My dear family of St. Andrew the Apostle!
A Catholic school, like a parish, is a privileged place to learn how to be a disciple of Jesus, and then how to live that call. So I begin with a SHOUT-OUT to all Catholic schools, especially ST. ANDREW THE APOSTLE CATHOLIC SCHOOL!!!! GO CRUSADERS!!!!! What is said about a parish or a school is said because they are an extension of family — they are a “family” of families. Our parish family is a privileged place of many generous people! Our recent Christmas Giving Tree was a beautiful testimony again of the generosity of our parish family of St. Andrew’s. Below is a most powerful witness of this amazing place I have been privileged to pastor and call home now for almost 12 years. Below is a THANK YOU LETTER from one of the beneficiaries of our CHRISTMAS GIVING TREE. It truly warms my heart!
In the loving Hearts of Jesus and Mary, Fr. Gregor
Center for Correctional Concerns —Will County Adult Detention Facility, Joliet, IL
Fr. Gregor, January 15, 2018
On behalf of our Director, Donna Fedosenko, the staff and volunteers of The Center for Correctional concerns, as well as the inmates and staff of the Will County Adult Detention Facility, I want to thank the entire St. Andrew the Apostle Parish community, for once again this Christmas including us in your Christmas ministry.
Your community’s annual gifts of office supplies, and gift cards are a much appreciated yearly blessing. The Center for Correctional Concerns (CCC) was founded in 1979. We are non-for-profit, non-sectarian social service agency, dependent on grant financing and donations. Our mission is to minister to the inmates of the Will County Jail. We provide inmates with GED classes, alcohol and substance abuse counseling, an AA program, a recreational library, Bibles and Quran’s as requested, chaplaincy, spiritual counseling, Bible studies, sexual assault victim programs, and a variety of social services as well as group and individual counseling. An outreach to stigmatized souls otherwise castoff and forgotten.
Men and women who are out of sight and out of mind. The poor; the addicted the terribly lost for need of sufficient mental health resources, and some have done truly evil things. The ministry of The Center for Correctional Concerns is to heed the call of Saint Francis: “Heal the wounded, bind up those who are bruised and reclaim the sinners.” We are grateful for your ongoing partnership on our work.
St. Andrew’s is undeniably a “Catholic Community” in the truest sense of the words. Deacons Ricardo, Chuy, and Rigo were my classmates and through them we all experienced the welcoming spirit of your parish community. For many years, I also shared hospital ministry with Dcn. Jerry Clark. I can truly say I know St. Andrews as a place of genuine discipleship.
May Our Loving and Gracious Lord continue to bless you in all you do in His Name.
Pax et Bonum,
Dcn. John Shea, Facility Chaplain “For the Lord hears the poor, and does not shun those in Prison” — Psalm 69
My Dear Friends in Christ! You will notice something different in this month’s packet of offering envelopes. After careful comparison, we have chosen a new offering envelope program with Our Sunday Visitor of Huntington, Indiana, at a 12% cost decrease and free postage for 1 year (a $1,500 gift). This name may sound familiar as it is a publisher of many Catholic periodicals, books and pamphlets. This program offers our office a better means of address corrections, new parishioner start-up, and communication with our office computer programs. While you will notice few changes on the envelopes themselves, I hope you will find them more colorful and appreciative of your sacrifice. Please make sure to look through the entire packet each month. There may be some additional enlightening information inserted. Thank you for your continued support of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish! Peace and Joy in the new year to you and your whole family! Fr. Gregor

In the Gospel today we read that because Jesus spoke with authority his reputation spread throughout the surrounding region of Galilee. As his disciples, we can also speak with
authority when we put our faith into actions by helping the poor and the suffering. As you place your gift in the 2nd collection next week for the We Care Food Pantry and the St. Vincent de Paul Society, know that you are a sign of God’s love to those who are suffering, and give them reason to have faith and hope.

Changes to How We Offer Mass Intentions
Due to the ever increasing demand from parishioners to have Masses offered for family and friends, and a limited number of Masses available,
we have decided to make some changes to how we offer Mass Intentions. Bishop Conlon has requested that we no longer schedule Masses more than one year in advance of today’s date. In order to respect the Bishop’s wishes and to accommodate our parishioners requests we will continue to limit the number of Masses a person can offer for a loved one to one Mass per month. Please recall that the 8:45 am Sunday Mass and Noon Polish Mass are the two Masses designated for Collective Mass Intentions. You may include your intention(s) at these Masses if you choose to do so. Please contact Bonnie or Vanessa at the Parish Office.
Some people plan ahead and reserve dates that are meaningful for their family member which is a beautiful way to remember them, but it leaves very few Masses available for people who have recently lost someone and would like to offer a Mass for them. If you would like additional Masses we can have them offered by the retired priests of the Joliet diocese and send the stipend to them. We will not be able to give you a definite date for that Mass, but can provide you with a Mass card stating that a Mass will be offered. On February 5, 2018 we will start reserving Masses for 2019.

Franciscan Father Ed Shea is the third of eight children from St. Giles Parish in Oak Park. A 1974 graduate of Fenwick High School and a 1978 graduate of the University of Notre Dame, Father Shea joined the Franciscans in 1980 and was ordained a priest in 1987. Father Ed has spent most of his priesthood in parish work, including four years as the priest-presider for the St. Giles Family Mass Community in Oak Park, IL and five years as the pastor of St. John the Baptist Catholic
Church in Joliet, IL. He was also pastor of St. Joseph Parish, a predominantly Hispanic community in Chicago’s famous Back of the Yards neighborhood. Father Ed has served on his Provincial Council and as Director of Vocations and Formation for the Franciscans of the Sacred Heart Province. Fr. Ed is currently stationed at St. Peter’s Church in downtown Chicago, since 2011. During the past several years he has done a good deal of itinerant preaching, in the Chicago area and beyond; he has also spent some time living and working in Teutopolis, IL, and he even went on a pilgrimage to Tanzania, Africa! A Franciscan priest who loves to sing and tell stories, more than anything he thrives on celebrating the sacraments of the Church. A true follower of St. Francis, Father Ed finds reasons to rejoice often in the goodness of God’s presence in our world.

Progress towards the new church for our parish family of St. Andrew has been more than just words and wishes.
Here’s a breakdown, all paid for: 2001-2005 — $2.1 million for the new Administration wing with hook-ups to the new church ready for
electricity, heat, and air conditioning the new west parking lot
2006-2008 — $760,000 for the new east parking lot and major underground work on the water lines,
storm and sanitary sewer lines
2009-2018 — quiet but steady fundraising even during and now after the country’s and our parish’s and school’s financial struggles
Foundation for the Future (building fund) as of December 31, 2017 $705,686.27
A total of $3,566,000 has been given by you, our generous parishioners, over the past 17 years, the majority of it spent on real construction already
2017-2018 — Parish Council Interviews of four of the Architects who have permission from our Diocese to design and implement plans for a new church
In 2014, Bishop Conlon visited St. Andrew the Apostle and saw the need for a new church, especially with our “crazy” (my word) weekend Mass schedule!
We are blessed to be at the moment where we stand now.
And God has more blessings in store!

Thank you to all those who have volunteered to work on the 50/50 Raffle. We still need someone to take the lead for the
group. If you feel you would like to take this on, please contact Bonnie or Vanessa at the Parish Office for more information.
With Christmas behind us and the decorations gone, I took a few weeks off to re-energize and reflect on the beauty of our church during the season. All our Liturgical Ministers and Volunteers surely exceeded their usual
excellence! Thank you to our priests and deacons, the Parish Staff, Maintenance Staff, Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist, Lectors, Altar Servers and Ushers. Thank you to all the Music Ministers who gave of their time and talent to Make a Joyful Noise Unto the Lord! Our church was decorated with love and lots of muscle by our Knights of Columbus, the English, Polish, and Spanish communities, our Confirmation Candidates and parents, led by our tireless committee leaders Paul, Karen, Sheri, JoAnne, and Grace. Thank you to our faithful parishioners who came together to celebrate the birth of our Lord!
To anyone I missed, thank you! I wish you all a blessed and joy-filled 2018!

Please call the parish office by Monday at (815) 886-4165 x301 for the name of your loved one to be placed for 3 weeks on our short term prayer list. Also, please call the parish office, if you are hospitalized and would like a visit from our hospital ministry team or homebound and in need of communion.
Hospital Visitation of Parishioners Please remember that if you or any family members find yourselves in a hospital, be sure to let them know you are a parishioner at St. Andrew’s. Whenever we priests, deacons or Eucharistic Ministers come to visit, we check the hospital list of parishioners printed under “St. Andrew.” But if you’re not listed as a parishioner of St. Andrew, we won’t know you’re even there! We do not want to miss you! You can always call us at the office, (815) 886-4165 ext. 301. Thank you. May the Lord Jesus be with you all your days, to love and be loved by Him, to honor and serve Him, as He honors and serves us!
A COMMUNITY OF WORD AND SACRAMENT SACRAMENTS OF INITIATION
CATECHUMENATE The Catechumenate is a community which gathers those adults who have not been baptized, and seek deeper insight into the Christian faith.
BAPTISM OF CHILDREN
We joyfully celebrate the baptism of children of Christian households which are joined to our weekly worship, and have active registration in our parish community for at least 3 months. After registration in the parish, please attend an Evening of Awareness, if you have not attended a class in the past two years, to register for Baptism and select a date. Classes are presented on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall. Baptism is celebrated on the third Sunday of the month at 1:30 p.m.
EUCHARIST AND CONFIRMATION
Formation for those coming first to the table of the Lord as children is infused into the efforts of our school and Faith Formation Office. Confirmation formation is a two year process completed in eighth grade. Please call the Faith Formation Office for more information.
SACRAMENTS OF COMMITMENT
MARRIAGE
Marriage preparation is a six month process of prayer, reflection and study. Couples work with both the presider and a sponsor couple through this process. Please note that this six month period of preparation is essential.
