Kapolei (O‘ahu), Hawaii

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVESAt the end of this conference, participants will be able to:

• Review optimal management of the acutely brain-injured child.• Discuss the current guidelines and management of intracranial hypertension.• Examine the indications for emergent neurosurgery and neurosurgical input in the intensive care unit.• Discuss the essentials in patient care needed for the optimal transport of the brain-injured child.• Recognize and evaluate a victim of abusive head trauma. • Review the use of checklists to increase safety and resources currently available.• Describe the details and challenges of post-resuscitative care.• Contrast old and new modalities available for neuropsychological rehabilitation of the brain-injured child.

Please join us at our second conference, Pediatric Neurocritical Care: Managing the Kritical Keiki II. This year Kapi‘olani Medical Center for Women & Children, Hawai‘i’s only dedicated pediatric hospital, and The Queen’s Medical Center, which has the only dedicated Neuroscience Critical Care Unit and the only American College of Surgeon-veri ed trauma center in the State, are partnering to provide a comprehensive overview of research-based, cutting edge care for critically ill and neurologically injured children. Hawai‘i is no di erent from the rest of the nation in that the leading cause of death in children and adolescents is from trauma-related injury. Physicians and sta at both hospitals work closely together to provide expert care for these children. Being an island state presents unique challenges with rural injury and distant transfers. Our cooperative e orts are re ected in our program committee. Faculty from Hawai‘i and the mainland will cover a variety of topics from acute neurosurgical through rehabilitation of the injured child.

We welcome all healthcare professionals working with this patient population from pre-hospital to acute care to post discharge and rehabilitation. Please join us at the unique Aulani, a Disney Resort and Spa in Ko Olina, Hawai‘i and explore the evolving eld of pediatric neurocritical care. With aloha,

Aloha
