Penalty Disappointment in Swindon

Kingdown U13s travelled to the annual Swindon Town tournament. The girls were determined to finish better than last year’s 3rd place finish (losing on penalties in the semi-final). Kingdown started well playing a tough Dorcan Academy team. Ashleigh Powell made a lovely solo run from the half way line and neatly finished into the bottom left corner away from the goalkeeper (1-0). Abigail Dodman, Nicole Pugh and Rebecca Guy managed to soak up some pressure from Dorcan's attacking players. In the final few minutes, Abigail took a quick goal kick through to Rebecca who ran with the ball down the right before shooting, crossing and Kacey Watkins tapped home (2-0).

Our second game was against new opposition, Bradon School. Evie Spratt (captain) sent a long ball across the pitch to an unmarked Rebecca who finished into the bottom left (1-0). Ashleigh challenged the keeper by sliding in and winning us a corner, which saw Kacey side footing into the roof of the net (2-0). Evie worked hard down the right hand side before forcing the goalkeeper to make an excellent save, but only managing to push the ball into Cameryn Stewart's path, who tucked home a goal (3-0). Poppy Braddell saw her excellent shot saved, resulting in a corner. Evie sent the ball in high, which hit a defender’s hand, everyone looks to the referee who played advantage - as did Evie, who picked the ball up on the left and finished neatly under the goalkeeper (4-0).

Our final group game saw us face a well drilled Lydiard Park team. Evie back defending well and got a pass through to Ashleigh who passed a ball into Rebecca's path, who side footed it home (1-0).

Kingdown made the semi-final vs Lydiard Parks second team. Evie took a long throw in, which found Ashleigh who out muscled a defender before finishing well (1-0). Evie then slipped over but managed to recover and puts Ashleigh in again; she got herself in front of the defender before scoring again (2-0). Cameryn fired a shot towards the goalkeeper who cannot handle the power and sees the ball squirm through her legs (3-0). Kingdown make the final!

The (other) hardest team in the tournament were our opponents, The John Bentley School. This game saw us retreat and allowed them to continually attack us; they played the ball long to a lone striker who played for winning set pieces (corners and throw ins).

Kingdown were being outplayed, but were handling the pressure well (some excellent defensive covering from Nicole). Poppy found herself open numerous times on the left, but we couldn't get the ball to her. The game goes to Golden Goal and Kingdown miss a glorious opportunity with a shot pulled wide by Kacey. It's now time for penalties. John Bentley score their first, Kingdown miss theirs (keeper saving). Abigail saves John Bentleys brilliantly to her right. Kingdown miss their second too (hitting the post) but unfortunately John Bentley score their third, winning 2-0 on penalties. Some outstanding football girls, well done! Better than last year and we will win it next year! Team: Evie Spratt (C), Abigail Dodman, Poppy Braddell, Kacey Watkins, Cameryn Stewart, Nicole Pugh, Rebecca Guy and Ashleigh Powell.

The Main School Car Park

The car park at the front of the school is a very busy area where staff and commercial vehicles are manoeuvring. It is not a safe place for students to walk across.

Parents are asked not to use this area as a drop-off, or pick-up, point for students.

The support of parents in keeping our students safe is appreciated.
