Handheld GPS/GSM Tracker GH120x FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ) v1.5 rev.05

This is minimal GH configuration for Web Application. All other parameters can be asdefault.

After configuration is done, put device in the place with a good sky visibility. Device willstart looking for the GPS signal from the satellites. After good signal is received, device willcalculate coordinates and will send it to the Server. With the configuration describedabove, device will collect and will send coordinates to the Server every 30 seconds. If datatransfer was successful – in Web Application you will see the results (position on the map).

If GPS signal is poor and coordinates are not calculated – there won’t be any data transferthrough GPRS. In this case, you can start Alarm function and device will send data to theServer even without coordinates.

1.4. Can I connect GSM modem to GPS Assistant and receive data from GH120X throughGPRS?

No. When GSM modem is connected, GPS Assistant communicates with GH120X onlythrough SMS, but not through GPRS.

1.5. What is minimal time period for coordinate’s transmission through GPRS?

GPRS Send period can be set to 5 seconds or more. It will guarantee that datatransmission will be done without problems. Parameter can be set even less than 5seconds, but then there can be delays if device is busy with other tasks.

2. GH120X FUNCTIONALITY

2.1. How can I use NMEA function?

When NMEA function is started, GH120X sends NMEA code to the USB output. NMEAfunction works only when device is connected to PC through USB cable. If cable will beunplugged – function will stop automatically. This function helps to analyze how GPSreceiver is working or shows device position on mapping software real-time.

For GPS receiver evaluation you can use VisualGPS or any other software which isparsing NMEA code.

For real-time positioning you can use any mapping software, which supports NMEA codeparsing (i.e. MS Autoroute, MS Map Point, etc.).

2.7. What time formats are used in GH120X?

GH120X is operating with GMT time. Tracker gets Time value from GPS signal, stores it inthe memory and sends through GPRS to the Server in GMT format only.

On the Server side GMT time should be recalculated to Local Time and shown to the user.

Local Time can be send through SMS only. Time Zone value must be set in GPS Assistant(Advanced Configuration Main General Time Zone). This parameter will besaved in GH120X configuration.

By default in SMS Protocol, GMT time is set for transmission. In order to get Local Time –SMS Protocol settings must be changed. Instead of Time:<time> parameter, parameterTime_Local:<local_time> must be set. After these changes by SMS you’ll receive

coordinates with Local Time.

All points stored in the device memory also are with GMT time. In order to see Local Timein GPS Assistant application, Time Zone value must be set (Tools Options Misc Time offset):

Now all from device downloaded points in GPS Assistant application will be seen withcorrect Local Time.

There are three types of points:• Regular points• Track points• Alarm points

All three types of points are stored in different memory places and can be collectedsimultaneously. All three functions works independently from each other.

• Regular points

Regular points are collected automatically by set period of time. They also can be sentautomatically to the Server by set period of time. Function starts after device is started andworks unlimited period of time.

Parameters:2/4 GPS position acquire time – period of time, how often calculated coordinates will besaved in to device memory.6/4 GPRS send period – period of time, how often collected points will be send to theServer.

• Track points

Track points will be collected only when Tracking function is activated. Tracking functiondoesn't send Track points to the server automatically. Data transfer to the server must bedone manually (by SMS, by button press or by “Action on Call” function). Function worksperiod of time set in 3/2 parameter. If 3/2 value is 0 (zero) – started function will work untilit will be stopped or device restarts.

Parameters:3/1 Track update interval – period of time, how often calculated coordinates will be savedin to device memory.3/2 Track logging duration – period of time, how long Track function will be active.
