Dear Parents and Community Members:

We are pleased to present you with the Annual Education Report

(AER) which provides key information on the 2018-19 educational

progress for Frankenmuth High School. The AER addresses the

complex reporting information required by federal and state laws.

The school’s report contains information about student assessment,

accountability, and teacher quality. If you have any questions about

the AER, please contact the FHS Main Office for assistance.

The AER is available for you to review electronically by visiting the

following web site http://bit.ly/2RR82h5, or you may review a copy

in the main office at your child’s school.

For the 2018-19 school year, schools may have been identified with

a label as required in the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). A

Targeted Support and Improvement (TSI) school is one that has at

least one underperforming student subgroup; TSI was the only

label required/given this year. Some schools are not identified with

a label, so in these cases, no label is given. Frankenmuth High

School did not receive a label.

State law requires that we also report additional information. On

the following pages, you will find information about our programs

and opportunities, our school’s enrollment, School Improvement

Plan, Curriculum, Achievement Results, and more.

Frankenmuth High School accepts School of Choice applicants as announced

annually. Applications are due during the appropriate timeframes for acceptance.

Special program applications and course registrations are provided by our Guidance

Office during the course-requesting period each spring.

In 2017-18 and 18-19, Frankenmuth High School continued its accreditation cycle with North Central Accreditation as part of the Frankenmuth School Districts “Systems” accreditation, and based on our most recent visit and reporting, we are

accredited by NCA, receiving commendations focused on the high levels of student achievement, positive school climate that supports the educational process, and a

shared mission among all stakeholders. We will focus our continued growth on continued use of research-based best practices to meet the High School Content Expectations as laid forth by the Michigan Merit Curriculum and in setting up

strategies to offer support for all students. Our specific areas of focus include efforts to increase performance and minimize the achievement gap in reading,

writing, and mathematics/critical thinking. All of our school improvement goals and strategies are in the “monitoring” phase of the process with annual revisions to improve results.

Frankenmuth High School is a traditional high school with EXTRAORDINARY

opportunities. We continue to strive to provide a place for all learners by offering numerous educational alternatives for Frankenmuth High School students through

our partnerships with the Bay Arenac Career Center, Saginaw Career Complex, Tuscola Technology Center, Millet Learning Center, the Saginaw ISD Post-Secondary Program, Saginaw Valley State University, Early College, and Delta

College. We also provide opportunity for post-secondary credit earning through dual enrollment and Advanced Placement courses. Through these partnerships and

programs, we are able to offer post-secondary credit earning and certification opportunities for our students. In the 2017-18 school year, 12 FHS students took advantage of the dual enrollment option earning a combined total of 95 college

credits, and 41 students participated in programs at the Bay Arenac Career Center, Frankenmuth Insurance Academy (through Tuscola Tech Center) or the Saginaw

Career Complex as part of their school day. In 2018-19, 13 students enrolled in 126 credits for dual enrollment, 8 students participated in Great Lakes Bay Early College, and 55 students participated in career center programs. Our students’ AP

credits earned through the national exams totaled the equivalent of 540 undergraduate credits at Michigan State University. (More information on the

Advanced Placement program is below).

Our core curriculum is aligned with the Michigan Merit Curriculum, and information

about the state’s requirements for graduation can be found by visiting www.Michigan.gov/mde. We continue to focus on alignment to the Common Core

Standards and College Readiness Benchmarks. Our Program of Study listing our course offerings can be found on the Guidance Office page of the FHS website. www.fmuthschools.com.

Frankenmuth High School students continue to perform extremely well consistently on the required, standardized tests given. In 2017-18, the average SAT score for Frankenmuth High School juniors tested in Spring 2018 was 1119, landing FHS in

the top 50 high schools in the state for SAT performance. The Spring 2019 composite average was 1125. In both school years, students’ scores on the MStep

were the highest in the county and higher than the state average scores in every subject area. In 2017-18, there were 134 students enrolled in AP courses (9 offered

on site in English Language and Composition, English Literature and Composition, German, Physics, Spanish, Statistics, US Government, World History, and US History, and online in other subject areas) during the school year. Of those

students enrolled, 126 students opted to take 169 national AP exams, scoring well in all subjects offered, with 137 passing scores (3 or better) earned out of the AP

tests taken (81% pass rate). In 2018-19, 116 AP students took 188 exams, earning passing scores on 156 of them (83% pass rate). Additional information on state assessments and graduation rates can be found at www.mischooldata.org.

The continued support of the FHS students by their parents is truly admired and

appreciated. In the fall of 2018, 201 parents attended the high school’s open house

opportunity to meet with FHS teachers, counselors, and administrators on the

evening of the second day of school; this number represented 154 students (28%).

In 2017, 157 parents represented 127 students (24%) at that event. In October,

the school held its annual Parent/Teacher conferences, and 58% of the school’s

families attended this event (compared with 59% the prior year).

Frankenmuth High School has consistently earned national recognition from sources

such as Newsweek, The Washington Post, and US News & World Report. In 2018,

USNews rated FHS #7 in the state of Michigan, #455 in the US, and #124 in STEM

(Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) in the US. So far in 2019, FHS has

earned recognition from Newsweek as the #114 STEM high school in the country

and #2 in Michigan.

Without the tremendous efforts of the students, the support of their families, the

dedication of our staff, and the combined focus on educational excellence from all

stakeholders, Frankenmuth High School could not be as consistently successful as it

is and has been. We are truly grateful and appreciative for the opportunity to

continue to work together with you to provide opportunities for academic success

for all.

Respectfully,

JoLynn Clark
