From the desk of the Grand Knight Brother Knights,

Recent events highlight the need for us to focus on our mission

of defending the Church, as well as those who cannot defend

themselves. During this next year I ask that you pray for our

country, our elected leaders, and the mass populace that takes a

relativistic approach to all matters of life. As we struggle with Satan

and evil at every turn, I ask you to join me as we close each meeting

by reciting the Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel:

I also ask that you please pray for our council as well. As your new grand knight, I pray I can live up to the expectations of all of you. I take great comfort in knowing I have the support of an excellent group of officers, and know that every one of us will work hard in the performance of our mission as Knights.

Vivat Jesus! Scott Gring, Grand Knight

A SPECIAL THANK YOU to Zach Pies, Development Director of Gibault Youth Services—and Dave DeKoninck, State Envoy Chair and board member for Gibault—for making the trip up-state to educate us on the importance of supporting Gibault. It was a wonderful, enlightening presentation.

Chancellor's Corner: Did you know? The Knights established a $6.6 million endowment for the benefit of bishops and priests who are studying at the Filipino, Canadian, Mexican and North American Pontifical Colleges in Rome and those studying at the American College in Louvain. Did you know? The Knights have contributed more than $53 mil-lion to seminarians and postulates since 1981. This is done through the Refund Support Vocations Program and has generated more than $8.4 million in rebates from the Supreme Council to those participating councils. Did you know? Mass Mob VII will be held at St. Monica Parish in Mishawaka on Saturday the 11th of July at 4:30 p.m. The Knights of Santa Maria Council are the force behind the South Bend Mass Mob? They maintain the website, www.SouthBendMassMob, the Facebook page: South Bend Mass Mob, and the twitter account @SOBendMassMob Each issue I will share with you facts about the good the Knights do. Please become more active by attending meetings, inviting a fellow Knight, and by helping us as we help others. Charity is one of our prime missions. Thanks. Know someone who would be a good Knight? Please have them contact me: [email protected].

COLUMBIAN SQUIRES

With so many different types of organizations for

young men in today's world, what makes the Columbian

Squires different? This is a Catholic organization that

builds character and develops leadership. The Squires

program was established August 4, 1925 by Christian

Brother Barnabas McDonald in Duluth, Minnesota. Today there are more

than 1,100 Squires Circles with nearly 25,000 members in the United

States, Canada, the Philippines, Mexico, Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, the

Virgin Island and Guam. The Columbian Squires goal is to help young men

to develop into the leaders of the Church and community of tomorrow.

Their motto is Esto Dignus, Latin for "Be Worthy." Membership is open to

young men between the ages of 10 and 18 years of age.

Santa Maria Council 553 of the Knights of Columbus was the former

home of Fr. Sorin Circle 2, and we are looking to reactivate. We need some

young men to be a part of history as the 2nd oldest Circle in the WORLD

comes back on line!
