Page 18: From LARP'ing to Libraries

The rebirth of simplicity

18

Tempting....Story, production and tech: - Can they have a threesome ?

The rebirth of story

Reinventing the wheel

Stories adapt

Proffesionalizing production...

Example: Molgan becomes Molly: SimplicityHas this been done?

© Daniel Chilla, Chillafilm

Page 19: From LARP'ing to Libraries

Framework?We created non-linearity

It was in the air

20

Story at the core of production- Stripped story- Oneliners- Fiveliners - Synopsis - Treatments - Scripts

Problem: The complexity of nonlinearity

Read the f---ing script....

The professionals: Budget

22

Budgeting- How do you budget for an evolving story?- You don’t, you plan!

Same same but different....

Because of NDAs no screenshots or exact numbers:- Estimate- Actual- Correct constantly- Spread the responsability: Each unit separatly- Use exisisting structures/budgets- Be an excel expert....

And so much more...© Daniel Chilla, Chillafilm

Page 23: From LARP'ing to Libraries

The professionals: Other stuff

23

Countries are difficultWhere will the participants go ?They will go where we place the bate!

People are annoyingThey can do just about anythingBut they wont unless your story is indifferent to them

Some problems....

Make the participant count....© Daniel Chilla, Chillafilm

Page 24: From LARP'ing to Libraries

Adaptation: StoryMaking sacrifices:- How many stories can we tell? ONE!- There are only: Romeo & Juliet & Via Dolorosa

“There are only two or three human stories, and they go on repeating themselves as fiercely as if they had never happened before.” Willa Cather

24

The simple story....

So many choices...© Daniel Chilla, Chillafilm

Page 25: From LARP'ing to Libraries

Adaptation: Making the choice

Making the chioce:

- What story and where ?- Adapting to existing structures

Example: MediTV- What is it: A TV-channel or a community?- What is it: a TV-series or some game ?

25

Kill your darlings....my creation = no creation

v.s. compromise = execution

And the enabler....© Daniel Chilla, Chillafilm

How do we communicate this ?

32© Daniel Chilla, Chillafilm

Page 33: From LARP'ing to Libraries

Break - TaskStory is the essential for me. It is the only way that we can communicate with participants, financiers, co-workers, marketing and so on. With story I in essence mean the experienced story for the participant. NOT the written story that is the essence for the writers and production.

During the break I would like you to team up 3 (three) and 3. And pick one of the below topics:

-Participation-Tech-Production-Marketing-Do-goodery

Discuss one of the areas and how the thought of simplicity of story impacts on it. How does the simplicity of story make the topic complex, simple, possible to communicate or even impossible? Pick one or two questions or thoughts that your group wants to share with the rest of us.
