Exploring Barcelona ArchitectureA photographic Study of Architecture in Barcelona
I visited Barcelona in October and was fascinated by the varying style of Arhitecture in the City.
I was particulaly impressed by the work of Gaudi and his sculptural style and story-telling design solutions.
Through the study of the formwork combined with my passion for photography, I captured these Images using a high grain original Nikon film camera.

Project B- Bristols Twisting Torso Harbourside Stroke Rehabilitation CentreRetaining the theme of the world stroke organisation logo, a new site was defined on Bristol’s harbourside with a significantly smaller footprint than the original health centre. This was more of a vertical design challenge. Through the process of investigating surrounding architecture and how to build in the city, Bristols twisting torso is the answer to inner-city stroke rehabilitation.

Structural Loading Paths
The Structural integrity of the Twisting Torso was a key problem throughout the dif-ferent stages of Design.
This was resolved through the use of transferable loads. By using steel beams that span across the formwork above and below each “block”, the weight of the structure can be transferred down the steel frame, yet disguised by the timber infills and cladding.
The timber represents the natural form of the body, and the Concrete skin and Steel frame represents the alterations that have had to be made in order to provide stability, such as would be seen in a stroke patient.
