El verbo There is/ are.

Life in the Outback
Life is very difficult in the Australian outback,it is an
area of 2,500,000 square kilometres in thecentre of Australia; it is very hot (temperaturesare usually over 30ºC in summer) and thereare no facilities around ; people live instations (country houses or cattle farms)
very far away from any small town. Life ina sheep station is very different from life in a town or in a city; they lookafter the cattle and sometimes they travel some hundreds of kilometres aday looking for their food . There is only one big town in the Outback, itis called Alice Springs. It is in the centre of the Australian Outback. Theoutback is not an empty place; lots of people and animals wander aroundthe plains and hills . The Aborigines live in the Outback and theythink it is the most wonderful place in the world to live, but just try andspend a week out there and you will realize the type of life you can
have there.
