How does the ‘traditional’ system of assessment fair in today’s world?
“As educators, school leaders, and policymakers, we exist in a world where too often assessment equals high-stakes testing.”

“For too long, the siren song of ‘close the door and let me teach’ has led to a
chasm
between classroom practice and educational leadership.”

“…redirection of assessment to its
fundamental purpose: the improvement of student achievement, teaching practice, and leadership decision-making.”

What is the purpose of feedback and assessment?

The fundamental purpose
of assessment is not to rate, rank, sort, and humiliate students, but
rather to provide meaningful FEEDBACK that leads to improved performance.

What is teaching not ?

“Teaching is not merely the act of
transmitting knowledge, but an
inherently
collaborative, interactive,
and relationship-
based enterprise.”

What is our goal?
We must find “…a sustainable approach to assessment that is not dependent upon political winds or transient legislative mandates. The professional practices and policies (suggested in this book) transcend time, borders, and cultures.”
