How will I recognize the BayArea Freeway Service Patrol(FSP)?

All Bay Area FSP trucks are white and displaythe easily recognizable blue and yellow FSPlogo. Their drivers wear blue uniforms with theFSP logo.

Is there a number I can call forFSP service?

There is no need to request service since FSPdrivers roam the freeways looking for motoriststo help during the hours and on the routesspecified in this brochure.

Are the Bay Area FreewayService Patrol drivers certified?

Yes. Drivers receive their certification aftercompleting a CHP training program.

Are there any costs or tipsinvolved?

No. Drivers are not allowed to accept anycompensation for their service.

Will the Bay Area FreewayService Patrol tow me to aprivate repair facility?

No. The Bay Area FSP can tow vehicles only to CHP-identified locations. FSP drivers areprohibited from recommending tow servicecompanies, or repair or body shops.

Where do the Bay Area FSP tow trucks operate?

As shown on the map in this brochure, thetrucks operate on approximately 550 miles of the Bay Area’s most congested freeways andhighways.

Questions & Answers Keeping theBay Area Moving

The Bay Area Freeway Service Patrol is composed of specially trained tow truck drivers who:• continuously patrol designated

Bay Area freeways

• help stranded motorists

• keep traffic moving.

The roving tow trucks• cut down on traffic jams by quickly

clearing accidents and other incidents —the cause of more than 50 percent oftraffic congestion

• through quick response, reduce thechance of further accidents andbottlenecks caused by impatient driversand gawkers

• help save fuel and cut air-pollutingemissions by reducing stop-and-go traffic.

Typical responses from motorists helped by FSP:• “My car stalled and I was terrified, but FSP

came to my rescue and got me out ofdanger’s way.”

• “The white FSP truck pulled up within justminutes of my car breaking down.”

• the Metropolitan TransportationCommission (MTC) Service Authority for Freeways and Expressways (SAFE)

• the California Department ofTransportation (Caltrans)

• the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

The Bay AreaFreeway Service Patrol Is Here to Help

If you have car trouble while on the freeway, theBay Area Freeway Service Patrol can assist youwith the following, FREE OF CHARGE:

changing a flat tire

“jump starting” your car

taping hoses and refilling your radiator

giving you a gallon of fuel.

If the Bay Area Freeway Service Patrol cannot getyour automobile running within a few minutesby providing the above services, it will tow yourcar, absolutely FREE OF CHARGE, to the nearestCalifornia Highway Patrol-identified location offthe freeway.

If needed, the Freeway Service Patrol driver willtransport you to the nearest pay telephone, orcall the California Highway Patrol to requestadditional assistance for you.

and always keep your car in sound mechanical condition.
