2. Decide how much length to add for your maxi. I suggest between 16” (41 cm) to 18” (46 cm). Add paper, redraw the pattern and even out the side seam.

ADD SLIT EXTENSIONS & OVERLOCK

3. Decide how high you want your slit. I suggest right at the cut line, but it’s a personal preference. Add the slit extensions to allow for a double turn hem. I have added 1/4” (0.6 cm), but you can add more. Add a notch 1/2” (1.25 cm) down from the top of the slit.

4. Overlock the side seam and top of the slit extension. If adding pockets, add a strip of fusible interfacing between the notches and finish the edges of the pockets and side seams separately.

5. Prep the hem and slit extensions by stitching a line, 1/4” (0.6 cm) from the cut edge.

PREP HEM & ATTACH POCKETS

6. If adding pockets, sew pockets to the front and back skirts. Understitch pockets.7. Sew the side seams, pivoting at the pocket corners and stopping at the slit notch. Clip the seam allowance above and below the pocket and press the pocket towards the front. Sew bar tacks to keep pockets in place.

8. Press the slit under 1/4” (0.6 cm), wrong sides together. Fold the slit again at 3/8” (1 cm). Pin in place. Edgestitch the double-folded hem in place.

HEM THE SLIT & BOTTOM HEM

9. Press the hem up 1/4” (0.6 cm), wrong sides together. Fold the hem up again at 3/8” (1 cm). Pin in place. Edgestitch the double-folded hem in place.
