Directions:
1. For center panel - following manufacturer’s directions, trace all pattern pieces (already
reversed) onto the paper side of the fusible web. Rough cut out. Iron pattern pieces onto the
wrong side of the designated fabrics listed in the cutting directions. Label pieces as needed for
assembly. Cut out all pieces on the pattern lines. The panel will be assembled in layers from the
background to the foreground. Begin with the water highlights and lowlights. Remove paper
backing. Iron in place where indicated . Add water lilies. Next add lotus back petals and front
petals. Place lotus centers on top of each lotus as shown. Add frog to the large lily pad. Add the
back and tummy details. Add the grass leaves last. Start with pieces with the #1, then #2, #3, and
end with #4. Hand or machine finish all raw edges. This piece used machine satin stitching to
cover all raw edges in threads to match. Metallic gold thread was used to machine satin stitch (3)
rows into a small crown on top of the frog’s head.
2. Fold K1233 1” x 12 1/2” piece in half lengthwise. Press. Make (2). Pin with raw edges
matching to the top and bottom of the quilt. Top with CX7296 1 1/2” x 12 1/2” piece. Stitch both
ends of the panel. Repeat for the sides using K1233 1” x 30 1/2” piece. Tuck raw edge
underneath top and bottom K1233 strip. Trim any excess. Set aside.
3. For one 7 1/2” block - Sew one CM0376 Powder Blue 1 1/2” x 3 1/2” piece to the top of
one CX1791 3 1/2” square. Sew one CM0376 Powder Blue 1 1/2” x 4 1/2” piece to the right side.
Sew (1) K4286 1 1/2” x 4 1/2” piece to the bottom. Sew one K4286 1 1/2” x 5 1/2” piece to the left
side. Sew one K3057 1 1/2” x 5 1/2” piece to the top and one K3057 1 1/2” x 6 1/2” piece to the
right side Sew one CM0376 Celadon 1 1/2” x 6 1/2” piece to the bottom and one CM0376
Celadon 1 1/2” x 7 1/2” to the left side. Make (8) total. Reverse the sequence for the remaining (8)
blocks, start with K3057 Fern, CM0376 Celadon, CM0376 Powder Blue, and K4286 Sky. Make
(8) total.
4. Sew together (4) 7 1/2” blocks top to bottom alternating colors as shown. Make (2) strips.
Sew one to each side of the center panel. Maintaining the alternating pattern, sew together (4)
more blocks side to side. Make (2) strips. Sew one each to the top and bottom of the panel.
5. Sew one CX7296 1 1/2” x 42 1/2” piece to each side of the quilt. Sew one CX7296 1 1/2”
x 30 1/2” piece to the top and bottom of the quilt.
6. Repeat step #2 using K1233 (2) 1” x 30 1/2” pieces for the top and bottom and (2) 1” x 44
1/2” pieces for each side. Pin in place. Set aside.
7. Sew together in order left to right (1) CM0376 Celadon 1 1/2” x 10” piece, (1) K4286 1 1/2”
x 10” piece, (1) K1075 1 1/2” x 10” piece, (1) CM0376 Powder Blue 1 1/2” x 10” piece and (1)
K3057 1 1/2” x 10” piece. Cross cut the pieced strip into (4) 5 1/2” x 2 1/2” pieces.
8. For the right side of the quilt join CX1791 5 1/2” W x 11 1/2” H and (1) CX1791 5 1/2” W x
31 1/2” H with a 5 1/2” x 2 1/2” strip from step #7 between them. Sew to the right side of the quilt.
Sewing the K1233 folded piping in place at the same time. For the left side use CX1791 5 1/2” W
x 24 1/2” H and 5 1/2” W x 18 1/2” H with a striped piece between them. Sew to the left side of
the quilt. For the top, join (1) CX1791 5 1/2” H x 26 1/2” W and CX1791 5 1/2” H x 12 1/2” W with
