9-11 AM

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have certainly started the term with an extremely busy few weeks. The learning opportunities being offered to the students over the last two weeks have been of high quality and extremely varied!

From cultural NAIDOC activities, excursions and Healthy Harold, to debating competitions, environmental education and kindergarten transition...our students and teachers have covered many areas of the curriculum and developed new skills and knowledge.

Life Education Van

The life education van arrived this week and has been as popular as ever as everyone loves to visit Healthy Harold.

School Photos

School photos will be held in week 4 from Monday 12th to Thursday 15th August. Once again the wonderful ladies at Montage will be taking our photos and ordering envelopes have been sent out. If your child did not bring home a photo envelope, please collect one from the front office. A roster for the photos is included in this week’s newsletter.

Athletics Carnival

The entire school are looking forward to the 2019 Athletics Carnival which will be held next Tuesday 6th August at Donnelly Field. It is the first time our athletics carnival will be held there and I am sure it will be a fantastic day. All students in Yrs 3-6 will go straight to the venue in the morning rather than coming to school.

All students in Yrs K-2 will come to school as usual and will travel down by bus at 11am.

Please come along and cheer on your children and help make the day a success!

SRC Disco

The NAIDOC week disco held last week was a great fundraiser for the SRC. Thank you to Mrs Sams for cooking over 400 sausages!! The SRC raised over $2000 on the night and we thank everyone for your support, especially all our hard working teachers who came along to dance the night away.

NAIDOC week

A HUGE thank you to our Aboriginal Education team for the organisation of this year’s NAIDOC week. I was particularly impressed by the level of engagement from the students and our opening and closing ceremonies were an excellent way to start and conclude the week. A special mention to Miss Aylish Flannery for her organisation of the week.

Debating Competition

DEBATING made an amazing come back at Gunnedah South yesterday!

We entered 2 teams into the Premier’s Debating Challenge, which we hosted here at our school. Visiting schools included, Quirindi, Mullaley, Spring Ridge and Werris Creek. Our South Grey team won both their debates and our South Red team won 2 and unfortunately lost their 3rd.

It was amazing to see the students’ confidence build as the day went on and I look forward to the next round once a date is set.

I hope everyone has a great weekend, spent spending time with friends and family.

With kind regards,

Nicki Walsh

MERIT CERTIFICATES

Yarn Up

With KM

The start of Term 3 has been lots of fun

during NAIDOC week in KM. We enjoyed

acting out the story of how the Kangaroo

got its pouch with Aunty Helen and her

helpers. The story taught us that the

Kangaroo is a very kind caring animal.

Our Year 6 buddies

came to help us with

our Aboriginal craft

making rain sticks

together and learning how to do dot

painting. The students in KM have

been discussing how sharing together

helps us to learn and grow.

LIFE EDUCATION VISIT

HEALTHY HAROLD & THE LIFE EDUCATION VAN IS HERE AT GUNNEDAH SOUTH.

The Life Education program addresses many of the components of the NSW PDHPE syllabus and helps children to develop relationship skills, positive communication (both face to face and online), problem solving and decision-making skills. The primary school modules focus on issues around:

food and nutrition,

personal safety,

physical activity,

cyber safety,

safety with medicine and

safety with legal drugs - tobacco, alcohol and caffeine.
