Hi Everyone,

It is truly an honour to have this position in our school

community. I write this after coming away from one the

largest attended school assembly I can remember in

my last 9 years at Kingsley Park. It is fantastic to see so

many families at assembly and student performances

occurring. This is a great testament to you, our school

community. Thank you.

Congratulations to our outgoing SRC children who have

done an amazing job. We thank you for your time and

efforts and hope you have enjoyed having a say in

what happens in our school. Welcome to the new SRC

children we look forward to meeting many of you

maybe at our council meetings. These children really

have put in many ideas to help improve our school. As

a council we love being able to support and listen to

what our community wants.

We are in need for help in our “Turn Your Frown Up Side

Down” garden – Mr Brand has asked if we have any

Grass/Lawn experts. If there any parents/ grandparent/

family friends/etc involved in this industry or people

who are able to give advice or help with feeding/

caring for the lawn, it would be much appreciated. We

will also require someone with skills to lay pavers in this

area to make a snakes and ladders area. Please if you

have the expertise or time in any of these areas please

contact Mr Brand.

This month our meeting addressed the following:

Parent Opinion survey – is closing this Sunday 9th Sep-

tember. We are grateful to the many parents who

completed the survey. This feed back is imperative for

us and staff to work together on achieving what our

community needs and wants, for Kingsley to be the best

we can be.

Pick My Project – Lisa and Kristy have worked tirelessly

on this and reported that we are in the final stages of

being accepted. It would be great if as many of you as

possible, could vote for our project. The more votes the

better our chances of success. Please feel free to

encourage family and friends and sporting club friends

to vote. You will also see some of us around the school

with iPads ready to help you with your voting. Feel free

to approach any of us to help you with this.

Success of Local leader Grant award – for our new Bike

Ed program. We are in the process of sourcing bikes

and arranging for Mrs Kenway to complete the

accreditation. Will also have to tidy storage areas to

house the bikes. Our new Bike shed is completed which

is fantastic. We have had a visit from the Department of

Education consultants to assess our immediate need for

upgrades inline with Paul Edbrooke’s promise of funds to

improve our school. We are waiting on their report and

approval of which areas they will fund. Arrival of our “Coles - Sports for Schools” equipment :

Thank you to all, we now have team soccer tops and a

top up of our classroom sport equipment for lunchtime

use.

Hall Hire : Approval of KPG Giants to Hire Hall/Facilities.

Once we revise our Hire Agreement keeping inline with

our support of the local community.

Book Week : We approved for the Book Week Dress-Up

Day coin donation to be donated to the Farmers as per

SRC request and for the canteen to run a ‘Parma for the

Farmer’ lunch in which $1 from every Parma roll

purchased will also go to the Farmers Appeal.

Garden Pavers : We approved the ‘Snakes and Ladders’

pavers game for the SRC garden area to be funded from

KPG fund raising.

Enrolments : We discussed the projected enrolments for

next year with increased Prep enrolments for 2019. Our

teachers and students have been visiting local kinders

and childcare centres. This has been fantastic, however

the best publicity for the school is you, our existing

community. Please feel free to talk and share your

experience with parents of younger children and promote

our school. Ask them if they have come in for one of our

tours.

Term 4 Icy Poles : We approved our Year 6 students

selling icy-poles in Term 4 to help subsidise the cost of their

Graduation Fun Day.

Kids Matter Report

Thanks for the overwhelming community support for the

White Ribbon night on the 27/7. Thanks to Donna Fogarty

for the idea and getting the event up and running. It was

so much fun and we raised a total of $287. We are now a

White Ribbon School. We plan to continue to hold events

to support this important initiative.

RUOK? Day will also be recognised with children inline with

Primary curriculum guidelines.

Lunch time activities will continue, children are really

enjoying the opportunities available.

Breakfast club will celebrate its 3rd Anniversary this month.

It continues to be well supported as does toast mornings

Council gave approval of the following activities:

Middle and Senior School Disco 31/8 and Junior school

Movie Night 31/8.

Footy Pie and Wear Your Team Colours Day on the last

day of term. This is a gold coin donation day with funds

raised going back into the school and improving our

grounds.

We are holding a Colour Run on 16th November and the

Carnival for 2019 has been set as 22nd March 2019.

The school council loves feedback. Should any of our

UPDATE

Do you have breakfast each day?

Don’t forget, we offer toast each morning for students who didn't have time for breakfast or

who are still hungry and need fuel for learning. Breakfast Club is held each

Thursday morning in the gym between 8:10am — 8:30am.

Come along and have some cereal, toast, milo and/or juice.

If you are available to assist, we

would love your support. Come along and help us serve our students the

breakfast they need to fuel their day.

Drum lessons each Monday

Unfortunately, Pat Davies our current drum teacher is moving away from the area however, we welcome Patrick Beckham to the program as of next week. There are still a few spots left in Drum lessons each Monday afternoon in the 1:00 - 1:30pm slot or 2:30 - 3:00pm. If you are interested in learning Drums, please collect an enrolment form from the school office.

Counting

Counting is one of the first experiences of maths for young children.

Learning to say numbers often begins with a favourite song or rhyme

and the repetition of the number names. Children will often say the

numbers before they visually recognise and identify individual

numbers.

Here are some activities and tips to engage your child with counting:

Listen for the counting sequence in these songs and rhymes, which can all be found on www.youtube.com:

Five Little Ducks Ten in the Bed 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, Once I Caught a Fish Alive Ten Green Bottles Five Little Monkeys 1, 2, Buckle My Shoe Children will begin by counting all objects in a group,

for example fingers and toes, the buttons on their clothes, steps to the house, or their toys.

As children move on to counting a set of objects, they begin to link each object with one number. In the beginning, encourage your child to touch each object as they say the matching number.

When beginning to count a group of objects, children may need to arrange the objects in a line to help them count. Later they will be able to start counting from any object without arranging the objects.

Once your child is confident, use different numbers as the starting point for practising counting. For example, start counting from 6 or 10. Ask your child to count forwards and backwards. Ask what number comes before, or what number comes after, a given number.

Counting everyday

You can incorporate counting into everyday activities such as:

Cut fruit into six pieces and ask your child to count the pieces.

Count the pieces of toast you cooked at breakfast. Add the total number of cutlery items at the table. Count the number of people travelling in the car or on

the bus. Count the number of houses as you walk along the

street. Count how many steps it takes to walk from the kitchen

to the bathroom. Practise counting when grocery shopping with your

child (for example, counting the number of apples you put into the bag).

Encourage your child to talk about the number of things in the pictures they draw.

Oral storytelling

Storytelling is a great way to extend your child’s speaking

and listening skills, and to expand their memory and

imagination. Either you can tell the story, or you can

encourage your child to tell the story.

Storytelling might be about:

your child’s favourite toy another family member a pet a favourite fictional character from a book or

television program a famous person the work of people from different professions, such

as astronauts, firefighters, nurses and teachers an imaginary world with imaginary characters an imaginary animal that can speak.

Here are some tips to start your storytelling:

Make it exciting, with different voices, puppets, or a finger play.

Have a dress-up box for your child to use for storytelling and imaginative play.

Start with what interests your child. Start by creating a character and a setting.

Labyrinth In The library

On 23rd August the Preps,1’s, 2’s, 5’s and 6’s went to the hall to watch a one man show called the

Labyrinth in the Library.

The theme was that it is very important to read.

It was about a kid named Hugo. When his dad got a computer he fell in love with computer games, but his teacher and parents ordered him to read ‘The Hobbit’, even though he didn’t want to. To add to the difficulty of this, Hugo had a time limit to read

this huge book. The characters in the book were the narrator, Hugo, Hugo’s dad, Merlin, The Golden

Robot, Tink, the Professor Digory Kirke and a few others.

This one man show, presented by author and

playwright Mark Penzac was entertaining because he did all the characters and the lights by himself. Everything was well organised and he acted with

great enthusiasm which made both of us think that he is a very talented man.

Life Education Parent Information Session Monday 17th September 2:24pm - 3:15pm

As part of this visit a complimentary Parent Information Session is offered. The duration of the session is approximately 30 minutes and will be in the Mobile Learning Centre (MLC). This gives parents an opportunity to gain an understanding of what the students will experience during the session.

When is the event and where?

The official start of event is Thursday 22nd November and finishes on Saturday 24th November. RACV Energy

Breakthrough is held in Maryborough which is located approximately 3 hours from Frankston in Northern

Victoria.

Sponsorship

Throughout the year students are asked to approach businesses to gain sponsorship. It is important that

parents assist students with gaining sponsorship as it helps to purchase parts and make modifications to the

vehicles built. Sponsorship in the past has also allowed us to provide meat for a BBQ on one night of the

Breakthrough. Sponsorship can also be cash or items which can be used for our raffle.

The Juniors have been having a fantastic time exploring digital technologies this term. They have investigated programming, by using code to control their ‘human robot’ and the clever little bee bots.

school the ability to communicate information to each year

level, small groups or individual families, at the school's
