SEXTING AND CYBERBULLYING – Free Workshop For Parents: If you are a parent with school age children, then you need to know about sexting and cyberbullying. Unfortunately, this is a growing trend. In response, Nick Keisel (Director of Safety and Security for Reynoldsburg Schools) has created a program to educate parents and youth in his district. It is his goal that through education and understanding, our youth will begin making better and more responsible decisions with technology. On Thursday, May 11, he will be at St. Pius X to discuss social media, cell phone use, the dangers of sexting and cyberbullying, and the Ohio laws that prohibit such behavior. St. Pius X and Seton parishioners are encouraged to attend his presentation at 7:00 p.m. in the St. Pius X gym. This is valuable information that you do not want to miss. He will be presenting a workshop for St. Pius X elementary students (6th grade and up) on Monday, May 15th.

FOR ALL WIDOW AND WIDOWERS: We are starting a new support group for widows and widowers called: For I Shall See You Again (John 16:22). The first meeting will be held Thursday, May 25th at 6:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria with Sister Rosemary Loomis from Egan Ryan’s grief counseling services as our guest speaker. We would like to personally invite all those who have lost a spouse to attend and become a member of our group. Please contact sister Maxine at 614-866-1575 or [email protected] with any questions.

A ROSARY SALE will be held on May 20th/21st at St. Pius X after all Masses. The Cord Rosaries are handmade and will be available in a variety of colors. These beautiful rosaries are lightweight and don’t tangle. They are easy to carry in your pocket or purse; perfect for children or adults. May is the month of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and the perfect time to purchase a new rosary for only $5.00. All proceeds will go to Joseph’s Coat.

THE MONTH OF MAY IS DEDICATED TO OUR LADY: K of C Council 5253

will be leading the parish in praying the Rosary after each and every Saturday, 5:00 p.m. Mass in May. If you attend Saturday evening Mass in May, please stay afterwards and help the Knights

pray the Rosary to our Blessed Mother. Join us in seeking Our Lady’s intercession

for our Country, parish and our families. Mary, Mother of God, pray for us!

SOCIAL EVENT (FOR ALL PARISHIONERS) TRAM RIDE AND NATURE TOUR: K of C Council 5253 has scheduled and coordinated a free event on Friday, May 12 at 11:00 a.m. A free tram ride and nature tour of Blacklick Metro Park – all invited, all encouraged to attend! Park and meet at the Ash Grove Picnic Area of the metro park at 10:45 a.m. The tram ride and tour begins promptly at 11:00 a.m. The tram ride and nature tour lasts approximately 45-minutes. Dress appropriately for the weather. Hope to see you there!

HELP BEAUTIFY THE PARISH GROUNDS: Please come out to help K of C Council 5253 as we spread mulch around the St. Pius X Parish grounds on Saturday, May 20 at 8:00 a.m. Meet in the church parking lot. Depending on how many volunteers come, we should be completed around 10:00 a.m.-ish. Wear work gloves and dress to get a bit dirty (we are spreading mulch you know!). Please bring shovels, rakes and wheelbarrows to help with the task. Everyone is invited to help – we will have signed/dated volunteer forms for school kids looking for “volunteer hours.” Many hands make light (and quick) work.

CAPITAL CAMPAIGN UPDATE$2,876,621 Current Pledge Totals – Increase over last month – $21,641$1,077,774 Current Cash in hand – Increase over last month – $76,416Msgr. Funk and the Capital Campaign Committee would like to thank all the volunteers and staff that helped move all items from the Latchkey and Youth Ministry Building the past two weeks. We continue to receive additional pledges for the Capital Campaign. Remember, it is never too late to make a pledge or increase your current pledge total. Thank you to all that have made pledges and have been maintaining these pledges. We also want to thank all of you that may not be able to pledge at this time but are praying for the Success of our “Continuing To Renew All Things In Christ” Capital Campaign. We are truly grateful for these prayers.

“Living the Gospel in Faith, Hope & Charity.” This weekend begins the 2017 Bishop’s Annual Appeal. As this year’s Appeal theme reminds us, we are “Living the Gospel in Faith, Hope, and Charity” as members of His church on earth. We have been asked, as a parish, to realize a goal of $144,179.14, which will contribute to the diocesan goal of $6.5 million. Your gifts help to support the many programs and ministries directed by our diocese such as the Catholic education of our children, adult ministry programs, marriage preparation, the education and support of our future priests and deacons, and so many more programs that often benefit the good people of our own parish. Please prayerfully consider a gift to the Appeal, knowing that no gift is too small. Any amount that is given over our goal will be refunded to our parish to be used for our particular needs.

FOURTH SUNDAY OF EASTER MAY 7, 2017

THANK YOU FROM THE WOMEN’S K OF C: The Knights of Columbus Women’s Club would like to thank the ladies of the parish who attended their Cards and Game Night event. With your generous donations of handbags, the club collected 185 purses. These handbags have been donated to Joseph’s Coat, Dress for Success, Lead’s Community Action Agency, Goodwill, and the Salvation Army. Thank you again for your support of the K of C Women’s Club.

THE NATIONAL CATHOLIC YOUTH CONFERENCE will be held this fall in Indianapolis, and once again St. Pius has several teen leaders of today’s young church that are interested in attending. In order to earn money to help cover costs associated with the trip, charity events have been set up from now through November. We are working with Marco’s pizza to set up a recurring fund raiser the first Tuesday of every month, beginning in May. All you have to do is mention SPX Youth Group when ordering from either the Reynoldsburg OR Pickerington location, and our group will receive 15% of the sale. Order online and we will receive 20% – just make sure you find SPX under the “fundraising tab” on their website. (Marcos.com). Please consider helping us out, and plan on Marco’s pizza for lunch and/or dinner the first Tuesday of every month! Additionally, stay tuned for details regarding an exciting “Paint Night” fund raiser to be held the evening of June 9th in the SPX Cafeteria!

SAINT OF THE DAY FOR MAY 13

The Story of Our Lady of FatimaBetween May 13 and October 13, 1917, three Portuguese children received apparitions of Our Lady at Cova da Iria, near Fatima, a city 110 miles north of Lisbon. Mary asked the children to pray the Rosary for world peace, for the end of World War I, for sinners and for the conversion of Russia. The third visionary, Lucia dos Santos, became a Carmelite nun and died in 2005 at the age of 97.Mary gave the children three secrets. Since Francisco died in 1919 and Jacinta the following year, Lucia revealed the first secret in 1927, concerning devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The second secret was a vision of hell.Pope John Paul II directed the Holy See’s Secretary of State to reveal the third secret in 2000; it spoke of a “bishop in white” who was shot by a group of soldiers who fired bullets

and arrows into him. Many people linked this to the assassination attempt against Saint John Paul II in St. Peter’s Square on May 13, 1981. The feast of Our Lady of Fatima was approved by the local bishop in 1930; it was added to the Church’s worldwide calendar in 2002.Reflection: The message of Fatima is simple: Pray. Unfortunately, some people – not Sister Lucia – have distorted these revelations, making them into an apocalyptic event for which they are now the only reliable interpreters. They have, for example, claimed that Mary’s request that the world be consecrated to her has been ignored. Sister Lucia agreed that Pope John Paul II’s public consecration in St. Peter’s Square on March 25, 1984, fulfilled Mary’s request. The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith prepared a June 26, 2000 document explaining the “third secret.”Mary is perfectly honored when people generously imitate her response “Let it be done to me as you say” (Luke 1:38). Mary can never be seen as a rival to Jesus or to the Church’s teaching authority, as exercised by the college of bishops united with the bishop of Rome.
