1979-1980Assistant Administrator of Materials ManagementReported to the Administrator of Materials Management. Directly responsible for the functions of the hospital’s in-house laundry, duplicating services, hospital messenger services, hospital mailroom and U.S. Postal Service contract station. Responsible for carrying out special projects assigned by the Administrator. These included reviewing specifications for supplies, designing materials handling and inventory control procedures, developing and preparing statistical graphs and charts illustrating productivity, monitoring departmental budgets, and preparing reports on departmental activities to administration. Served as a labor relations coordinator for the department, in a highly unionized environment. Responsible for all personnel actions. Coordinated and conducted training in the use of hospital-wide materials handling systems.
1977-1979Assistant Administrator, Clinical Services, Maternal & Child Services Hospital CenterAdministratively responsible for four Special Care patient departments within the Hospital Center. These patient care departments comprised the Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital. Worked within the structure of a multi-disciplinary management team, along with the Nurse Manager, and the Physician Medical Director (University of Miami School of Medicine Faculty Department Chair). Responsibilities included interviewing, selecting, training, staffing, and supervising non-clinical personnel, analyzing monthly budget reports, coordinating capital equipment purchases, solving problems with ancillary services, planning and controlling inventory of capital equipment and medical supplies, and serving as administrative liaison for physicians, nurses, patients, family, and visitors.

NOTABLE CAREER ACCOMPLISHMENTS Designed and consolidated supply chain functions for the newly merged Baptist Health South Florida.
Consolidated four purchasing offices into a corporately managed centralized procurement function. Instituted a continuous replenishment supply chain process including elements of Just-In-Time ordering, Stockless Purchasing and self-distribution. Designed and instituted a nationally recognized activity based medical surgical supply distribution agreement which was he first of its kind for Baptist Health and for the Distributor. Designed and implemented Baptist Health’s inter-entity distribution system. Managed a highly compliant GPO contracting strategy, while maintaining a high level of independent self-contracting activity.
Instituted a method for improving inventory turnover rates by computer-assisted analysis of desired days of inventory for high-dollar usage items and the application of Just in Time (JIT) techniques. Implemented EDI purchasing. Implemented an automated par level replenishment system for remote locations; the first of its kind that interfaced to a procurement system. Implemented an electronic requisitioning system for remote computer ordering.
Pioneered the use direct computer-to-computer links for electronic transmission of purchase orders without manual intervention, in 1988.
