We enjoyed a smooth start to Term 4. Welcome back to everyone and I hope you all had a relaxing holiday. As the end of the year is rapidly approaching, we need to maintain our focus on our learning goals. Everyday we need to be practicing to ensure we maintain our high level of achievement.
Please continue to read daily. Please continue to revise all spelling and phonics words. Comprehension of our reading material is being covered each day either written, verbal or group pair share. We are continuing to improve our quality of sentence writing. We need to think, talk and write complex sentences. The focus is on using improved openers, adjectives, adverbs and adding a simile. This process is on display. Most boys and girls have achieved the 200 Sitton Reading Words and the 150 Spelling Sitton Words. With double sounds we have covered the Controlled “r” sounds eg, ar as in farm, ir as in girl, er as in Perth, ur as in turn and or as in sport. We are working through our maths in the Prime
Book B. The children are encouraged to do daily Mental Maths and Word Problem Solving. At this stage the focus is on addition and subtraction with and without regrouping within 100. I have included in each students diary some extra at home work they can complete using www.IXL.com. Students will then be able to do maths that reinforce what they are learning in class.
This term our focus is on Protective Behaviour and Behaviour Management. The Superflex programme is also being applied in Room 10. These programmes help students to manage their own behaviour .
This term we have dance lessons and swimming lessons. Dance has already commenced and swimming will commence weeks 5 and 6. Week 9 the school will hold their annual Parent Volunteer Morning Tea for those parents who regularly donate their time to help at our school and in our classrooms. The 23rd of November the school has a Staff Development Day and students will have a pupil free day.

On Tuesday the 23rd of October Wattle Grove Primary School held an Arts Festival. This was a wonderful display created by the students to showcase their creativity in the Arts. For all of those that attended you would agree it was an amazing night filled with sensational performances in Italian and the Choir. Also, there was a great circus attraction which was outstanding. We also were very lucky to have a sausage sizzle, ice creams and a coffee van which was enjoyed by many. Many thanks to all of the parents and students who attended and supported the school on this memorable occasion. . As we are very busy this term with dancing, swimming and working very hard in the class we need to be mindful of keeping up with our incidental practice at home to reinforce students learning. We are all looking forward to the break at Christmas time and also need to keep up our great reading and maths throughout this time. It is encouraged in order for a smooth transition into Year 2 in 2019. A small amount everyday can help in a big way. Please ensure your child has their bathers, towel, goggles, thongs and underwear organised for next week and they are clearly labelled with their name. Thank you
