Prayer for the Week

Ash Wednesday

This week marked the beginning of the Holy Season of Lent. It is a time of prayer, fasting and

charitable giving which strengthens our faith and brings us closer to God and to each other. The

six weeks of Lent remind us of the forty days and nights which Jesus spent fasting and praying in

the wilderness before He began His Ministry. These forty days which we will journey through are a

time of spiritual preparation for the Commemoration of the Suffering and Death of Jesus on the

Cross on Good Friday and the Celebration of His Resurrection at Easter.

As we begin our Lenten journey, let us seek to develop and strengthen our relationship with the Lord as we journey with Him over the next few days and weeks ahead. Let us; Keep hope alive. Dare to trust. Surrender to grace. Reflect love. ··· be humble. Pray always. For all is gift.

Father, your Son Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert for forty days and nights. We pray that we too may be led by your Holy Spirit to use these coming days of Lent wisely and well. Help us to draw closer to you and serve our brothers and sisters through our fasting, praying and giving. We ask this in His name. Amen.

Vocations Information Update #4

On Wednesday 6 March, Mrs Wintle and Miss Stewart went along to Heathfield Knoll School in Kidderminster with 10 Anti-bullying representatives to take part in The Diana Award Anti-bullying Ambassador training. Pupils took part in several activities and played lots of games. The aim of the session was for pupils to come away from the day with a greater understanding of what bullying is, what they can do to support a child who is being bullied and where they can go to for extra support. The day was very successful and the aims of the training were met by all pupils, which meant that they were all given a lovely badge, lots of useful information and a certificate.

Pupils from St Bede’s attended the regional finals of Tomorrow’s Engineers EEP Robotics Challenge on Monday 4 March at Warwick Trident College. All the pupils who took part represented the school brilliantly and worked so hard on trying to complete as many challenges as they could. St Bede’s team started with Lewis W, Ronan O’T and Pascal Z who led the way with the speed challenge, hurtling their robot down the 4 metre course in a time of 1.9 seconds. Brooke M, Bradley C and Finley H’s team then completed the challenge mat tasks for St Bede’s and made refinements to their robot and teamwork skills to improve their score in the afternoon challenges. Finally, Christa V, Maisy R and Katie H led the way with the group’s presentations about the use of technology and robotics in humanitarian aid. Pupils made very good use of their time and had the opportunity to speak to many of the different sponsors during the day. Engineering opportunities for different professional careers were the topic of most conversations. Thank you to @RAFyouthengage who specifically spoke to Noah B and Lewis W.

We all very much enjoyed the day and look forward to bringing our knowledge into the Computing lessons as we now set other pupils in the school some robotics challenges of our own.

Year 7 Basketball

On Tuesday, the Year 7 basketball played their final NBA match at home, against St Georges. Our opponents were much improved since last time we met them and our lads had to be on their game. We started the first half off slowly, with the score finishing at 10 – 8. After half time the boys really started to play better as usual, winning the match 36 – 8 in the end. Well done to top scorer Joe who finished with 10 points. We also had a number of new players in for the doubled booked rugby players! So thank you to Oliver R, Oliver C, Max, Shay and James for stepping up and playing some really good basketball!

Well done also to Joe, Felix, Dhanush and Alvin for all their efforts once again! We wait to find out if the boys qualify for the regional finals.

Earbud headphones in zipper bag or small case as part of recommended equipment

In order to continuously improve our provision for the children at St Bede’s we would now like to

inform you that 'earbud' style headphones (compatible with a computer) in a zipper bag or case

(clearly marked with your child’s name) are now a 'suggested' piece of equipment for all children.

As well as developing independence, the headphones will be useful in some lessons to support

your child's learning, whilst ensuring that highest standards of hygiene are adhered too. Your

child will be responsible for their own headphones whilst they are in school.
