American Concrete Institute(ACI)
Presented by - Abdul Fattah Barakzai
Required Tests:
Slump Test ASTM C 143
Temperature ASTM C 106
Air Content ASTM C 173
Compressive Strength ASTM C 31
Slump Test:
a. Definition:
Slump test is used to measure the consistency
and workability of fresh concrete.
b. Equipment:Slump Cone
Base Plate
Steel Rod
Scoop
Funnel
Brush
C. Procedure:Fill the slum cone in three layers
Give 25 blows to each layers
Level the top surface
Remove the slump cone vertically within
3 – 5 sec
Measure the collapsed height in mm from top
C. Procedure:
Temperature Test:
a. Definition:
Temperature test is required to determine the
temperature of fresh concrete at site.
b. Equipment:Thermometers (Manual or Digital)
Accuracy ± 0.5C°
C. Procedure:Penetrate the thermometer in fresh concrete
sample at least 75mm.
Leave the thermometer for 2 minutes in fresh
concrete
Take reading with accuracy of 0.5 C°
C. Procedure:
Air Content Test:
a. Definition:
Air content test is required to determine the
percentage of air content in fresh concrete.
b. Equipment:Air meter
Flask
16mm Rod
Straightedge
Water Bowel
C. Procedure:Fill the air meter bowel in three layers from
fresh concrete
Give 25 blows to each layers
Level the top surface
Put the cover and adjust the air gage to zero
Fill the empty space with water
Open the valve of air meter and measure the
air content
C. Procedure:
Compressive Strength Test:
a. Definition:
This test is required to determine the
compressive strength of fresh concrete
while hardened after 7, 28 and 90 days.
b. Equipment:Cylinders
16mm Rod
Straightedge
Scoop
Funnel
Base Plate
C. Procedure:Lubricate the inner side of cylinder with oil
Fill the cylinders in three layers from fresh
concrete
Give 25 blows to each layers
Level the top surface
Cover the surface with vapour barrier
Remove vapour barrier after 24 hrs and put the
cylinders in moisture room
