GVCA Special Meeting and AGM

The AGM is your chance to find out more about the GVCAs activities and plans

On March 19th the GVCA will hold a Special General Meeting at 700 pmfollowed by the Annual General Meeting at 730 pm Please note that themeeting will be held at Sir Wilfred Laurier CI in room 105A (not at the Churchof the Holy Trinity as previously announced) The Special General Meeting will focus on a number of revisions to the GVCAconstitution resulting from a comprehensive review of the existing constitutionin 2018 The AGM will begin with a business meeting followed by an informationsession of interest to all our members Toronto Police Services will reviewcurrent crime statistics for Guildwood identify a number of crime preventioninitiatives and actionable hints and discuss a powerful tool that revamps theformer Neighbourhood Watch program Then two student leaders from Sir Wilfrid Laurier CI will address the meetingwith a review of leadership and civil responsibility initiatives at the schoolhighlight examples of their involvement in the community and outline potentialinitiatives for the future It will be an informative and stimulating meeting GVCA memberships will besold at the meeting for $15

Friends of Guild Park Fundraising forHeritage Plaque

Heritage Toronto has approved Guild Park for an official plaque to recognizethe legacy of the Guild of All Arts but funding is a bit short and must becompleted by March 18 2019 for the plaque to be installed this year Friends of Guild Park has already raised $5500 toward to the $6500 cost forthis Heritage Toronto Plaque There is $1000 left to be raised Since Friends of Guild Park is unincorporated and not registered as an officialcharity there are two ways to help 1 This Facebook fundraiser is for those whod like to contribute and dontrequire a charitable receipt All funds donated through the personal Facebook

campaign will go toward the plaque After Facebook applies its fees the rest ofthe money goes to the heritage plaque campaign Donations can start at $2 2 Or you can donate directing to Heritage Toronto who is our campaignpartner and a registered charity Donations can be made onlineat httpheritagetorontoorgget-involveddonate NOTE Heritage Toronto requires online donors to specifiy GUILD PARK in theComment box (just before you fill out the credit card section) Heriiage Torontoissues charitable tax receipts for donations of $20 or more

Guild Park Welcomes Senior Walkers

Walk in the Park is coming to the Guild this Summer

Guild Park amp Gardens will be where active seniors can enjoy nature and makeconnections in the community thanks to the new Seniors Walk in the Parkprogram beginning this summer

The program includes a series of eight easy-to-navigate walks through thegrounds and gardens of Guild Park

Friends of Guild Park successfully applied for this program with the support ofthe GVCA the Probus-Guildwood Club Scarborough Centre for HealthyCommunities and the Scarborough Garden amp Horticulture Society

The tours will be free and led by volunteers from Friends of Guild Park Thewalks will each last about 60 minutes and are designed for seniors keen to getoutdoors While most participants are expected to be 65 years or older thetours are open to all community members

Watch for dates and details in the spring In the meantime GVCA membersinterested in taking part can email presidentguildparkca Walk in the Park isorganized by Park People a national charity that brings people and programsto city parks and supported by Manulife

Guildwood Comes Together forColdest Night of the Year

Guildwood locals took a chilly walk in support of Kennedy House

Saturday February 23 Kennedy House Youth Services held their third annualColdest Night of the Year walk in Guildwood 75 walkers from the Guildwood area set out for 2km 5km or 10km walks tohelp raise funds to support local youth experiencing homelessness throughKennedy House Youth Shelter and Kennedy Housersquos After School Program With assistance from an additional 40 volunteers from the area and a second

walk location on the Danforth Kennedy House was able to raise $29000 fortheir programs which serve 350 youth every year at the shelter and 80 childrenthrough their after school program Thanks to support from local sponsors such as Acersquos Place Starbucks JuliaLakats Real Estate Agent Valu-Mart BMO and Toyota on the Park 100 ofproceeds raised by walkers will go to directly helping youth and children inKennedy Housersquos care The event was also proud to host MPP Mitzie Hunterwho went out and spoke with walkers and volunteers about the issueshomeless youth face in the East GTA

Scarborough Centre Focused Review

City staff have initiated a focused review of the Council-approved 2005Scarborough Centre Secondary Plan to guide and support positive change andplacemaking over the coming decades and support the development ofScarborough Centre as a vibrant urban node The intent of this study is to update and further articulate the secondary plan byclarifying and updating the vision planning framework and policies of the planwhile also recognizing the significant investment in civic infrastructure with newstation entrances and a new bus terminal associated with the ScarboroughSubway Extension

Tired of crowded noisy bars on St Patricks Day This year the GVCA hasteamed up with the Guild Inn Estate to offer a special buffet dinner and liveentertainment

walk location on the Danforth Kennedy House was able to raise $29000 fortheir programs which serve 350 youth every year at the shelter and 80 childrenthrough their after school program Thanks to support from local sponsors such as Acersquos Place Starbucks JuliaLakats Real Estate Agent Valu-Mart BMO and Toyota on the Park 100 ofproceeds raised by walkers will go to directly helping youth and children inKennedy Housersquos care The event was also proud to host MPP Mitzie Hunterwho went out and spoke with walkers and volunteers about the issueshomeless youth face in the East GTA

Scarborough Centre Focused Review

City staff have initiated a focused review of the Council-approved 2005Scarborough Centre Secondary Plan to guide and support positive change andplacemaking over the coming decades and support the development ofScarborough Centre as a vibrant urban node The intent of this study is to update and further articulate the secondary plan byclarifying and updating the vision planning framework and policies of the planwhile also recognizing the significant investment in civic infrastructure with newstation entrances and a new bus terminal associated with the ScarboroughSubway Extension
