FROM YOUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR:

Dear Members,

Can it be true? Is it time for the Holidays already? It is always a hectic time of year. Let us help you shorten your Christmas gift list. Know anybody who is 50 or better? Give them a membership to the Senior Center. What a thoughtful gift for only $30.00 ($35.00 outside of the county).

We now have a new sound system thanks to our Foundation. We now have an up to date system. I think it will help us to rent out our facility, and fulfi ll our day to day needs.

We are currently working with a marketing fi rm to let more people know who we are and what we do. We are able to do this because of a special grant from the United Way. You can help us market our center, too. Tell your friends, family and neighbors what a great place we have.

Remember that your 2018 dues are due on January 1, 2018. We have decided to keep our membership fees at the same level as last year.

It has been a privilege to serve as your director for these past fi ve years. I am blessed with a great staff who works with me to help create the best Senior Center I know.

Have a safe, blessed Holiday Season.

Executive Director,Eileen Wiseman, Executive Director

FROM YOUR PRESIDENT:

Hello Fellow Members,

The other day when I was thinking about getting gifts for friends and family, it occurred to me that I already had a good one for everybody, a gift for all seasons.

I’ll tell you all about it because YOU have it too.

No batteries are needed, costs absolutely nothing, is non-taxable, silent performance, fully returnable, relieves tension and stress, helps self-esteem and generates goodwill and one size fi ts all.

By now a few of you have fi gured it out. It’s a HUG.

When you come to the Senior Center, you see them quite often. I’m one of those people here who likes to give and receive them.

Liz, our receptionist, is another good hugger; but any staff member will oblige you with a warm hug too.

Come and get your free gift anytime, not just at holiday time. See you soon.

Happy Holidays and God Bless All of You.

SENIOR CENTER FOUNDATION: The Senior Center Foundation Board held its quarterly meeting on August 18th. There was considerable discussion about the purpose of the Foundation and its relationship with both the Community Foundation and the Senior Center. The Senior Center Foundation was established to invest your contributions in order to ensure continued operations of the Senior Center. Gifts to your Senior Center Foundation are used exclusively for the benefi t of the Senior Center.

So, why do we send your donations to the Community Foundation of Shelby County? The Community Foundation safeguards and holds your investments. Generally, investments held by the Community Foundation yield a higher return than if you were to give directly to the Senior Center. However, the Community Foundation has NO ability to spend these funds. Rather, the Senior Center Foundation, in partnership with the Senior Center Board, hears requests by Senior Center staff and its members and then spends to fulfi ll the unmet operating or capital needs. More recently, your donations to the Senior Center Foundation paid for the new sound system, the new carpet in the Cameo Theatre room and replaced the chairs in the multi-purpose room. We endeavor to invest your dollars wisely and then spend judiciously. If you (or someone you know) wishes to donate to the Senior Center Foundation, please contact Executive Director Eileen Wiseman at 492-5266.
