Springer

Springer is an international renown publisher in science, technology and medicine (STM). Springer also publishes books and journals in social science and business.

KeMU is currently accessing springer ebooks on a trial basis up to 26th November 2010.

Springer ebooks - Access

To access Springer ebooks, go to KeMU Library website: www.kemulib.blogspot.com and then click ebooks and select Springer ebooks


Springer ebooks – browsing

Browsing is perusing through a database being guided by the arrangement of content on the website/interface.

Springer ebooks interface allows you to browse by collection, subject, language, copyright year, springerlink date, content type and their combinations

Springer ebooks – simple keyword searching You must know what you are looking for Prepare the keywords that will give relevant

results Then type the keywords in the ‘search for’

box on Springer ebooks page and click go Example: “micro business”


Springer ebooks – advanced keyword search Select which part of the book you want to search Apply Boolean operators Limit your search by category and date Search by author, editor, DOI, Search within a publication Order your results by relevance, publication date, and

alphabetical Example: “micro business” in title and abstract for

2005-2010 in books category ordered by relevance


Springer ebooks – read, download, save and print You can choose to read, download, save or

print. To read click on the title of the book or book

chapter and click on ‘look inside’. You can choose to view full screen and also

to hide thumbnails To download click on the download link and

later on save to removable storage or print


EMERALD EBOOKS


Emerald

Emerald is distinguished publisher of journals and books in management, business, society, and public policy.

We do access 140 selected journals from emerald through PERI.

KeMU is accessing emerald ebooks on a trial basis up to 31st October 2010.


Emerald ebooks – access

To access emerald ebooks go to library website: www.kemulib.blogspot.com click on ebooks and select emerald ebooks

Type username and password


Emerald ebooks – browsing

Click browse books and journals on the left column

View both journals and books or just books Browse by title or subject Click on the title of book series Click on the volume and select the chapter


Emerald ebooks – simple keyword search Type your keyword in the search for box and

select books on the in box then click go Example: “micro business”


Emerald ebooks – advanced keyword search Search for keyword in selected field i.e. title,

abstract, full text, chapter title author etc Apply Boolean search i.e. AND, OR, NOT Limit search by date Search what you have paid for ie my

subscribed content Example: “micro business” in book series title

or chapter title or abstract for 2005-2010 in books category ordered by relevance


Emerald ebooks – read, download, save and print You can choose to read, download, save or

print. To read click on view html or view pdf under

the title on the results. To download choose view pdf .It is the most

recommended format for downloading and saving.

You can choose to print from both html and pdf views. To print in html view click on print view and then select print from file menu

Ebrary is an aggregator i.e. gets ebooks from different publishers and offers an interface for their access.

Ebrary offers academic complete package with more than 47000 ebooks in different subjects from different publishers

Ebrary ebooks - access

To access ebrary ebooks go to library website: www.kemulib.blogspot.com click on ebooks and select ebrary ebooks

Type in your username and password Request for username and password by

sending you name and staff number to [email protected]


Ebrary ebooks - browsing

Browse by subject: click on all subjects and select the subject and then the specific subject and so on

Then click on the book from the results to read the book

and click search ebrary Example: “micro business” Offers limitation by subject


Ebrary ebooks – advanced keyword search Search for keyword in selected field i.e. title,

Ebrary ebooks – quick view

To read the ebooks using quick view click on the title of the ebook from the results section

Use quick view when your computer is not installed with ebrary reader

You have access to all facilities i.e. print, copy, definitions, explanations etc.


Ebrary ebooks – ebrary reader

To read the ebooks using ebrary reader click on the ebrary reader button at the end of the title of the ebook on the results section.

If you are on the quick view click the blue ebrary reader button at the top of the ebook

It opens a new window for every book you want to read, quick view only opens one at a time

Use ebrary reader when you have it installed or you have administrative rights to install it.

You have access to all facilities i.e. print, copy, definitions, explanations etc.


Ebrary ebooks - bookshelf

Save your favourite books so that you do not have to keep on searching every time.

Create folders so that you have related books in one folder

Save the notes you make To add ebooks to bookshelf click add to my

bookshelf on the results section or on the info tools in ebrary reader.


Ebrary ebooks - infotools

These are tools developed by ebrary to help you manupulate information within ebrary ebooks

You are able to copy, print, define, explain, search, bookmark, translate, search within the document etc


Ebrary ebooks - sign-out

When you have finished using ebrary ebooks; REMEMBER TO SIGN-OUT.

Ebrary does not allow the same password to sign in twice at the same time.

We recommend not to share usernames and passwords

ONLINE JOURNALS


Online journals Journals :periodic publications containing

current information from specific subject or scholarly field i.e. business, agriculture, astronomy etc

KeMU has a subscribed to more than 20,000 online journals through PERI initiative.

We access journals via databases prepared by publishers, academic or professional bodies e.g. emerald, Jstor, IEEE etc.


Online journals - access Go to library website: www.kemulib.blogspot.com click

on ‘online journals’ and select the database of your choice

We have described the subjects covered under each database.

You don’t need any password for online journals except for Emerald and HINARI


Online journals - browsing

On the database of your choice click browse by subject or title (whichever is offered)

If there is no browse button, go through the subjects or titles and click on the appropriate one, then to volume, issue, article

Different databases have different interfaces but the procedures are the same


Online journals – simple keyword search Type your keyword in the search box and

click on ‘search’ or ‘go’. Simple keyword will search all fields and will

give too many results. Browse through the results to pick the

appropriate articles or search within the results if this option is available .


Online journals – advanced keyword search Search different fields ie title, abstract, text,

author, publisher etc. Use Boolean operators. Combine keywords and search from different

fields. Limit search by language, date, etc.


Online journals – read, download, save and print To read: select html or pdf format, if this is not

provided click on the article title. To download: click on the pdf format or

download button if provided To save: for html click on the file and select

save for pdf click on the save button or select file and select save if provided.

To print select print from file menu for html and for pdf click on the print button


PAST PAPERS


Past papers

These are sets of exam questions that have been done in the past

KeMU library has a database of these papers accessible online.

Are uploaded after exam period and are accessible immediately

Some past papers are in pdf and others are available in html format.


Past papers – access

To access online journals from library website: www.kemulib.blogspot.com click on ‘past papers’

You have to use computers in the KeMU network to access past papers.

No password and username is required


Past papers – searching

Type the unit code prefixed by ‘all:’ Use a part of the code if you are not sure of

the full code i.e. ‘buss 114’ you may use ‘114’ or ‘buss’

The space in the code is important: ‘buss 114’ is not the same as ‘buss114’

The prefix ‘all:’ must be in small letters


Past papers – read, download, save and print To read for html click on the title of the past

paper. For pdf click on the code or link and then click select the copy you need.

To download just click the past paper code: pdf will always download before you can read

To save: click on the file menu and select save or click on the save button for PDF.

To print click on the print button or select print from the file menu.
