Introduction• I want us today to briefly look at an example

from the American Revolution and apply it to our Christian lives.

• Then, I want us to consider our own spiritual liberation from our enemy. How important is it, that we are free?

American Revolution

• The British controlled the Colonies in the New World and they began to become more forceful as the colonists began to seek independence.

Intolerable Acts

• The British finally came up with what came to be called the Intolerable or Coercive Acts.

Intolerable Acts • Impartial Administration of Justice Act, which

allowed the royal governor of a colony to move trials to other colonies or to England if he feared that juries wouldn't judge a case fairly

• Massachusetts Bay Regulating Act made all law officers subject to appointment by the royal governor and banned all town meetings that didn't have approval of the royal governor

Intolerable Acts

• Boston Port Act, which closed the port of Boston until the price of the dumped tea was recovered, moved the capital of Massachusetts to Salem.

• Quartering Act, which allowed royal troops to stay in houses or empty buildings if barracks were not available.

Will We Be Free from Satan’s Control?

• Romans 6:7-8; Romans 5:8-9• We have no reason to return to bondage to

Satan. Stop letting him ruin our lives! • Ephesians 4:27, “Give no place to the devil.”• James 4:7, “Therefore submit to God. Resist

the devil and he will flee from you.”

• “Resist” has a “military connotation, and was frequently used of those who placed themselves in battle array against an enemy and held their ground.”

• “All is at stake in the effort; and the issues are life and death.”

• “There can be no armistice, no terms of amnesty.”
