In order to prepare the industry for adoption of European EN1090 Standard as Singapore SS EN 1090Standard, the Singapore Structural Steel Society is arranging this workshop to provide information on howthese standards will affect the way structural steelwork is specified and executed. These standards areparticularly relevant to fabricators & specialist builders for structural steelwork.

In this workshop, the requirements of the Standard, including the responsibilities placed on SteelworkContractors via EN 1090-1 and the technical requirements of EN 1090-2 will be introduced. Thepresentation will expand on the specification clauses of EN 1090-2 to address the reasons why therequirements are necessary, as well as special emphasis on the responsible welding coordinator (RWC).

Execution to EN 1090 has been mandatory in the UK since 2014, so considerable experience has beengained in the application of the Standard, which is to be adopted in Singapore. The course will includeobservations based on the experience of steelwork contractors and steel designers in the UK, how bestpractice is demonstrated and the issues that must be addressed as EN 1090 is implemented.

After graduating with Diploma in Analytical Chemistry in 1999, Niresh joined theSouth African Pulp and Paper Industry (SAPPI) in the capacity of Research Chemist.Based at the SAICCOR Mill in South Africa, Niresh was involved in research anddevelopment activities relating to Cellulose Acetate and Viscose. During his employwith SAICCOR, Niresh also completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry in 2004.Having worked at SAICCOR for just over 9 years, Niresh decided that it was time for acareer change and relocated to the United Kingdom. Niresh was employed by BMTRADA in 2007 and currently holds the position of Principal Technical Officer. BMTRADA is a Notified Certification Body and Technical Assessment Body under theConstruction Products Regulation (CPR). In addition to managing the BS EN 1090 CEMarking Scheme for Structural Steel, Niresh also represents BM TRADA on variousEuropean Committees and Sector Groups, such as The European Organisation forTechnical Assessments (EOTA), Group of Notified Bodies (GNB), Sector Group 17(Structural Metallic Products).

S. Naskar was a first class graduate for B.E. / B.Tech in Metallurgical Engineering. Hehas over 14 years of experience with several MNCs in the field of welding,materials, technical consultancy, NDT, heat treatment, and metallurgy for oil & gas,shipbuilding, power plant industries. Naskar had hands-on experience in leadingefforts across Metallurgical practices of welding, testing & heat treatment, failureanalysis through a team of well equipped & skilful professionals. He was a weldingengineer for special steel, welding consumables, oil & gas, power, energy, chemical,pressure vessels & boiler and familiar with AWS, ASME, API, NACE, BS EN standardsto clients like SHELL, Petronas, MODEC, Exxon Mobil and more. To expand hisqualifications, Naskar went on to pursue an International Diploma in WeldingEngineering (IWE) and European Welding Engineer (EWE) from InternationalInstitute of Welding (IIW) & TWI, UK in the year 2017. He had also obtainedcertification to be a Certified Welding Inspector from the American Welding Societyon 1st January 2009.
