Our next meeting will be on September 8, 2015 PRESIDENTS MESSAGE I hope each of you is having a wonderful summer vacation. I know lots of members have been entertaining family and friends, going on cruises and traveling abroad. I have some very good news! We will be able to meet at John Wesley United Methodist Church in September! There were some con- cerns that we might not be able to meet due to the bad smoke damage the church experienced last April. Though renovations are continuing, the Wel- come Center will be available for our first meeting on September 8, 2015. More good news! We will be changing venues for our Holiday Charity Luncheon. This year we will be celebrating at the beautiful Northgate Country Club! It seems that many members are ready for a change of venue, and we have listened to your requests. Carol Huddle- ston, Sue Behnke, Lin Fish and Theresa Honeycheck are already working hard to bring us another outstanding charity holiday event. Watch for more details in future newsletters. The new directories will be given out at the September meeting. Many thanks to Pat Quackenbush and Sherry Dunn for their hard work to make this happen. You may send your check to Pat to join FAN. Enjoy the rest of your summer! I am looking forward to seeing you at our September 8th meeting. General Meetings

Meetings are held at 9:30 a.m. on the second Tuesday

of the month, at JOHN WESLEY

METHODIST CHURCH September thru April.

Our next meeting will be on September 8, 2015

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE I hope each of you is having a wonderful summer vacation. I know lots of members have been entertaining family and friends, going on cruises and traveling abroad. I have some very good news! We will be able to meet at John Wesley United Methodist Church in September! There were some con-cerns that we might not be able to meet due to the bad smoke damage the church experienced last April. Though renovations are continuing, the Wel-come Center will be available for our first meeting on September 8, 2015.

More good news! We will be changing venues for our Holiday Charity Luncheon. This year we will be celebrating at the beautiful Northgate Country Club! It seems that many members are ready for a change of venue, and we have listened to your requests. Carol Huddle-ston, Sue Behnke, Lin Fish and Theresa Honeycheck are already working hard to bring us another outstanding charity holiday event. Markett Harkinson President

NEEDLE ARTS LOVERS

If you enjoy any type of needlework (cross stitch, knitting, beading, quilting, embroidery, etc.); hook work (crocheting, hook rug, latch hook, etc.), or sewing (save your hems and other handwork and bring it along) and want to double your fun, come join the Needle Arts Lovers (NAL) group. Our group likes working on projects while we share joy and our latest works-in-progress . We enjoy conversations with other ladies who share an appreciation for Needle Arts. We get together on the first Wednesday and the third Monday of the month from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Prior to each meeting, we will announce where it will be held. If you cannot make it by 10 a.m., just come when you can, even if it is only for an hour. The hostess for each meeting provides beverages, but no food. Sometimes we also go out to lunch. Just sign up at one of the FAN meetings or call Pat Quackenbush at 281-350-0429 or [email protected]. If you want to come to a meeting to check us out, contact Pat Q. Happy Stitching!

FAN Nature Walkers

You will be notified by email when walks are scheduled, usually once or twice a month, depending on weather conditions and on group participation. Please contact me at [email protected] so I may add you to the FAN nature walkers list. FAN Greeters

A big thank-you to all you wonderful ladies who got our 2014-

feel welcome and at ease is essential to the enjoyment of our club.

Movie-lovers chill through the summer!

Monday Matinee-goers aren’t taking the sum-mer off, and we invite you to join us on August 17, the third Monday of the month.

In June, we enjoyed “Love & Mercy,” following outings earlier in the year to catch “Woman in Gold,” “Still Alice,” “The Theory of Everything,” and other memorable films.

To join the fun, send your name and email to Lin Fish at [email protected]. I’ll send a blast email the Friday or Saturday prior to the third Monday, naming the movie, the theater and the show time. We often choose the Silverado 19 on Highway 249 as a central location, and sometimes travel to Market Street in The Woodlands, AMC Willowbrook or another theater of-fering the best choice of movies that day.

Mark your calendar for the third Monday every month and join us for some fun and quality films.

--Lin Fish

ANTIQUERS AND JUNKERS

We always meet on the third Wednes-day of each month, September through May. We do not meet in June, July and August as it is just too hot. All are welcome and if you have any questions, please contact Bert Forbes at 281-304-2444 or email [email protected]

Hey, HELP SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT FAN!

NEW MARATHON DUPLICATE BRIDGE

FAN Greeters The search for greeters to welcome FAN members to our September meeting has officially begun. Although September 8th seems like a long time from now it will be here before we know it. If you would like to volunteer as a greeter please contact me by September third. Our custom of going out to lunch after the general meetings will continue this year. Please sign in before the meeting begins; we’d love to have you join us and get to know you better.

SUGGEST A CHARITY FOR FAN HOLIDAY FUND-RAISER Which area non-profit organization should benefit from FAN’s holiday luncheon in December?

Each year, proceeds from the festive event go to a worthy charity selected by FAN members who vote at a meeting for the charity of their choice.

But first, this year you have the chance to nominate potential recipients! To suggest a charity for consideration, please send pertinent information to Lin Fish ([email protected]) by September 15, 2015.

The recipient organization should be located in FAN’s “service area” and benefit women or children. Include information such as charity’s name, purpose, address, executive’s name and contact information such as email and phone. Enrich the suggestion with information such as your personal relationship or experience with the organization or an anecdote about someone who benefited from the charity’s service.

Past recipients have included Gracewood Children at Heart Ministry, Fallen Warriors Me-morial, Northwest Assistance Ministries, Golden Gatherings Alzheimer support groups, and Home of Hope Texas.

A WORD FROM YOUR NEW TREASURER

Since I am a fairly new member and know we have many new members this year, I just want- ed to take a minute and introduce me to you, and remind everyone that the 50/50 raffle will start back up at the Sep- tember meeting. My name is Sherry Dunn, and I have been retired for six years. I’ve been a member of FAN for four years. I’m involved in four FAN activities: Party Bridge VI, The Lunch Bunch, The Movie Group, and The Wom-en of Mystery Book Club. It’s amazing how many lovely ladies with whom I have made friends by participating in activity groups in which I am interested.

The 50/50 Raffle is an activity that we have available at all the regular meetings. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5. At the end of the meeting, we draw a ticket, and whom-ever has the matching number wins. The total amount of money collected is divided, with one half going into the club treasury and the other half being divided among the winners. At the end of the year what has been raised is usually donated to the charity we have chosen for that year. So, when you arrive and check in at the meeting, you will have the opportunity to purchase tickets and participate in the raffle. You might even win enough to pay for your lunch after the meeting that day!!

Welcome back to FAN and find me at or near the check-in table. We are looking forward to the new, exciting year 2015-16!!

ADDENDUM :

The thing I would like to stress is that, as in the past, in order to make ANY reim-bursements, we will need the reimbursement form with receipts attached, submitted and signed by whomever is requesting the payment. Contact me in case you need copies of that form, or if you have questions. I greatly appreciate your assistance in this matter.
