Meeting called to order at 1030am by President Ken RothausMinutes of the Annual Meeting July 14, 2012 were read and approved by Therese Ruth, Recording Secretary

Financial Report was presented by Ed Schroeder, TreasurerAchievements during the past year were outlined by President Ken Rothaus: New video equipment, photosof the Center now on the website, advertising in the CHAT and new window blinds in the main room will

soon be installed. Ken acknowledged individuals who worked toward achieving these goals.Vacant positions on the Board were identified, bios for those who submitted same were read by Shelly

Summary of meeting following Annual Meeting July 13, 2013Meeting called to order at 1100am by President Ken Rothaus.

Recording Sectys Report: Minutes of the May 6, 2013 meeting were read by Therese Ruth and approved.Financial Report Ed Schroeder, Treasurer: The audit for 2012 and 2013 still need to be done.

Current total Checking/Savings is $112,656.59 and the Total Assets is $112,954.99The Center has received another donation from Marilyn Harris in an unknown amount.

Therese Ruth was asked to contact Anne Fey if she would be interested in helping with the audit.Fall Sale Chair is Laurie Lee - asking for volunteers for the Sale. Budget for the event is $500.

City Report: We now have a group of local residents, on a temporary basis, who will be coming using theCenter. Their usual meeting place is being renovated.

Website: There are now photos on the sgaac.org website of the Center. The photographer is a local artist,Gretchen Steinberg.

Friends of The Sacramento Garden and Arts Centers: Ed Schroeder reported The Friends has receivedanother donation from Marilyn Harris in an unknown amount.

Club Contact Forms Mary Lou Brennan reported 17 clubs have filled out formsNo further business. Meeting adjourned at 1210pm.

Call to order at 7:10 pm by President Ken RothausDiscussion regarding the annual audit; volunteer requests have not materialized.

Ed Schroeder will call three CPAs to discuss having the audit done on an annual basis and the cost.Scheduling/City Report by Mabel Lotz: Additional meetings were booked by an outside group, a City group,

workshop by Porcelain Arts; 17 meetings for Triple RRR.Fall Sale: Chair Laurie Lee reported application and vendor forms are done and will be mailed out. Cut off

date for applications for clubs is Sept. 10th and for Vendors Sept 25th.Website Coordinator Erica Foster introduced herself. No report at this time.

Friends of SGAC MJ Kelly reported the Friends will be paying half the cost of the new vertical blinds.Demo camera: Wayne Martinson voiced concerns about general use of any new camera and suggested anEducation class be given for all clubs to attend and use of the camera only be released to that individual or

someone else who has been trained.Bench on the parking side: Shelly Berlant reported decision on the bench has been reached and $1100 was

approved for purchase of an 8 ft bench.Refrigerator: John Foster announced the choice of a new, freezer on the bottom, refrigerator; Single door

opening, 22 cu ft, from Sears. Delivery charge $75. John will check into any rebates from SMUD.Monies $1300 were approved for purchase.

Meeting adjourned at 8:40pm.

It's that time of year again … time to get your creativity on! I'll be bringing in clay so you (themembers) can make coil pots. The Club will provide 1lb. of clay. If you would like more you canpurchase more for $5 per pound. Please bring in newspaper and a flat box for safe transport back tomy place. CLEAN UP DAY

Clean -up Day is scheduled for Saturday, September 21st. It is not a holiday weekend,

it is not my birthday, so no excuse. Come and help us do cleaning in the center. We

scrub tables and counter tops. Men are needed to help with repairs to the tables.

Please help us make a short morning of it. Bring your gloves, cleaning agent and

sponge with scrub side. Wear your comfortable clothes.

THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT

If your club has a sale please cover all tables with protective plastic.

There is a roll of plastic located in Mabel’s office. 7

Two weeks ago, the largest native bee kill ever recorded occurred in Wilsonville, Oregon. More than50,000 bumble bees died when 55 linden trees were sprayed with the pesticide dinotefuran (also known asSafari) in a Target parking lot. This loss represents potentially hundreds of wild bumble bee colonies.Incidents like this one can easily go unnoticed, and may be happening frequently. The pesticideresponsible belongs to a relatively new and controversial group of chemicals called neonicotinoids.Neonicotinoids are highly toxic to bees, very long-lasting, and because they make flower nectar andpollen poisonous, there are growing concerns about their safety for pollinators. This year, the EuropeanUnion cited risks to pollinators and banned certain uses of neonicotinoids for the next two years.In urban areas, pesticides are used primarily for cosmetic purposes - to have a weed-free lawn, a blemish-free rose, or an aphid-free linden tree. The risk of losing valuable pollinators, such as bees, far outweighsany benefit of this type of cosmetic use.These products have a wide variety of names (list of names). However, they all have one thing incommon: they contain toxic neonicotinoid insecticides.

To prevent more large-scale bee poisonings, pollinators need your help.

Today, ask your mayor, city council, or county commissioners to: Stop using neonicotinoid pesticides on property they manage. Require warnings be posted alongside displays of these chemicals at hardware stores and

nurseries. Ban the use of neonicotinoids for cosmetic purposes on ornamental and landscape plants within

their jurisdiction (similar to the ban now in force in Ontario, Canada).

You can protect bumble bees and other pollinators from these highly toxic insecticides.

She’ll share her experiences interviewing gardeners and visiting their gardens over theyears. At this special meeting, our club will also be celebrating its 65th Anniversary!

At our Monday, October 7th meeting, from 10 am to 1 pm, our speaker will be Soleil Tranquilli, owner ofTranquill Gardens talking about Feng Shui gardening with inexpensive and simple ways to update yourgarden.
