SECONDARY

1. Correct uniform, as determined by the Principal, is to be worn at all times and it must be kept clean, well pressed and in good condition. School shoes are to be well polished and white

sports shoes to be kept clean. The soles of sports shoes must be such that they do not mark the floor of the Hall/Gymnasium.

2. Minimum summer dress and winter skirt length for girls must be such that it at least reaches

the knee. 3. Shirts should be tucked into shorts, skirt or trousers.

4. On occasions, boys may be required to wear ties in summer. 5. Students are not allowed to wear sports uniform to and from school. Permission may be given

only under exceptional circumstances. Any student wearing their sports uniform to school must present themselves to Mr Pennycott before the first bell with a signed note from a parent.

(Students are also not allowed to arrive at school or leave from school in clothes which are not

school uniform). 6. Black leather lace up shoes are to be plain. Please see note regarding shoes at end of Uniform

Policy. 7. In cold or wet weather, students may wear a dark green School shower proof jacket and/or a

School jumper.

8. A Frederick Irwin school bag must be used to carry books and other personal property to and from school. No other bag is permitted.

9. Students require a school sports bag to carry their sports uniform. 10. Children cycling to school must wear correctly buckled up approved helmets (gold or white

preferred) and bikes must be roadworthy. Bike racks in a secure compound are provided and bikes should be locked in the racks. In the interests of safety, "double dinkying" is not

permitted.

11. All items of clothing/personal equipment must be clearly labelled with student’s full name. 12. In Summer, girls white turnover top socks should be fine weave ankle length, not long socks

pushed down, or thick weave sports crew socks. Boys wear short school socks, not long socks pushed down.

13. In Winter, Secondary girls wear 70 denier black tights. Boys wear short grey school socks.

14. When the tie is worn, all buttons of the shirt should be kept done up, and the tie tightened around the collar.

15. A school blazer is a compulsory item of the School Winter uniform for Secondary students (from Year 7-11 in 2015 and 7-12 in 2016). Students must wear the Blazer when they are

outside of the School, to and from School, for Chapel, Assembly and other services. They may

wear them at other times during the school day or they may hang them in their locker. 16. Students are not permitted to alter or enhance their appearance by any artificial means. This

includes, but is not limited to, the following: hair extensions, eyelash extensions, fake tans, false nails or hair colouring of any description.

17. Hair must conform to the Student Hairstyle Policy as detailed on the following page. 18. No jewellery is to be worn with the school uniform except: a watch (not ornate); girls with

19. Make-up and nail polish are not permitted. Wearing make-up is considered a wilful infringement of the Uniform Policy. As such, a student will be required to remove the make-

up and will automatically be given a Wednesday detention. Repeat offences will result in

further, more serious, disciplinary action. Fingernails must be kept short. 20. Students are not permitted to have any tattoos that are visible, nor are they permitted to have

any visible body piercing including tongue piercing (except pierced ears for girls).

Parents will be notified of a student’s failure to observe the above uniform requirements and

We ask you to help us ensure that all students adhere to the Uniform Policy. We regularly

receive compliments about the presentation and conduct of our students and thank you for your continuing support as we work together to maintain these standards.

Student Hairstyles

The policy on student hairstyles is as follows:

1. General Principles: for all students Hair should be clean and kept neat and tidy

Hair should be the natural colour - no tints, dyes, rinses, no hair extensions etc. are

permitted

Hair styles should be tasteful and conservative.

2. Girls’ Hair

Girls with hair longer than the top of the shirt collar must have it tied back in either a pony

tail, bun or plait(s) using dark green ribbons, dark green scrunchies, or plain black thin elastic. A hair band is not sufficient. In addition to above ribbons, scrunchies etc., hair

combs can be used but they must be clear, black or brown.

Girls with hair shorter than the top of the shirt collar must not allow it to hang forward

when they are working. The hair should be kept back with black, clear or brown hair combs or a plain dark green band.

Any scrunchie, hair band, hair slide, hair comb, or hair clip etc. other than those

mentioned above is not permitted. (Please note: black scrunchies are not permitted, nor are silver clips).

Fringes are acceptable but they must not hang over the eyes, or hang across the face, or

interfere when a student is working. Fringes should not extend past the centre of the forehead.

Fringes should not be ‘trendy’ nor require the use of ‘gel’ to keep them in place. Gel,

mousse or wax is not permitted.

Hanging locks of hair in any form are not permitted.

3. Boys’ Hair

Boys’ hair should be kept short and above the top of the shirt collar.

Fringes should not hang across the eyes or face, nor should they interfere when a student

is working. Fringes should not extend past the centre of the forehead. Hanging locks of hair in any form are not permitted. Gel, mousse or wax is not permitted.

Hair should not be excessively layered, and the contrast between the shorter layer around

the lower part, and the longer upper part should be kept to a minimum. For example, a

very short lower and a longer and/or thicker top part is not acceptable.

Flat tops, undercuts, tracks or any other patterns in the hair are not permitted, nor is

excessively short hair acceptable. Boys’ faces should be clean shaven. Sideburns should not extend beyond the centre of the

ear.

The acceptability of any hairstyle is at the discretion of the Principal, and students will be expected to

adjust their hairstyle without question.

The Uniform Policy on student hairstyles applies for the whole of the time students are in school

uniform, in sports uniform, at any school function in school uniform or at any other time, as directed by the Principal, whether it is on the school property or not.

Page 10: Frederick Irwin Anglican School - Amazon S3s3-ap-southeast-2.amazonaws.com/juicebox-fias/wp... · Hair styles for both boys and girls should be neat and conservative. 4. Girls with

Frederick Irwin Anglican School Uniform Policy

Page 8 Version: January 2015 Approved by School Council: March 2013

Altering hair colour is considered a wilful infringement of the Uniform Policy. As such, a student will

automatically be given a Saturday detention. The student may be sent home and not allowed to return until their hair is returned to its natural colour. Repeat offences will result in further, more

serious, disciplinary action.

Hair tints, dyes and rinses that claim to ‘wash out after eight washes’ invariably do not. As such, the

student will be subject to the same consequences.
