*HYMN OF PRAISE NO. 142 “Sing Praise to the Father” +++ DISTRIBUTION OF SECOND GRADE BIBLES Darlene Maginley CALL TO CONFESSION PRAYER OF CONFESSION (in unison)

O Holy One, who wondrously calls us into being, we admit before you and to those around us, that at times it all seems too hard. We see little fruit for our labors, receive no thanks for our honest en-deavors, or are made to feel embarrassed when we express our faith and gifts. Forgive us, not just for a lack of belief in you but for a lack of belief in who we are. Forgive us for negative conclusions and false humilities that mute your call for creative love and justice. Self-giving God, restore in us the strength of Christ and the deep presence of the Holy Spirit. (silence for personal confession)

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (in unison) Affirmation of Unity (in unison)

We share one faith, have one calling, are of one soul and one mind; have one God and Father, are filled with one Spirit, are baptized with one baptism, eat of one bread and drink of one cup, confess one Name, are obedient to one Lord, work for one cause, and share one hope. Together we come to know the height and the breadth and the depth of the love of Christ; are built up to the stature of Christ, to the new humanity; know and bear one another’s burdens, thereby fulfilling the law of Christ that we need one another and build up one another, admonishing and comforting one another; that we suffer with one another for the sake of righteousness. Together we pray; together we serve God in this world.

Praise & Thanksgiving

Congratulations to Steve & Sandy Marulis, who welcomed their fourth grandchild, Cameron James Marulis, on Friday, October 19th. I’d like to offer my thanks to the Presbyterian Women and the Deacons for their kindness in remembering me and sending me cards. It means so much to me to be remembered by my church, even as I’m no longer active. It is all very much appreciated. With thanks,

This month FPCP and Faith Communities Coalition are asking for prayers for child welfare professionals that support children in foster care. Please...

Pray for the safety and emotional well-being of social workers in our community as they come face to face with difficult decisions.

Pray that churches in our community would commit to care for and to support child welfare professionals.

Pray that social workers and administrators would fight discouragement and burnout by continuously seeking and finding joy, hope, and peace in Christ.

News & Announcements Dear Friends, First, let me say how honored I feel to have been able to share in the ministry of FPCP with you, and how much I appreciate your kindness, support, and friendship. As you know, there have been many changes in my personal life during the time I’ve been with you all at Plymouth. Since my contract is up November 30th, several churches having known this, initiated contact with me. Because of this I’m respectfully requesting that my Interim contract not be renewed at FPCP. I’ve spent a lot of time in prayer and discernment over this decision. I know God has an amazing plan for FPCP. With Christ’s Love and mine, Anne

Stewardship 2019 – Faith, Hope, and Love: Causes for Giving

We all enjoy supporting causes dear to our hearts. In the swirl of global causes and needs, we have an opportunity to be the hands of Christ in our world through this church. First Presbyterian Church of Plymouth provides many ways to support meaningful causes by expressing faith, hope, and love. As we approach this year’s Consecration Sunday, we are focusing on different causes for stewardship. This week, we celebrate the cause for faith. By now, you have likely received your stewardship package in the mail. We ask you to prayerfully consider how you may want to support our church’s many causes and programs. On Sunday, November 18, our congregation will join together to make 2019 financial commitments to the church’s ministry and mission by completing Estimate of Giving Cards and submitting them as an act of worship. This act is vol-untary and completely confidential. Please plan to join with the church family for brunch after both services on that day (10:30 and noon). Thank you for your support and for participating in a cause for celebration!

Doug Heasley, Orlean Heidel, Jack Farrow, Tina Creguer Stewardship Committee

GEFF PHILLIPS We welcome Geff Phillips as our new Upper Room Worship Leader. He is no stranger to First Presbyterian of Plymouth as he has served as a substitute in the Upper Room on numerous occasions. Geff studied music and business at the University of Michigan (Dearborn). He sings and plays a variety of instruments. Although this is his first time as an “on-staff” worship leader, Geff grew up in the church and over the years has served as musician/vocalist at Bass Lake Family Camp, Christus Victor Lutheran (Dearborn Heights), Northridge (Saline Campus), Alpha Baptist (Livonia) and Life Church Canton and Livonia. Married for over 30 years to Nancy Phillips, Geff lives just a few blocks from First Presbyterian, where he and his wife have raised their three adult children. Geff’s Philosophy on Worship Leading and Music “My goal as a Worship Leader is to inspire others to let their emotional guard down to sing and join in the praise of God. I have played music my entire life because it allows for spiritual and emotional connection. I find it fulfilling to share music and humor to engage and inspire people to sing. I hope my musical versatility and faith will help the message of Christ to be heard by the people of First Presbyterian and throughout the world.”

Deacons

Mission @FPCP

It’s Time to Clean Out Your Closets…

As you begin to go through your winter clothes, here’s an easy way to get rid of those items you no longer wear, are out of style or just don’t fit right anymore. During the Months of October and November, the Deacons are collecting clothing for the Open Door Mission at Fort Street Presbyterian Church. There are an estimated 20,000 homeless individuals in Detroit. The Open Door serves many of these men and women by providing food and clothing. As the winter months approach, warm clothing is in short supply. All donations of winter items are helpful, however there is a particular need for the following items:

Men’s Clothing (pant size 32 and up)

Mittens, Gloves, Knit Hats

Thermal (long johns) bottoms – size large

Socks\Tube Socks – cotton or wool

Also needed, but not as critically, are shoes and boots. Any other winter clothing donations welcome (please do not donate summer items at this time).

The need is great. So, please consider cleaning out that closet and helping someone less fortunate. You can even shop inexpensively for items to donate at the Salvation Army, Goodwill Stores and even our own Presbyterian Thrift Shop.

Donations may be deposited in the collection area in the basement across from the High School Room during the month of November. If you have any questions, please contact Kim Pierson at [email protected] or at 734-354-6673. Thank you!

Calling All Early Risers!

Join members of the Local Mission Committee on Tuesday, November 13 as we prepare and serve

breakfast for the homeless at First United Methodist Church of Plymouth. Plan on meeting at FUMC at

6:00 a.m. This is one hour later than previous years we have served this ministry. We should be

finished with serving and clean up no later than 8:30 a.m. Sign-up sheet is on the Mission bulletin board.

Grab a cup of coffee and join us!

Presbyterian Women Offer Discussion of

Strength In What Remains by Tracy Kidder Monday, November 26, 2018 at 7:00 p.m.

Copies are available on Amazon for under $15. Purchase your copy now to give yourself time to read through by Nov. 26.

In Strength In What Remains, Tracy Kidder gives us the story of one man’s inspiring American Journey and of the ordinary people who helped him, providing brilliant testament to the power of second chances. Deo arrives in the United States from Burundi in search of a new life. Having survived a civil war and genocide, he lands at JFK airport with two hundred dollars, no English, and no contacts. He ekes out a precarious existence until he meets the strangers who will change his life, pointing him eventually in the direction of Columbia University, medical school, and a life devoted to healing. Kidder breaks new ground in telling this unforgettable story as he travels back over a turbulent life and shows us what it means to be fully human. This is the second book discussion offered by Presbyterian Women for 2018-2019 in a series, “Their Stories”. All are welcome to the discussion at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel on November 26.
