was so proud of what those students brought to the table to set a standard and environment of worship. Particular shoutout to Caleb Froese, 12th, for leading that team, but also to all who were involved in that. Following worship our keynote speaker, Rick Nielsen, brought messages titled “The Words We Speak”, “The Championship Lifestyle”, and “On The Road Again.” Mixing slight of hand with comedy and storytelling with Biblical truth, Rick challenged our students with important life lessons like “the best time to make a life changing decision is before you have to” and “the words we speak make a profound impact on those we encounter everyday, sometimes without us knowing.”

All in all it was a fantastic retreat that set a great foundation for our year…but it could not have been done without incredibly hard work from Mrs. Anne Gemmer, Mrs. Lori Price, Mr. Will Kostelnik, the parents who provided meals, and the staff who attended/drove bus. I

told Mrs. Gemmer that it is so awesome to get to be part of something that is such a well oiled machine. Thanks to everyone for their involvement in another successful high school retreat. - Brandon Roth, Spiritual Life Coordinator
