Term 4 Week 2 Thursday 25th October, 2018
Fete What a wonderful fete we had on Sunday! I personally had a great
time and thought it was a very positive and happy day for our
school and community. Congratulations to our fabulous Ukulele
group on their performance. We have some great singers. Thank
you to our teachers who gave up part of their Sunday to run our
school stalls. Most of all congratulations to our wonderful,
persistent and hardworking P&C who have ploughed on through
many difficulties to make the fete happen. A couple of my
favourite people had a great day and I hope yours did too.
.
Fred Hollows Humanity Awards I was very proud to attend the Fred Hollows Humanity Awards on
Monday at Parliament House in Sydney to see 2 of our students,
Laura D and Angel Z receive their awards. The awards were pre-
sented by Rob Stokes the Minister for Education and Gabi Hollows
the founder of the Fred Hollows Foundation.
Intention to apply for Year 7 entry to a selective
high school in 2020
Selective high schools cater for high achieving academically gifted
students who may otherwise be without sufficient classmates at
their own academic and social level. These schools help gifted and
talented students to learn by grouping them with other gifted and
talented students, teaching them in specialised ways and
providing educational materials at the appropriate level.
Applications for selective high school placement are considered
mainly on the basis of the Selective High School Placement Test
results and school assessment scores. The Selective High School
2
Placement Test will be held on Thursday 14 March 2019.
If you would like to have your child considered for Year 7
selective high school entry in 2020, you need to apply on the
internet using a valid email address (not the student’s email
address).
Detailed instructions on how to apply online will be available
from mid-September 2018 at https:// education.nsw.gov.au/
public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-
classes/year-7. The application website opens at that link on
9 October 2018 and closes on 12 November 2018. You must
apply before the closing date.
There are no paper application forms. If you do not have
internet access, you could apply at a public library. If you
have a disability that prevents you from using a computer,
you can contact the Unit for assistance after 9 October 2018.
Crazy Hair Day Our SRC will be holding a Crazy Hair Day tomorrow, Friday
26th October, in support of one of our students, Rebecca T
who is having her hair cut off to make a wig for people having
cancer treatment. Rebecca has a
number of people in her family
suffering cancer. All money raised
will go to the Cancer Council.
We are very proud of Rebecca for
taking on this initiative. If you
wish to donate to Rebecca you
can find the link on our Facebook
page or Webpage. You can also
donate at school.
Mrs Abbott has decided to also have her hair cut and the SRC
are selling tickets for students to cut her hair. All money will
go to Rebecca’s fund.
New Kindergarten Students for 2019 We had our 2nd orientation yesterday. Students had a great
time doing activities in the kinder rooms with the teachers
and parents had an information session and a tour of the
school.
If you know of any families that may have a child that is
starting school next year could they please come into the
school office and put their name down so that they can
receive all the information directly. We will then, during Term
4, run 4 transition days for students and their parents. This is
a great opportunity for our students to get a wonderful start
to their schooling journey.
Please contact the school if you require any additional
information or just need to ask a question.
Tell Them From Me Survey It is important to us to have your opinions for our future
planning.
We invite all our parents to participate in our 2018 TELL THEM
FROM ME survey.
The Tell Them From Me Parent Survey is anonymous, voluntary,
and easy-to-use. It is based on a comprehensive questionnaire
covering parents’ perceptions of their child’s experiences at
school.
The survey results are an important part of our evaluation and
planning for 2019. This is an opportunity for everyone to have
their say . Survey closes tomorrow, Friday 26th October.
Social Media
Social media can provide an enjoyable way to socialise online
and connect you with what is going on in your school
community. Please keep in mind at all times that this school
belongs to your students and your community. I want it to have
a great reputation and I hope that you do too. If you have a
problem please speak to us directly. Please phone and make an
appointment with your child's teacher or Stage Leader (Assistant
Principal) first. If you need to, you can speak to me. Please do
not put things about our school (or P&C) on social media. It is
unlikely to solve your problem and creates a negative image for
the school your child attends. As a parent and carer, you are
your child’s first role model when it comes to online behaviour.
Make sure your online conduct demonstrates how they can use
social media respectfully and safely. We are focused on students
learning and kids come 1st, 2nd and 3rd for us and we make
decisions in the best interest of all. If something happens at
school that you do not find satisfactory we want to know about
it directly and hopefully do something about it. We want you to
feel happy and positive about the school so your child in turn
feels happy and can learn well. Please don’t air problems on
social media without speaking to us. When the school and
parents work together and communication is strong, they can
better support students' learning both in the classroom and at
home.
Our Code of Conduct, Gwandalan Public School Facebook page
is attached on the following page.
Kind Regards

Gardening Group NEWS!
Last term Gwandalan Gardening group entered the school vegetable garden
into the Wyong District Garden Competition. We all worked hard to get the
garden looking its best. At the end of the term the judges came to judge
our garden.
In the first week of the holidays four of our enthusiastic students attended the
awards ceremony at the Council Chambers in Wyong. Our garden won second prize
in our division. We were awarded a trophy, a $25 gift voucher from Charmhaven
Garden Centre and a $50 gift voucher from Coastal Sand and Soil. Great work to all
of those involved with the garden. You should be very pleased that all your effort
has paid off. A special thank you to those parents and students who took time out
of their holidays to represent our school at the ceremony.

OUR EXCURSION TO
BLACKBUTT RESERVE
By KS
On the 19th of September
Kindergarten went to Blackbutt
Reserve on an excursion. First we got
on the bus. When we got there we
had fruit break and recess. We saw
two wombats called Sally and Clyde .
Then we got to pat a blue tongued
lizard and an Olive Python. After the
reptiles we went and looked at some
birds and the koalas asleep in the
trees. We saw tadpoles in the water
and emus, wallabies and kangaroos
in a big paddock. There was a
peacock that had its feathers all
spread out. After our walk around
the emus and kangaroos we went
and had lunch. Then we got to play
on the grass and the playground.
After that we got on the bus and
went back to school. We all had a
great day but we were tired.

SCHOOL UNIFORM
School uniforms promote a sense of belonging for students and create a positive identity for the school community.
School uniforms also contribute to the personal safety of students by allowing easier recognition of students inside the
school and in the community. Schools expect students to wear the uniform during school hours, while travelling to and
from school, and when engaged in school activities out of school hours.
At Gwandalan Public School we encourage our students to take pride in their appearance and to wear the ap-
proved uniform.
To order via our online Uniform Shop: www.gtschool.com.au
