About Young Indians

Young Indians (Yi) is an integral part of the Confederation of

Indian Industry (CII), Indias premier business association,

formed in the year 2002, with an objective of creating a platform

for young Indians to realise the dream of a developed nation. Yi

has over 1300 direct members in 24 city chapters. Yi has 160

members in 3 corporate chapters and engages another 12,000

members through its district chapter, Farmer Nets and Student

Nets. The Yi membership includes young progressive Indians

between the age group of 25 & 40 years. The members comprise

of entrepreneurs, professionals and progressive achievers fromdifferent walks of life. To become the voice of young Indians

globally being the vision of Yi, it provides a platform for young

Indians to participate in and contribute by becoming an integral

part of the Indian growth story.

Yi works effectively for promoting leadership skills for the devel-

opment of its members through the learning programs; the de-

velopment and engagement of students in schools and colleges

through its 85 Student Net platforms which engage more than

5100 students from various educational institutions across India;

and two Farmers Net platform that has enrolled more than 8500

young & progressive farmers from all across the country, provid-

ing them with real time agricultural inputs and know-how.

Yi has successfully conducted campaigns and developed suc-

cessful projects across the focus areas of primary education,

environment, primary healthcare and employability, contributing

positively to its surrounding eco system and the nation. Through

its initiatives like Akshara, Yi has impacted more than 15000

students across 57 centers and has successfully managed

campaigns like the Blackboard Project, providing blackboards

to schools across different cities, reaching out to 1016 schools

nationally and impacting approximately 2,53,000 children. Yi

has been instrumental in skilling & placing 1300 youth under the

aegis of its Yi LABS Employability program. Under the Healthcare

initiative, over 175000 children have been dewormed in addition to

many health awareness programs across the community in differ-

ent cities. Within the sphere of Environment, Yi conducts a Green

I contest, campaigns for tree plantation, solid waste management

projects, involving citizens and school children in the process. Yi

is also in the process of planting one million saplings across the

country through its One Million Tree Project. Yi also celebrates the

National Day of importance like world Health Day , World Environ-

ment Day , Heritage Week, National Youth Day etc.

Yi organises an annual national summit with themes relevant to

India and its youth. The national summits include sessions and in-

teractions with some of the finest and eminent personalities from

various fields, across India and the world. Seven Editions of the Yi

National Summit have been organised to date.

Yi works in partnership with various organisations. These include

the Government, Companies, Civil Society Organizations. On the

international arena, Yi engages with the BMW Foundation to pro-

mote the Indo German Young Leaders Forum for young thought

leaders. Yi has carried international missions to UK, China, Singa-

pore, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Israel & Turkey.

Yi is the founding member of the G20 Young Entrepreneur Alliance.

Yi is also the official representative from India for the G20 Young

Entrepreneur Summit (held annually on the sidelines of the World

Economic Forum). Yi also works with the Aspen India Institute to

conduct leadership development programs. Yi has also worked with

the Planning Commission of India in conducting consultation work-

shops across its chapters for accumulating a youth perspective to

be included in the 12th Five Year Plan.

With eight years of glorious past and decades ahead that prom-

ise nothing short, Yi intends to become a larger movement and

promote the positive attitude of We Can, We Will.

Rasika Wakalkar holds a BA (French) and has done her Masters in MarketingManagement from the Pune University, besides an Advanced Diploma in French

Literature.With a work experience of about 11 years in different areas and capacities, Rasikais currently the Managing Director at Renee Enterprises Pvt Ltd and founded

Punes first and largest multi-designer store, Rudraksh that has put Pune on thecountrys fashion map and has been the launch pad for over 130 indian designers.

She is also a Trustee at The Vishweshwar Education Society that runs undergraduation & post graduation courses of the Mumbai University. In her previous roleas a Trustee with the Pune based Indira Group of Institutes, she was responsible

D Thulasiraj holds a masters degree in business administration specializingin marketing and human resources from the GRD Institute of Management,

Coimbatore, India. He has a Bachelors in Business Management and has done hisschooling from one of the premium schools in Tamil Nadu, South India.

He started his career with the Confederation of Indian Industry in 2002 at its zonal

office at Coimbatore and since then, has played an important role in enhancingthe membership number from 132 corporates to more than 300 as on date; thusmaking Coimbatore the second largest zonal office in the country and the seventh

overall in the country.

Moving away from CII, he was responsible for the functioning of the Young Indians

(Coimbatore Chapter), that has over the years, been termed as a model chapter forthe rest of the country. The membership of Young Indians started with 14 membersin 2007 and has around 200 members as on date with people from various walks

of life. Thulasiraj spearheaded many initiatives during his association with Yi atCoimbatore and organized the first Young Indians Southern Regional Summit in

2006 on the theme India on the Rise, the largest retreat of Yi in the countryin 2007 and numerous learning sessions and missions to organizations of globalexcellence in various cities in India and to Malaysia and Singapore.

He was also involved with Yi at the national level, before moving into CII to head

the Coimbatore Zonal Office as Deputy Director. In this role, he led a team ofdynamic and energetic youngsters to make it a very vibrant zone in the country. Hisinterventions have led to major conferences, cluster models, workshops, seminars,round tables and talk shows that have benefited the industry in many ways. He was
