From Ant Farm to You Tube: The multi-media practice of Chip Lord a Basement Films production co-sponsored by The Department of Cinematic Arts, The Department of Architecture, Artslab and Electronic Arts Where: Artslab, University of New Mexico When: September 30, 2016 1pm – 3pm (admission is free and open to the public) For more info: contact [email protected] or 505.916.1635 What: Chip Lord will present a lecture about Ant Farm as well as recent, media work. Founded as an alternative architectural practice, Ant Farm navigated the radical fringe of architecture from 1968 to 1978, and crossed disciplinary boundaries into video, performance, graphic design, and cultural commentary. The collective won a Progressive Architecture Design Citation in 1973 for a ferro-cement house in Texas, and went on to create the Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo. The group then explored video as a way of documenting their performance work which culminated in Media Burn (1975). Lord went on to produce his own video art works and installations. In 2008, along with Curtis Schreier and Bruce Tomb, Lord revisited the Ant Farm Media Van as an interactive digital media device. Chip Lord is Professor Emeritus in Film and Digital Media at U.C. All Seats $8 Chip Lord has partnered with Hayden Pedigo, a young musician and native of Amarillo, TX, to produce a video portrait (with live musical accompaniment) of the wind-swept landscape of Amarillo that begins and ends at Cadillac Ranch.
