Father Olivero and The staff wish you a blessed Christmas.

The Parish Office will be closed on Wednesday, Dec. 24 and will reopen on Monday, Dec.29

FROM RESURRECTION PARISH Dear Father Michael, Resurrection parish family in faith would like to thank you for your generous donations of food and clothing that your parishioners have collected to help the needy. We also received your sharing collection check for Thanksgiving of $727.00. It’s a great help to the par-ish up keeping especially in the cold weather. We would like to give thanks to the parish staff that helped in setting this winter drive. God Bless. Sincerely, Father Paul Kalchik Pastor

ECHOING MARY’S DECISION The angel Gabriel today confronts Mary with a mys-tery. The mystery of salvation in Christ is not a mystery that is solved, but a reality beyond our comprehension that we must choose to enter into. In the liturgy of the Eastern Church, everyone waits to see if Mary will enter into the mystery: God waits, Adam and Eve and all the souls of the dead who long for paradise wait, angels wait for new heavenly companions. And there is much rejoic-ing when her decision is “yes.” We have less dramatic choices offered to us, but the mystery of our salvation in Christ is by no means “solved.” We may understand it a bit better due to Mary’s “yes.” We may be a bit closer to it through the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. But it still remains a mystery to which we all must give our own “yes.” Soon we will be singing “O come, let us adore him.” May our Advent prayer, our echo of Mary’s “yes,” continue then, so we may enter into the mystery of our salvation in Jesus Christ, God among us. Dear Lord, Please bring them

all home safely. Let us remember and pray for those who are always in our hearts. If you have loved ones who are currently serving in the Armed Forces, please call the rectory at 847-437-6208 and we will add their names to our bulletin list. When your loved one has returned home, please let us know so we can remove their name from the list. Thank you.

Imagine how Mary felt at birth of Jesus: excited, awed, frightened. Deep faith was her light in the darkness, for Jesus was born during the night of the year when darkness is the longest. In faith is found the real, lasting, and deep joy of Christmas. This month, through your gifts, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul was able to bring Christmas to the hearts of the poor. Thanks! St Vincent de Paul is an emergency source for food and short-term financial help for parishioners and those living within the parish boundaries. Please call 847-437-6208. Requests will be handled with care and confidentiality.

HUMAN CONCERNS COMMISSION

MY BROTHER’S KEEPER MINISTRY Seniors do you need a ride to the doctor or grocery store? Please, give us at least 3 days notice. This is a free service to all our senior parish-ioners. WE ARE NOT ABLE TO DRIVE FOR SURGERY OR IF ANESTHISIA IS INVOLVED CALL LINDA AT 847-439-5372 NEW DRIVERS—ALWAYS WELCOME If you are able to drive once a month, we can use you. You let us know the time and day of week you are available and that will be the only time you will be called. Because of illness, va-cations and just plain life, we have had a shortage of drivers. Your help is really appreciated.

If you are making progress in your grief and you are beginning to have some good days, don’t be upset because the holidays set you back a little. That’s normal. If you are in the early weeks and months of grief, believe that every future holiday season won’t necessarily be as bad as this year. Go through the holidays in ways that help you best to get through them. Don’t listen to the non-bereaved and all their “expert” advice. They’re advising you to behave in ways that makes them comfortable. Ignore them. Do what works for you and your family. Remember: Cry when you need to and laugh when you can. Ministry of Bereavement
