Find It AlmostAnyw here
They CanDONITA MATHESON
Campus Living EditorSleep Is where ' you find it - and
UF s tude ntsa fined it almostanywhere.
It's almost js if college nurtures, tudents into "walking zombiemachines"' that stagger aroundcampus each day fighting to stayawake before they run down andtheir 'spring Is sprung.''
Some students make it past themorning hours untllthey can refuelat lunchtime and possibly increasetheir energy. Others are not aslucky.
The campus knows no limits tothe heavy eyelids and noddingheads. It can happen anytime andany place. . .the library, thecla&.sroom. the bathroom, standingin line for football tickets, walkingacross campus, or swimming 100laps across the pool.
Rut what causes this 'sleepthatknits up the ravell'd seave of care, the death of each day's lit.?"
Is It sheer exhaustlonthat weighsthe eyelids down and steeps thesenses in forgetfulnes&? Perhaps
catch a few catnars auring a DULLlecture by a DULL professor whohas a DULL voice, or maybe itsthe atmosphere of dim lights and asoft easy chair beckoning to yourweary bones in the sleeping - er.browsing room of the library.
This atmosphere is somethingflew for students. These days youdon't have to tide in shame ifyou fall aslp and snore so loudthat you wake up everybody else.To ease your conscience -- youcan have a partner sitting nextto you, in separate compartmentsof the '"browsing" room, and bothof you can throw back your head, take off those shoes, and go to Itman In unison.
The humor In life comes fromwatching students in class who aresI.py and don't want the professorto know it.
Alter the first three ortournodsof the head and you doze intooblivion --you decide somethinghas got to be done or the professormight boot you out of class onyourear (which maay be a lucky break).
So. first 01 all, rine Lent hand
rests there to give all appearances
like you're a real diligent soulusing your right hard as a propon your paper. From there It's allup to you. .and you're free asa bird to sleep.
Some students hold the rigbteye wide-open on the side wherethe professor is lecturing but sleepwith the left eye closed.
But It seems such shifty tacticsare not the trend anymore exceptIn the groups that "aren't withit.' These days students get tothe finale (a deep, slumberingcoma) immediately and make rcbeans aboht a professor seeingthem. They plop their heads downon those hard desks and never gainconsciousness until that shrill bellsounds in their inner ear. In someclasses professors have acceptedthis system and continue to lectureto the six or seven comradesleft sitting in an erect poslitoo.
But, students take heart.Recent research has proven that
professors are weakening underthe strain and have fallen asleepin the faculty lounges a couple of

Footbal ForecastIn the nation before the Crimson Tide finally ascended
the throne. .Alabama, holding a power quotient of 109.5, is now Number One. Notre Dame slipped backto close second with a power reading of 108.8, while Michigan moved from '7th into the third positionvacated by Ohio State.
Duke and Oregon were the only two teams to fall from the good graces of the top group, but there wasmuch noisy scrambling for position after some of last week's upsets. The two newcomers to the TOp 20made no bones about moving in, and movinghighl Three-time loser Michigan State, just outside the powergroup all fell, busied itself right up the ladder to seventh, while Penn State, with a 4-4 record, elboweditself up to 11th.
Thi, top ranked Crimson Tide has had to face Florida and L.S.U. on previous weekends. . now theyrun smack dab into 16th-ranked, once beaten Ge(,rgia Tech. It's Alabam' Again, but close. The YellowJackets will lose their second in a row, this one by II points.
Irish wise, things were tough enough last week. but Notre Dame might just find it rougher againstthe 7th-rated Michigan State Spartans. So hold the phone while I slip on the old bifocals to figure this one. It'll be a real tea-party. . .the Irish will win bj only four.
Third-ranked Michigan shuttles into Iowa City this Saturday. The Iowa Hawks have been tough eatingbor everybody this fail, and Michigan will be hard pressed to come out with a 13 point win.
The old forecastizggaverage seems to run on a broken record - gets no better but gets no worseeither. List week. thee were 126 games picked right and 39 mistakes for. .764 average. So, out ofI ,339 games foreeAht this fall disregarding ties, lO23have been correct and 316 should have been pickedliht other way. flbis maIntalns our .764 average.
In fourth, the Racorbacks of Arkanbas. They entertain S.M.U., and the table fare will be wild horse-meat! The Mustangs become victim *9 the Flogs winning by 20 points.
Sitting on Tiatlonal football chair #5, the Cornhusking Nebraskans from Lincoln will "whup"' theOklahoma State Cowboys by 17 poInts this Saturday.
6th-ranked Texas will hold onto their next to the t op spot In the Southwest Conference with a two-touchdown win over T. Oregon State, #8. runs into a band of Stanford Indians, but should handlescalping duties by tbout six points.
Ohio Slate dropped down to 9th,, but the Bucks are IS points to., strong for Northwestern.
