UNICEF and WHO estimate that:

2.4 billion people – one-third of the world’s population – will remain without access to improved sanitation facilities in 2015

1 billion (15% of the world population) still practice open defecation. Diarrhoeal diseases linked to a lack of safe water, sanitation and basic hygiene kills +/- 1,400 children under five every day. This amounts to over half a million children per year. (second largest cause of under-five mortality globally)

1.2 billion people have difficult access to power sources if not no access at all.

Poor water and sanitation result in economic losses estimated at US$260 billion annually in developing countries, or 1.5% of their GDP.
