Year 11 UCAS Progress Applications

The deadline for Year 11 Pupils making their online UCAS Progress applications is midnight on Friday 12 January 2018. This is specifically for anybody who is applying to study at a Richmond Borough Sixth Form, including Teddington School, Waldegrave School and Hampton High. This also applies to students making their UCAS Progress applications for Kingston and Richmond Further Education Colleges. It should also be noted, that Sixth Forms outside of Richmond Borough may have earlier deadlines and should be checked before applying. The majority of Year 11 students will have already made an application and may have received their interview dates and times. Francis Kennedy, The Futures Team - Career Adviser

This Week in School

On Thursday 4 January Year 11 students were able to participate in a range of workshops designed to support their preparations in all aspects of effective revision for their GCSE examinations later this year. The sessions were focused on methods for revision and were presented by guest speaker, Michele Miller, an educational consultant and sport psychologist. She draws on elements of performance in sport to inspire students performing in exams. During the day students took part in workshops concerning revision techniques applicable and accessible to all students. These included the Leitner system, flashcards, the concept of Gold, Silver and Bronze standard revision sessions. There were also tailored sessions for students according to their expected attainment discussing concepts such as growth mind-set thinking. The sessions were complemented by an evening event for parents that outlined the best ways to support students in planning a suitable revision schedule, revision strategies and managing stress. On Friday 12 January all Year 11 students will receive their Mock results, in a similar way in which they will receive their GCSE results in the summer. Our aim is to replicate the tension, nervous excitement and resulting emotions caused, in order to invigorate and motivate students for the final run up to the real exams. News from the Sixth Form

PPE Examinations Next week our Sixth form students will be completing their Pre Public Exams—also known as mocks. Both year groups have been working exceptionally hard and for the Year 12 students, this is their first time taking exams at A Level standard. However, for our Year 13 students and subject teachers, this is an important occasion as it gives a strong indication of how our young adults will perform in their A level examinations later in the year. At this time, all students should be revising their subjects in great depth: practising exam questions, completing directed tasks and reading through class notes. If you are a parent of these students, please continue to motivate and support them. They may find it useful to draft a revision timetable if they have not yet done so or exercise and eat right to maintain focus during a stressful period. We wish all of our Sixth Form students the best of luck. The Sixth Form Team Enrichment As Sixth Form students will be on study leave from Monday 8 January the enrichment programme will recommence on Wednesday 17 January 2018. We will be offering a slightly different curriculum this term which we hope will continue to keep our students enthused. Year 13 Citizenship Year 13 students proposed that the school community consider helping others in the West London area and contacted the local food bank. As a result the school has made a collection of urgently needed items for local families who are currently living close to the poverty line. Each year group was allocated specific items to ensure the maximum support to both the food back and the families in our community. Thank you to all students for their generosity and support with this important project.

Teddington School PTA Update

Keep up with the latest PTA news and events follow us on Twitter @teddschPTA or Facebook or come to the next meeting on Monday 29 January 2018 at 7.00pm. Email the PTA on [email protected]

Events for 2018 The two main fundraisers that we are planning for 2018 are the School Quiz and the Plant Sale. These are both popular events—both a sell out in their own way! If you would like to be involved in either of these events please email the PTA. We will need helpers for both events, as well as families willing to assist with advertising the Plant Sale by delivering leaflets and having an estate agent board at their property to promote the sale. If you would like to find out about these events and how we spend the funds that we raise please come to a PTA meeting. Our next meeting is Monday 29 January in Room 101 at 7.00pm. There is a small attendance at the meetings so any new faces are really welcome! Could you volunteer to take the minutes at the meetings? Email the [email protected]

Recent spending of the funds raised The Music Department is now in possession of a new Fender Bass guitar purchased by the PTA. In addition the Media Department have purchased three camcorders with sound input which are necessary for the Year 11 and Year 13 practical productions The photography department have been given funds for the purchase of cameras for use across the department and specifically for the GCSE photography students. The benches that students use in the outdoor social space will also be replaced shortly using funds raised at the PTA Christmas Tree Sale.

Teddington Trading Christmas Edition The latest edition of the PTA classifieds Teddington Trading is now available. 100% of the advert tariffs goes to the PTA funds. Teddington Trading raises a regular and significant income for our funds but it can only exist with your support. This means reading it, circulating it to friends and family as well as using the services or contributing to it! Feedback is always welcome from both contributors and readers. If you would like to advertise please email the PTA on [email protected] with Teddington Trading in the subject line. Please take 5 minutes to raise 50p for Teddington School PTA by completing a short survey. Easyfundraising will donate 50p for each completed survey — that is a potential £850 for the PTA funds. Please use the link above and help us. To date Teddington School has raised £1,936.20 through the scheme. That’s just over £1 per child at school. Get the Donation Reminder and you will receive alerts when a donation is available from the site you're shopping on. It's the key to being a smart shopper and collecting as many donations for Teddington School PTA as possible.

The Boys Under 13 A Cricket Team narrowly missed winning the indoor cricket tournament at Teddington School on Friday 5 January. The overall winners were Orleans Park School. The team members were Ben Barlow, Bhuvnesh Chopra, Jude Emerson, Zain Ikram, Seb Lawson, Freddie Wilkinson and Oli Worrell.

Extracurricular Sports

There are still spaces in some of the Spring Term 2018 Paid Extra Curricular Sports Clubs. These clubs, including yoga, karate, judo, dance and trampolining are delivered by outside coaches and agencies during the Spring Term 2018. This provision is in addition to the comprehensive extracurricular timetable, which includes free sports clubs run by the school staff. Due to the popular nature of the paid extra-curricular activities places available are allocated by ballot. Students may apply for more than one activity and it is our aim to ensure that all students receive an allocation for at least one 5 week block of activities. Priority will also be given to students who did not secure an activity in September 2017. All clubs, except Judo, will start in the week commencing on Monday 8 January 2018. Late applications will be accepted where there are still spaces. The full registers for each club will be displayed on the notice board outside the PE/PA office prior to the clubs commencing, therefore it is essential that all students check this notice board if they have made a late application.
