When Frandor opened in 1955, downtown

Lansing had always been the place to shop.

However, people caught on quickly to the

idea and convenience of Frandor Mall. It was

one of the first retail destinations outside of a

downtown setting in the Midwest.

Through the years Frandor has undergone many

modifications to keep up with the changing

retail trends. Frandor became an enclosed

mall in the 1970’s and was ‘de-malled’ into an

open-air center in the late 1990’s. The Center

continues to thrive after 60+ years of business

due to its strategic Lansing location. Located

at the junctions of US-127 and Saginaw

Highway, within walking distance of Michigan

State University, Frandor continues to be a

convenient retail destination for residents and

students. Today Frandor is home to Kroger, World

Market, HomeGoods, Petco, Party City,

and Guitar Center. It is one of few Centers

to successfully support both JoAnn and

Michael’s. In addition, TJ Maxx and Kirkland’s

joined the strong line up. Retail and food uses

do extremely well at Frandor. Panera Bread has

expanded three times and World Market is one

of only five stores in the state. Frandor offers

its patrons convenience and ease of access

while its retailers benefit from the consistent

traffic flow as a result of its central location in

Lansing.
